Also my last reply to you Sir Stiven...

This is the biggest nonsense I've ever heard, if you consider a team playing boring despite scores/good coaches/... but just because the are from Belgium, than that is by all definitions a prejudice!  And never based on facts...

You are not lucky Snogard, because my answer to your question is France AND I’m French. But it’s based on facts and not (only) patriotism. There are some points I need to talk about to convince you :

- France loose rarely in important competition and especially versus good teams. The last defeats were against “weak” Nations.
- France possess now a hate of the defeat (look at Lizarazu or Thuram) and they never give up. Remember the final of Europe Cup.
- France have a dream team and a ****ing bench. I think personally that wee have the best team in terms of players, and we have stars who know and want to play together.
- The team is very balanced : good in defence, midfield and attack. The tactic works well (I don’t say it is the best…), we have technicians and strong players.
- The players are confident : they win every competitions since 98 (WC, Europe Cup, and the little friendly tournaments)

I won’t tell you about every player (except when you want it) I think you know all of them and their qualities.

In France we think that our most dangerous opponent is Argentina, and maybe Brazil or Italy.

All the same, some things are bad : Robert Pires is out, the manager Roger Lemerre is good but not fantastic and we are perhaps too much confident. We’re French hey !!!

To Snogard : It should be nice if Japan were on 2nd round. Who do you think can beat France and why ?

LOL u still dont understand. I have nothing against belgians, im only against the way they play football. Belgium isnt the only team i dislike to see, Take Liverpool for example...great individual players, some of the best in their positions in the whole premiership BUT i still think they play the most boring football in it..Leicester is also a good "boring" candidate.

I think Sweden will win WC , our kind of play makes it easy for us to play teams that is used to have lots of ball possession so in that way we got the perfect group. To me the first game vs England is the key game, Argentina will most likely go to next round and there for our game with england will decide who will join them. I dont think Nigeria has the defence to make it, the team that loses points to them will prolly have it tough to advance too.

That France is conciderd favourites isnt a big suprise, last big tournaments they have had an excellent defence and a very good midfield but been lacking up front (Anyone remembers Guivarch in WC´98?) but now they got two of the most in form players in the world (Henry&Trezeguet) so their attack shouldnt be a problem. Pires absence is a great loss since his outstanding form in premiership and the fact that he has been the "brain" behind Arsenals good play this year.

/Stefan

Edit: One thing i really cant understand about the France team tho is that they seem not to include Laurent Robert in it. To me he should be the replacement for Pires or atleast be in the squad since he is a very good player.

Stiven's gonna hate me for this but.. I think Sweeden are far too amature to be a truely competitive team.  The are good, but not that good.

Although I am not an England fan, I think the may have a chance if they realise that Gary Neville is not the only left back (should be 'left back' in the changing room- lol! ) in the UK- Le Saux is on brilliant form at the moment and surely must get a chance?

Also, I am annoyed at the Italian predjudice about not selecting Italians who play abroad for the world cup.  Serie A is not the only league in the world- I find it hard to believe that there are three (active) Italian goal keepers who are better than Cudiccini.

To Sir Stiven : Lolo

During the Confederation’s Cup (where France beats Brazil 1-0 for the second time like Norway), Laurent Robert was one of the players that Roger Lemerre tried. I remember he scored one goal but did’nt make a great performance in the all tournament (he didn’t play a lot). Before going to Newcastle, he was the best scorer of Paris-Saint-Germain : 15 goals for a very offensive midfield. He was very appreciated by french people (I just adorate him), and for me, if the WC had been in 2001 he was in.

He makes a good season in Newcastle, but scores less than in Paris. He has also a bad reputation (3 or 4 red cards last season with PSG) which doesn’t help him for the national team.

Personnaly, I think he MUST go to WC because he is the only TRUE left midfield with Robert Pires (and the ugly Dugarry). He has his chance : all depends on the Newcastle’s end of season.

