[RMG][Feature Request] Please make rivers

Hi Gruk, folks,

I get a feedback on my map [1] that generated water is not interesting enough.

Most of map makers create narrow rivers instead of massive bodies of water. This looks like more interesting option.

Can we have narrow streams when the water quantity is set to normal? Maybe with small lakes hosting bigger objects.

Thanks!

This is a map you created using a special template? I will take a look when I finish some in my list right now.

I don't believe that will work. The indentation is quite important to the templates function and the only way I'm finding to get it is copy/paste the text. I bet that will screw it. I have no time to test it right now but...

That's a great job. The more friends acting to find bugs in it, the better the HD mod and other mods will have been developed.

Regarding capron's post i have managed to make it continually work under linux for quite some time now thanks to wine being a formidable software.

if anyone ever sees this and needs any help feel free to contact me lmao

i am a little late on the magic school balancing argument but i'd like to say i feel fire magic is a little underpowered when it comes to fighting (damages a little to low on spells and doesn't scale as well as other school's offensive options) and it also has very few map spells so it somewhat feels like a double disadvantage.

Many of its offensive spells are also either very situational or mediocre or both;

Take Frenzy for example and compare it to bloodlust, a level 1 fire magic spell. With expert skill level, bloodlust costs way less, affects all your units instead of one and in some cases (for low def creatures) give a better bonus to certain stacks.

Fire Shield is good on paper, but compared to other options falls short.

Slayer is very good, very situationally. It's useless against certain factions altogether.

I have found no real use for land mind even against the computer, and fire wall is only good against the AI making an obvious flaw.

and misfortune is trash lol

And the list goes on.

Yet my three favorite spells are Blind Fireball and Berserk. lol.

Fixing Inferno could work. Two things, first Xyron cannot cast it on first day (compared to Solmyr's chain lightning) and last i recall it wasn't registering well on certains stacks.

And reducing the MP cost would help. I agree fireball should cost more than frost ring per say, but maybe not 33% more (from 9 to 12 at expert) and definitively not the same as meteor shower at expert (while meteor shower does 100 + 25p vs 60+10p for fireball)

I'd like dmg spells to scale better into late game. Also, maybe AoE buffs and debuffs shouldn't be global, but have reach like in HoMM V.

Hi.

i'm about to start my journey with HoMMIII. I've only played about 500 hours in HoMM5 ,40 hours H6 and 10 hours in H7. My question is. Does Horn addon changes anything with base game? I mean complete edition without fan addons. Or is it pure new content for campaign? Should i play Homm3 complete first or start right away with this and hd mod ?

You can't play the vanilla campaigns with HotA as far as I know so play through those first if you're interested in them. Otherwise, just skip to HotA.

It is possible to put the H3 Complete campaigns in the "Maps" folder and play them as Custom Campaigns, but the intro cutseens and some interfaces will not work.

PD: Please, HotA Crew. Add the original campaigns to HotA. It would be great!

I can't see any reason of adding them to HotA main screen. We can always play them with Heroes3 Complete + HD mod features. Custom maps are... custom. When original creators made them, they didn't have hota graphics so in those campaigns we won't have possiblity to play Cove or use hota new banks or atrifacts.
Besides, HotA changes some mechanics. For example - they nerfed Logistics. But in some maps we have time limit. Are you sure it's reachable with weaker Logistics? They'll plan to rework some magic and spells. I don't think it won't affect playability of original campaigns. So HotA devs must do rework campaigns with every patch. But reworking means not to play ORIGINAL campaigns.

So, adding standard campaigns wouldn't be great if you think wider a while. The best option is still playing them under h3+hd mod combination.

And some other bugs appear, like missing crucial artifacts to win scenario or missing heroes from one map to another or many less or worse bugs as we can read in other topics.

I have seen some talk from HOTA folk of at some point bringing the original campaigns back in, altered to work with HOTA. I'd call that a good thing, except it also came with ideas of making them harder on the apparent belief that everyone playing HOTA is already a veteran HOMM3 player... which, as this discussion hints at, isn't a reliable assumption (HOTA, honestly, is too ensconced as a 'third expansion' as something that can get recommended to new players as kind of a default).

I don't know if it would be worth adapting the original campaigns to HoTA, but I think that it would be interesting to replace the portraits of the heroes of the Armageddon's Blade campaign and the elemental heroes of Conflux for others more consistent with the original hand-drawn style, because, in my opinion, the 3D portraits look pretty ugly. I mean, look at some of them:

Maybe it sounds stupid, but sometimes I avoid playing certain heroes because of their bad-looking portraits. A good portrait could make a lot of them more attractive to play.

I think also that some of the hero portraits of Stronghold or Fortress need an improvement too (many are a copy and paste of others), but I believe that Conflux and Armageddon's heroes need more the revision.

Some example of copy-pastes on Stronghold and Fortress:

I've no problem with the 3D portraits, tbh. If possible, the NWC guys might have made them all 3D portraits, just like in Might and Magic, but since we're talking about year 1999, it wasn't worth the effort. And even then, as you mentioned, they just copy-pasted some portraits for non-human characters, since it wasn't worth making another face for another goblin.

Also, are you sure all of them are fully 3D? Some can be hybrids based on the 3D shape (like the Magma Elemental).

Original campaigns ARE coming to HotA. This has long been in our plans. Obviously, we have a lot on our hands at the moment, but this will happen at some point. Naturally, they will be adapted to feature all new mechanics and account for balance tweaks.
