Big things go out for the new year usually.
This is a good tradition.
To explain, it has been indicated that an update will come out with the Wasteland terrain some time this autumn, with New Years being the even bigger thing of the Factory town. It has also been indicated we'll get more information... well, last month, so some time before the Wasteland update.

Wonder if we get desert next. It's the one terrain still missing from HoMM2, since wastelands will come with Factory.
I miss it myself, since we get "beach terrain" for underground, beach and deserts.

With Sand, Rough, Wasteland and maybe Dirt I think there's enough desert diversity already.
I'd rather have some Tundra stuff fill the gap between Highlands and Snow. And Styx-like underground water terrain.

Sand isn't really a desert terrain per say. Mainly just used to denote beaches. And dirt is dirt, can't really call it a desert.
But a Tundra terrain does sound really nice, along with the Styx-like underground water.
I also kinda want like an autumn like terrain. With the trees being a mix of conifers and deciduous trees that are losing their leaves (red, orange, yellow, and brown leaves). But that is rather low on the list of things I want.

But there is some kind of desert terrain already, isn't there? I mean the one whose combats include a battlefield sprinkled with quicksand hexes (nice touch BTW). There's this map, I think the name is Barren lands though I'm not sure, where you can find some nice desert zones (with the aforementioned sort of battles).

Half of Africa is desert, H3 really needs a Desert themed Town (Bastion Was perfect, but Oasis is very good too) in MM6, 7 and 8 you have a lot of desert Lore, Gorgons, Tritons, Anubises, Genius, etc....
off course main ability is the Desert No movement Penalty (which is like Fortress town with Wasteland)

They are badlands (dirt) and Wastelands themed.
HoMM2 had distinctive desert terrain in addition to sand/dirt which I kinda miss

Haven't HotA Crew stated they wanted to keep sand as a neutral terrain?
I personally think a desert faction, that praises Fire Magic, would be great though.

Well, um, actually... It says sand in-game. Just took this screenshot today. Same map as well.

I am well aware of that thank you. I was speaking in the context of the game. Also sand does not classify a desert. What classifies a desert is a lack of rain over the period of a year. "A place that receives less than 10 inches (25 centimeters) of rain per year is considered a desert." Both the Arctic and Antarctica are also considered deserts. Sand does not make a desert. Lack of precipitation does.

exactly, is like compare bolivian terrain with egypt or arabian terrain.
totally different, people, transport, culture.
H3 introduced Desert Sand terrain, not like coast beach, just like sand desert, even a more frozen ice like terrain can be possible.

Exact, i think that Factory and Stronghold Fits the same terrain but with different culture or time.
that's why i personally dont like Factory too much, is like a Stronghold 1000 years after.
on the opposite side, desert sand terrain (or even ice desert terrain) dont have any Specilist Town (focused in the ability of adaptability to the terrain like Fortress)

So you want a new terrain which is only set apart by tje colour of sand. You realise there is no Bolivia nor Egypt in the M&M universe?

Probably not, at least (you can never be too sure with beings like the Ancients around), though there are clearly Egypt-esque things just on Enroth (as comes to mind at the moment, mummies (they generally look more Egyptian than Incan), Egyptian-style pyramids and Guardians of VARN - though those were Ancient-designed, as was the Egypt-style pyramid of the Tomb of VARN).

who cares? it's just a palette color for some extra visual lucre (and is faithful to HoMM series, since it was in HoMM2). Do you have any argument for NOT adding it other than "it's not necessary" ?

I think 10 towns (including Factory) is enough. With more and more towns starts feeling unfocused.
H1 had only 4 towns and wasn't a bad game. There was a compact feeling to that.
I don't think that H3/HotA urgently needs additions/modifications (as some people here use to paraphrase their whishes) but I think new towns is what it needs the least urgently.
And absolutely least urgently yet another desert town with yellowish sand this time round.