Lemerre tried another tactic against scottish. He puts a kind of 4-2-3-1 with (from left to right) Petit-Vieira as mid-defence, Wiltord-Zidane-Henry as mid-offensive and Trezeguoal as central scorer. I think it’s a good tactic because Laurent Robert could subsitute with Wiltord, but there is Christophe Dugarry too and Lemerre likes him (I don’t know why...)

Well Cat, we will just have to see about that "amateur team" wont we?

But i dont think Le Saux has anything to do with a english squad to WC. Ashley Cole, Wayne Bridge are both much better and 3 left defenders seems like a waste of space. Who cares about left defenders anyway if u put Kieron Dyer on the left wing? Then all you need is a striker up front who can score on all the chances he will get, thats all he has to bother about because Kieron will handle the rest of the field

England

i don't think England is going anywhere. First of all they have a very tough group. Second of all they are too cocky. And most importantly they don't have a briliant golakeeper. They have good ones but there is no Canizares or Buffon oreven Dudek on thier team.

Sweeden may do something if they can get their game together they may actualy win a game

Danco, since you obviously dont know much about football i thought i fill you in with some: Seaman might be old but his still a great goalie so is Nigel Martyn.

So if sweden could get there game together huh? you check up how many non friendly games they have lost the 2-3 years and how many goals they have let in. Then tell me which team thats going to put "their game together". If you try to make a point, please atleast make one with alittle facts in it. That way people might respect what you write about.

#1. Seaman may be good but he isn't great. He's too old now. Nigel Martyn is a very good goalie and i accept that , but still he doesn't match people like Canozares and Buffon. I mean that England hasn't got a star goalie. Martyn is good but he'll have problems matching other Star goalies.

About Sweeden. What i mean about getting their game together is to preform better on the highest stage of international competition! Look 4 years back. They didn't even qualify for the World Cup. Two years back they got knocked out in the Euro in their group. Sweeden has stars but lately they haven't been able to do good on major internation events!

P.S.: In some thread u emtioned that u played footbal actively. Ummm #1 What possition u play? and #2 do u play pro, amateur or 18 and below teams?

Seaman isn't the goalkeeper he once was... and I've never rated Martyn...

Also the england squad is to 'Beckham centric'- if Beckham is injured/ banned I think it is unlikely that England will perform.

Argentina, however, have Batistuta- well worth watching- he's dangerous!

About keepers its just personal opinions, and even if some goalies like you mentioned Buffon might be a better shot stopper than Seaman it doesnt have to make him a better keeper, Seaman with his experience leads his defenders in a much better way than Buffon does and therefor he usually get easier balls to collect. About Canizaries..his crap, there are better spanish keepers than that in my opinion.

Well if you bring up 98 why not bring up 94 while your at it? And if you dont remember/know what happend then ill fill you in: Sweden finished 3rd after demolishing Bulgaria with 4-0 in the game about 3rd place. Once again, if you are going to make a point that Sweden hasnt performed on major events lately please back it up with facts first. Its embarrasing to have to fill you in with all the facts all the time.

/Stefan

Oh and to answer your questions, Im a striker and im a amateur player (i play in div6 in sweden but i really think we will win promotion, we have a good team coming up).

World cup 94

That was a good team but it was a WHOLE DIFFERENT team. Ther was another generation of players playing for the Swedes. Concider that. The generation that is playing now last preformed in 2000 on the Euro cup which to me was a big dissapaointment. U have to concider that in 94 absolutely different players were staring then in 2000!!! If u want to look at the past i could go on about teams in the world cup,  but we are lookign at the present squad of players not the ones before!!!

LOL well we have many new players from the squad that failed to make WC 98 too but you brought that up. I bet we could go on like this forever, you say something w/o facts and then i correct it and you try to make yourself not to look too silly and start talking against yourself. Sorry Danco but this is my last words in this debate, i prefer talking with someone that i can have fun talking with. Not to correct all the time.

You don't have to, I'm convinced.  I know the French would have got a "dream team", and I think they are doing just as well as the previous w-cup.  I'm really not surprise if they win the cup again.  It's just that I still hope that Portugal will win, for a change.

