Big changes for 2019.

Hmm... Still not hyped

Though I like the narative that will go through all three expansions. I think it will bring the game more to a whole.

What I do like about these changes are how hyped everyone else are!

I suppose we should expect some reveals soon. Most people point out into Dalaran direction. I wonder if this narration that will be shared between all three expansions is lore-related or something they came up with. When looking how they created this whole "Hearthstone" lore (yeah, the Pixar-like animation) it might be the latter...

I'm semi-hyped (lol, is this a thing even?). I always like new stuff in Hearthstone, but the game is very low on my tier list atm, so guess, whatever...

EDIT: Welp, there's a teaser https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lfuiF14jeE&feature=youtu.be. Old Gods vibe. Are you ready emil?

EDIT 2: Do you guys think a Scry like mechanic would shake the game? Discover is named one of the best if not the best mechanic in the game (yet it's only partly controllable). So a MtG mechanic that let's you see beforehand, for example, the first two cards that will be drawn next from your deck, and shuffle them however you like would certainly add depth into the game and lessen the RNG element. I think it would be something really healthy and fresh for the game.

I've just spent around 9k dust for golden cards which are going to the hall of fame
P.S.
From my side the best thing for the new expansion will be upcoming  rotation - especially Knights of the Frozen Throne .. too op

I'm wondering if I should switch my Genn and Baku to gold versions. I'll keep them in golden plus bonus 800 dust. I have around 6400 dust atm.

@blob2 If you don't need this dust and you want to keep these golden version of cards so why not. In another way you will be in both way  +2000 dust.
I don't have this problem because I'll disenchanting all of them.

I created golden version of these cards which I didn't posses so it was all epics and almost all rares x2 (we will receive full dust only for each card up to the maximum number that can be used in a deck)

e.g
created golden epic which I don't have: -1600 dust ,  get back in Year of Dragon +1600 dust , disenchanting +400 dust = so I'll be +400 dust

Okay.. So is it Darkmoon faire?
It is not Dalaran as we all thought.
Old Gods I read a lot of places as well, but really? Will they recycle an old theme?
I do believe it is Darkmoon, yet I did never like the Darkmoon And I have a hard time seeing it connecting to the rest of the clues.

Scry?! What a great keyword. I wonder..

But as you mentioned, Blob, semi-hype - I feel this hypefeeling as well, but I always do around reveal season. But as soon as the game hits is wears off. Sigh.

Let's see what they have in store for us.

Regiskillbin supposedly spilled out the name of the x-pack by mistake on his stream (you can Google it if you want spoilers). Was he trolling or not, hard to say. There was this Hearthstone summit to which some of the popular streamers went to so he might know something...

EDIT: No matter, it was probably bs.

Damn I watched the Trumps video on rotating cards. And gotta say I will miss all those expansions. Well, I'm more of a Wild player and those cards aren't going anywhere, but with each rotation older cards naturally make room for new ones in playrates.

I think year of the Mammoth was THE BEST and WORST Hearthstone ever came up with. Full of cool flavor (Dinos, Elementals, Quests, Heroes), with a lot of cards I love to play (and probably most of us do). But also the powerlevel was off the charts. Single cards won you games. It also created the best netdeck I've ever played: Cube Warlock (because you could literally play every matchup with it and it simply worked). Oh, also pre Totem nerf Even Shaman takes the second place (if not first) in terms of versatility. But imo many cards were simply designed how I like it: playable in many decks, so the craft value was worth it. I loved Un'Goro, for me it's the best xpac that ever was, but KotFT was also pretty cool in the design apartment.

I really hope Year of the Dragon will deliver, it's namesake requires it!

It took me exactly 1 minute to look up to the Hearthstone champion ladder where I've seen Bunnyhoppor being in the highest spot of all the Champion candidates. I didn't even know the guy

Well, while I don't buy packs from Rastakhan anymore after reseting the pity timer by getting Griftah (sigh), I got additional 7 packs from events + 2 from Arena event. Got 5 Epics in them, three of which I didn't have before. So I can't exactly compalin :')

Teasers suggest the next expansion will have something to do with unique Hearthstone characters, faces of the last three expansions: Toggwaggle, Haghata and Doom. I'm not that excited, I hope it will be interesting at least...

EDIT: Another leak, Dalaran pretty much confirmed. It seems people were pretty spot on with this. I guess it will be something with the "Ocean's Eleven" vibe. So "get the (villain) gang together and orchestrate a heist of the ages" kinda thing.

Kalcegos!

Expansion seems ok I guess?

So what do you guys think about Rise of Shadows? I'll be blunt, I'm not as hyped for a new Hearthstone xpac like I would be just a couple of months ago. For now my reception is lukewarm at most.

The theme - guess it was kinda easy to guess: a heist. The only deviation from this concept seems to be that it's like a superhero flick: villains against the good guys. + Dalaran finally, which had it coming since way back.

