The thing about arena is that you can't try and make ladder decks. You'll never have enough synergy. Arena has its own rules about what is good. There are guides out there if you want (kripparian is possibly the best arena streamer and he made a short video guide). Generally, what you want is a lot of stat value, some removal and a strong early-mid game to gain control of the board. There is also an add-on that helps you build a strong arena deck. Speaking of add-ons, you should get a deck tracker, it really helps.

When I play Arena I usually try to build a deck based on some of the classic rules, for instance those Geny mentions. But unfortunately the power level of some cards nowadays is so big that if opponents manage to hold the early to mid-game, you're practically screwed if you don't have similiary strong late game cards.
Oh, Hogger? That reminds me, I'm yet to try him in a deck as I got him not so long ago. I always wanted the guy back in the day, but with the powerlevel of current cards he kinda got obsolete (removing a 4/4 is easy as a pie).

Yea, just got one. Doing Knights of the Frozen Throne now, got to blood queen. Not that easy to beat the encounters, but I managed so far. Got Malfurion as my first DK, is that random or does Malfurion drop first for everyone? Because Druid has to be my least favorite class out of all, so maybe I was a bit unlucky.

I also got Valeera, but I remember I did make use of her at that time. Malfurion was pretty strong also. It's interesting how the meta changes over time. Ultimately DK Rexxar was probably the most hated DK of them all, probably sharing the podium with Gul'dan and Jaina. Ofc there was also machine gun Priest which was "nerfed" by changing Raza's effect.

I managed to beat the Lich King with Inner Fire shenanigans. It felt great when the stars aligned. Knights of the Frozen Throne did resemble actual encounters from World of Warcraft to a small extent, played the hell out of WotLK some years back. The music and atmosphere and that deep LK voice were somewhat nostalgic. The rewards though felt a bit underwhelming. What, a DK and 3 packs?
Thinking about Kobolds now. Maybe the thing is to get through with all these solo adventures and squeeze those extra cards before going on ladder. I'm probably going to do that, and have some arena and quest completion in between.

Still better then a simple card back. Beating it on Heroic grants you Arthas hero portrait at least, but it's pretty challenging if I remember.
I still think the traditional adventure model is the best: pre-defined cards for each wing. Beating it on Heroic should give you a bit more then a cardback though...
PS: Dataminers suggest we will get 12 (all from RoS?) packs for completing a quest chain. That would be the biggest amount yet.

I wanted card packs, not card backs. Seems it's not a good expansion for that. Was expecting something like Knights of the Frozen throne rewards, but not even that! Need to revise my strategy.
Just consulted the wiki and there's no way to get cards from the solo adventures other than Knights. That's a bummer.

That's why the old adventure model is nice imo: fun single-player expierience, guaranteed cards (many meta-defining even, as examples have shown) and honest business model (well, maybe the wings should be a bit cheaper, but there is still an option to get them f2p). The only downside is that there is less variety in the meta...

Yeah, Solo Adventures are mostly for fun. This years they will include packs, but they will also cost money/gold so it won't be profitable if you're just in it for the cards.
If you can get at least 3 wins in arena on average than that's probably the most cost efficient way to get packs. But only from the latest expansion.

It turns out Arena is not profitable anymore. I played it yesterday because of the Arena ticket reset trick. The power level of opponent decks is ridiculous, imo to get to 12 wins you either need to be super lucky or a veteran player. Or both. Not to mention "going infinite".

Depends on how much you play. Last two times I tried, I got 5 and 6 wins. Which is not considered infinite, but since I only do one run a day it technically is (with the daily quest). And anyway it's better gold value than just buying packs.

Too bad arena is disabled now for some reason. I had some time to kill and couldn't do any. Got more streaks on ladder though, now rank 37. I lost one game since I started playing against a King Crush Hunter. It was glorious. But won all the rest. I guess the quality of decks at low ranks is as bad as it gets.

Arena will reopen tonight, when the new expansion hits. It will significantly change the pool of cards available for arena.

I faced two value decks. Left it at 2-0 to get the additional ticket. Well, my deck wasn't exactly great (Warrior), but at least it had a curve and overall value. Faced:
- a Rouge with Assasinate, Walk the plank, value minions (like Giant Wasp). Had literally an answer for each of my cards and built a steady board. Heck, even a Dragonslayer for my Twilight Drake (I know it's probably for countering Warrior, but who the f* picks this card?)
- Hunter with a lot of value minions and Beast synergies. Oh and ofc he somehow got Mythril Spellstone from Arcane Dynamo which was overkill cus he even had Weapons to upgrade it...
I'm not even mad...
But yeah, I played some time ago with the free Arena ticket, and also went 5-6, as a played it two more times with similar effect to remove the dreaded 5 gold from my gold pile...

I see. Then the major upside is that the pack rewards change for the new ones as well. This expansion's power level seems to be a lot better than Rastakhan's.
Oh, Nozdormu my second legendary! Also golden rare Injured Blademaster. These classic packs as I advance on the ladder are coming in quite handy.
EDIT: Currently 20-0 with a Mage deck on ladder. Rank 26. Highlight of the day was when I faced a Hunter that played DK Rexxar and King Crush and I still beat him. It was amazing.
Eh... I couldn't leave this page so I opened the chest. Was that bad? I thought it gave better rewards at the end of the month or something. No idea what happened. But got some really good cards from the packs inside. Mojo Master and Skull of the Manari! I might be able to play a decent Warlock now.
Never mind, my chest is still there. When's the end of the season anyway?
