Yeah Stronghold is a desert town. Rough terrain probably looks like this. Still a desert, even with no sand.

Take a look at the Stronghold town screen then. Lots of tall mountains, cliffs, rocks and harsh terrain and not much vegetation. Their terrain is called rough, so I imagine it would be a place full of stones, rocks and mountains, not sure if that can be considered a desert?
If it is, it's still far away from an Egyptian like desert full of sand, dunes, pyramids, mummies and a burning hot sun.

And Egyptian settlements are to be found at the coast, at river banks, at wells and at oases. The thick of the desert traditionally is only inhabited by nomads, as in H3.

Why the town ? I only wanted some nostalgic desert terrain.
gatecrasher said: H1 had only 4 towns and wasn't a bad game.
Speaking about nostalgia Are you sure about that? Because I replayed HoMM1 some time ago and found it a terrible game. HoMM2 was great, HoMM1 was a really terrible experience.

And they were a welcome addition, since HoMM2 kept HoMM1 cities intact, just adding upgrades for underwhleming creatures.
My problems with HoMM1 were simple : You get a Barbarian and play Warlock town and you win. There's no counter to that and there's no real reason other than self-challenge to play anything else. Warlock had an abundance of fliers, super-easy creeping, and a ludicrously OP, magic immune creatures that would be further boosted by ridiculous Barbarians in times where 1 attack point meant +15% damage increase (and built-in pathfinding for the Barbarian that others wouldn't get).
Also, the cramped battlefields made it simplistic to a point of sillyness. Also, the spellcasting system.. UGH.
HoMM1 wasn't a good game in my opinion. There were similarly unpolished, but better games at that time that offered the same formula, like Hammer of the Gods, which was conceived in a better way, just really poorly executed and not beta-tested at all, released with gamebreaking bugs.

Well it was said.... "Later this month" and that month has already ended twice
Docent_Picolan said: The update with the new terrain will most likely slide from summer to early autumn. However, later this month, an article with new development details will be released, so stay tuned.

I also don't expect "early autumn".

A little more information sure would be nice.

You really haven't grasped the concept of what classifies a desert have you? Lol
But yes, based on the description you just gave of Stronghold's town screen and of the Rough terrain, yes, Stronghold and the Rough terrain can both be considered a desert.
I'm thinking the news will come early October now.

Exactly my point. Sand does not equal a desert. Lack of precipitation does.

Better than some of the discussions I've seen over on the alternatehistory.com forum. One of those ended up being about surströmming...

The attack to homm1 arguments can be used for homm3. (There is no reason to play anything but Necro/Conflux and necromancer/Crag hack) etc etc.
Also the magic system was way better than homm3.

Mm, never played HoMM1 myself, but the idea that you simply 'forget' a spell after you cast it a certain number of times seems a bit nonsensical to me.

Look at it as using vanishing scrolls.

Mm, maybe. Still, for all that they've screwed around with the magic system over the games' run, they've never once tried to go back to it. Some ideas just don't pan out well.