I think any team CAN beat France ... ... only that most of them are not likely.  Personally, also as you've mentioned, Argentina and Brazil (mainly Argentina) may be a threat.  I'm not very familiar with the Argentina team, but from some of the matches (qualifying rounds) they played and the results they have achieved, it seems like they are real good this time, awesome scoring power and quite a well balanced team.  As for Italy, I really can't say much.  Seen a few matches of theirs, and I think they are not as good as France or Argentina.  Moreover, France would not be meeting them till Final (if France make it to the Final), and there is a possibility that they may be eliminated before that.  Can you tell me more about the French players that maybe playing in the w-cup?

The Japanese has improved quite a lot since the previous w-cup, and I too hope to see them go further.

To Sir_Stiven:

I don't know a thing about the Swedish team, but I do hope they can proceed to the 2nd round, preferably with England (I just hope England doesn't disappoint me again as like in Euro-cup).  However, I really can't say that if Sweden will the cup, if the team is the same as that playing the Euro-cup 2 years ago...

I understand what you mean when you want some « change ». Sometimes it nervs me too when the almighty teams always win. You want some surprises, me too !!! For example, it should be “nice” (for the public, not for me...) if France would be beaten one time in the first 3 matchs, but not after.

However it could be better if the surprises happen to the other big teams.

Quote : Can you tell me more about the French players that maybe playing in the w-cup?

Yeaaah, for sure !

The team often plays 4-4-2, but sometimes 4-5-1 because of the lack of good strikers ( J I’m kidding) .

The goalkeeper is Barthez. Ramé (Bordeaux) is the second. And there are 3 men fighting for the third place : Landreau (Nantes), Létizi (Paris-SG) and Coupet (Lyon).

The defence will be (from left to right) Lizarazu-Leboeuf-Desailly-Thuram and the substitute are Vincent Candela (AS Roma), Michaël Silvestre (Manchester), Philippe Christanval (Barcelona), Willy Sagnol (Bayern München) and Christian Karembeu (Olympiakos). No surprises here.

The midfield would be Dugarry-Petit-Vieira-Zidane. But here there can be some changes, and all the substitutes are not yet known. I think they will be : Eric Carrière (Lyon), Micoud (Parma), Boghossian (Parma),... I forgot the others. Perhaps Laurent Robert (Newcastle).

In the attack we have : Henry, Trezeguet. Substitutes are : Wiltord, Djorkaeff, Marlet.

I’m sure I forgot someone but I don’t know who...? This team may actually change a little bit before WC.

Talk me about the manager of Japan. Is he really a god in your countrie ? I saw you have beaten Poland 2-0. Great result !!! congratulations !

Snogard, i wouldnt say we have the same team as we had then. We do have some new additions but whats even more important is that the players has gotten more time to play with each other now. After our success in WC´94 our coach Tommy Svensson kept most of the team for the 98 qualifyers. Which i guess we all can agree on now wasnt the best of ideas and when we failed to qualify Svensson resigned.

New coaches became "Lars-Tommy" which only had a team with a few promising players but mostly some old ones. So their first assignment was to let some new players get brought in the EC qualifyers squad but still keep some of the old ones so the team doesnt get totally new. And as everyone that knows football know so did we great in that qualifyers. But just before EC we got some serious injuries on some very important players (Henrik Larsson&Stefan Schwarz etc) and as i said, most of the team from WC 94 had retired so there got a serious lack of experience in EC. And since no one took that little extra responibility out there our game got like "lets send only long balls for Kenneth Andersson" which in my opinion should have retired from international football when the others did.

But the difference from then is that now most of the "new players then" got that major tournament experience and our team has almost been the same in all qualifying games so the team knows each other.

But to me it doesnt matter who wins really, just to see all those really fun football games is a reward. To bad the tournament only lasts for a month

/Stefan

Oh and when i read that robin hood post it just struck me what a depth the french has in their squad i could even add some names on that list that u havent mentioned on players that i think is great.