Mechanics:
Schemes - I don't know. Appears strong, but only if you'll get it in opening hand/early. But we know how Hearthstone works. I assume there will be a 'Scheme' tutor. Still, I wonder if we'll ever get an "Enchantment" type of card: card which stays on board (but outside of normal board rules like Nether Portal), adding an effect.
Twinspell - Echo 2.0. Depends on how good the spells will be, but those will probably be expensive to counter their strong double effect.
Lackeys - nothing new, but the concept of "adding new ones over time" is interesting

Cards?
Kalecgos - stronk, but expensive, depends on meta. But a safe craft I guess.
Rafaam - cards that change your decks into Legendaries are playable, plus he has good stats. Boring effect though.
Chef Nomi - a card which effect will be probably played 1% of the time.
The 3/4 one is playable, but its tech aspect came a bit too late (Baku & Genn are getting HoFamed). Btw is being hit by Rouges Dagger counted as "Hero power" effect? Lackeys are playable.

Honestly, I felt like this was the worst Hearthstone trailer in at least 2 years. Not catchy enough.

Schemes might be interesting, depending on what they can do.

We already have one kinda Twinspell in the game - Extra Arms (Only kinda because it changes the name of the card). I think it worked well.

Lackeys are nice. They seem fairly powerful without being crazy. And the fact that they will build on what they start here is generally something I like.

All in all, I'm not excited yet, but maybe as more cards get revealed I will be.

No. Hero power only adds the dagger. After that it's just a weapon.

So basically the only Hero Powers it protects against are Mages Fireball, Hunters Arrow and Priest Heal? Plus all the alternative ones. Hmm, maybe they will be adding some new HP this xpac?

It's not a new effect. The kobold monk did the same as long as he was on board. Protects against spells and minion abilities more than against HP, I guess.

1. Kalecgos is a fantastic card. I love it.
2. The new Hagatha legendary is freaking brutal.. I do believe it to be meta-defining.
3. What an uncreative expansion so far It is basically just a bunch of old ideas, old characters and maybe we will see some polishing on some of the old mechanics..

I've been mulling over the combo possibilities of Togwaggle's scheme and I think there is real potential there. For example, Hooktusk might be viable if she draw a lot of good pirates. Maybe a lot of Southsea Captains?

A lot of things I thought about can't be done in standard because of the upcoming rotation and I'm considering going wild just to try the following "combo": kobold illusionist that will pull deathwing -> myra's unstable element -> scheme on deathwing = everyone turn I hit for 12 and clear the board.

An interesting & unique mechanic for sure. But it all depends on RNG plus Shaman has a lot of trash spells.

Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, that is Heartshtone's ongoing issue. They only partly mitigate it with production values and occasional fresh idea. Sad truth is that since they introduced Discover, they didn't create a mechanic that would be on par with it. You can see how good it fares by how often it is used in following expansions...

I'm a irritated with the fact they didn't post a card reveal schedule. I always like that bit of hype that comes from it. Here's hoping they will post it shortly.

Yes! Give us that reveal schedule.. It is a big part of the hype.
They actually have not given us a great mechanic since discover. Have they?
It just annoys me that we get to see Rafaam, Hagatha etc. again since they are just reprinting characters. Oh and that fortune teller was she really a villain? To me she was just a storyteller..

I feel like this is a bit unfair, because you say "mechanic", but you seem to mean "keyword".
Quests were a new mechanic and some of them survived until their rotation.
Hero cards were a new mechanic and they changed a lot and are still being printed here and there (although it is confirmed that there will be no new heroes in Rise of Shadows).
Even stuff like elemental chains, while not tournament worthy, helped create a whole new type of fun and good decks.

Yes sorry, I meant "keyword". Hero cards, Quests, Legendary Spells or Odd&Even were all interesting new mechanics (how they were implemented for good or worse is a different matter). I was thinking mechanic while having a different card game in mind and meant impactful, keyword effects that change how the game is played. "Kickback" (pay more for bigger effect) would be hard to implement in H, but a "summon from discard pile", or "enchantment" effect would be big and possible. They are probably holding with all their ideas and release them few at a time. We usually get two keywords + one mechanic each expansion (not accounting unique effects of cards).

Wait, is 'Scheme' a mechanic actually?

emilsn91 said:

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm also not that fond of them. But I think they said it themselves and they should build upon their own lore, it will give the game more substance. Plus we are still getting some lore characters: Kalecgos or Nomi are a good example, and we will probably get a few more Dalaran related NPC's.

PS: I'm probably getting the Hearthstone Artbook. I love artbooks and I came to a conclusion that it's worth my interest as I love the games art: https://www.amazon.com/Art-Hearthstone-Robert-Brooks/dp/1945683058/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=art+of+hearthstone&qid=1552986860&s=gateway&sr=8-1. With all it's good and bad moments, Hearthstone has been a big part of my gaming life Fun fact: the book is the first one in the series, next ones will cover the rotations, with Year of the Kraken being the next entry on the list.
