Trouble starting up HoMM IV on Win7
I recently bought Heroes of Might and Magic IV Complete from gog.com and whenever I try to start up the game it tells me tells me Runtime Error, gives my the location of the exe file and says abnormal program termination. I've tried launching the game in every imaginable mode of compatibility mode but to no avail. Here are my specs in case it helps..
Windows 7 64 bit
Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz
8 GB ram
ATI Radeon HD 4350
I also have the tried installing it from the disk with the same outcome but different exe file location listed.
I've got every Heroes game on my comp but 4 and it was always one of my favs, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time it means alot.

I read couple of posts about problems with Homm4 and Win7. In my case, I don't have problems running the game on Win7 x64, though my version is not from GoG. You can try using this fixed exe files from here that are used for equilibris instalation, it may help but no guarantees (I have those files). The only safe solutiom IMO is to install any free virtul machine, run windows xp on it and install Homm4 on that system.

Some stuff to try that might help:
1. installing the game into a specific folder other than program files or other special windows folders ... something like C:\Games\Heroes-IV\ or D drive should be best.
2. Running the exe file as administrator.
3. Modifying the exe file to run in compatibility mode with winXP
4. Check if you have some of the basic software for running applications like: directx 9, c++ redist (runtime for c++ applications, you can get 2008, 2010, 2012), net framework 3.5 ... I think that normal heroes IV doesn't require some of these stuff but I am not sure about complete that is why I propose installing them.
I think that solution 1 can help you most because you probably have tried 2 and 3 and you may have overlooked such option, windows doesn't allow all programs to modify files in program files or program files x86 folder that is why its best for games and other applications that existed before windows vista and 7 to be installed in other directories.

Unfortunately still prompted with the same error message, even tried going over all my steps again with the new game installed in D drive.

I don't know how much of a google research you did on this issue so I tried to do some fast ones.
On this place

do not bother following the links to reg cleaners and antimalware tools as you can get better for free. but the advice and information are good.
Maybe you should check his link as I did for information, from the rest of the search off of google I get the idea that it most likely is a registry error.
My questions for you are
1. have you installed other versions of Heroes IV earlier on that system?
2. has any heroes IV installation been interrupted in the process of installing (for example the computer restarted or you had to cancel it while the installation was going on)
3. have you had problems with other games or applications on your operating system? (it may be possible that some other app has made a problem into your registry or temporary files)
4. Some earlier games had problems with the latest NVIDIA game ready drivers so it may also be your case if you updated the Ati drivers in the near past
5. When you bought the game you got it via online download or was it sent to you on DVD? It's almost impossible but some files on the disc may be damaged from scratches or similar damage
You may or may not know about CCleaner, its a very lightweight temporary files and registry cleaner and you can edit the stuff it will or wont clean. If you don't like such software than you may try disk cleanup from windows to clean temporary files. (p.s. with CCleaner if you do registry clean do it 2-3 times or more until the number of issues becomes nearly or even 0)

I bought the game online through gog.com so disk cant be the root of the problem, I actually use CCleaner quite a bit and keep on getting 0 registry issues detected. I probably had the game installed earlier and from an old disk put deleted it a while ago. The installation process is smooth and I dont get this kind of error from any other game :/

Ok, one final solution I might suggest is uninstalling Heroes IV and manually deleting it's registry values (I believe you can find them), and reinstalling again (not into program files of course).
And if that doesn't work you can try to go to ubisoft website and seek support either on forums or through their "contact us" or "about us" mail ... you have paid for a game and you should get proper support, I think that there is no reason why this game shouldn't work on windows 7 64bit. I don't remember them pointing out that you can only play it on 32 bit systems, and I've seen it run on 64 bit windows, both complete and normal version.
