@Hourglass AI ignorering units with Magic Mirror I'm not even sure you can call a bug, it's just AI choosing to ignore units with Magic Mirror, so in a way that is also a form of protection.

A bug that happens all the time, is that AI can attack creatures on water using Water Walk/Fly.
Sometimes it's also possible for AI and occasionally even human players to end their turn in water.

Yeah the game crashes very rarely for me too at the moment and that is great.

How was TP nerfed in HotA?, I don't see it.
DD yes, if you play with Tournament Rules.
Still you feel very forced to always pick Earth and Air Magic, leaving little room for Fire and Water.

for sorcery to be a viable skill it should increase simply your powerstat, so it's usefull on most spells.

and given that 50% extra damage to one element orbs are not thought after, I would say have it 25%/50%/100% increase of the powerstat (before artifacts).

maybe the numbers are still not quite right.

so a mage with sorcery as secondary skill can summon like 200 earthelementals at level 20.

a sorcery specialist like 300

that would give mages a point to play

maybe make sorcery a counter to inteference

The value of the scrolls is increased. All control scrolls have their values set to 20,000, whereas in SoD they belong to their respective magic tiers: TP and water walk are worth 4,000 and DD + Fly 5000. It other words, DD scroll in SoD has the same value as a simple minor artifact, and you can easily beat the guard during your first turn with your starting army.

That is not nerfing effect of the spells, but only increasing the value of their spell scrolls.

I never play with spell scrolls anyway. Perhaps if it was possible to place random level X scrolls in the map editor, I would...

If you're thinking such thing doesn't effect the overall outcome, then, well, you're just simply wrong. Affecting availability is one way of nerfing things. By that logic, changing any creature's cost, it's build path, it's dwelling cost and/or it's growth wouldn't change how well the actual creature performs.

It's not DRM, just blocking plugins to prevent cheating in MP through plugins (which was easy to do). Also, have you seen the threads here about modifying HotA? And c'mon, if you want plugin-like changes, you can edit those files in the .lod directly, although it's more cumbersome. I agree that the lack of plugins is annoying, but HotA team's strong point isn't programming afaIk, so they managed the situation how they could.

Edit: I think you meant the .exe file mainly though. Again, that's to prevent cheating too, but I've seen guys who reverted the changes through hex-editing.

Hmm, I'm not surprised, especially when you recall that at some point their project leaked and was circulating around the internet, which I heard they weren't very happy with. I think it's a matter of how personally you treat a piece of your work.

It's their work and their rules. They don't take pay for it, which is understandable due to potential copyright problems, but I respect that it's their "code" and they are free to decide how it should be handled.

This has already been tested and debunked in the modding threads. No one can modify any aspect of the game that HotA touched, because HotA has a binary blob DLL (that they don't tell anyone the workings of, of course, so you can't modify anything) that runs after the .exe and overwrites your own changes. I have personally tested and confirmed this myself. You can modify non-HotA versions of the game, but the thread for "modifying HotA" is a bit of a misnomer, it's mostly people modifying SoD or changing things that HotA didn't already modify (because that's all you can change in HotA). It would be more appropriate for the thread of modifying HotA to be a post "you can't".

Well I do know how to change HotA's versions of Intelligence, Mysticism and Estates.
Also the amount of starting army of Cove heroes etc.
But yeah most is still a mystery sadly.

So, uh, any news? Factory looks like my kind of town. Magog-like tier1, tier 2 units resurrecting other (mech) units and a demon/necro farming-like method promised, what's not to like It sure has been a long wait...

Halflings will not have AOE as far as I know, but some kind of on-hit effect that will affect target's ability to retaliate.

If I understood correctly, the lvl 4 unit - Automaton - was finished by Docent himself, but it will likely not get introduced before the release, so some things can remain a secret. At least for my ears, that sounds like the creatures are more or less ready.

Besides the Halflings and the Automatons (which were confirmed to be already done), all other creatures seem to be pretty much finished (Halflings could be finished too, it's just that there's no clear public info regarding their ability).

No AOE? aww... I was so hyped. Magog fireball is HYPE with manual targeting.

and it should totally be Automaton Gunner as an upgrade. We never got it in Arcanum, so we should finally get one in HoMM3, lol.

The only sad thing is that without Docent, there will be no new towns, I guess. No sand terrain either. (HoMM2 had beach AND desert terrains. HoMM3 only has sand terrain).

The level 4 creature is non-humanoid and I doubt another shooter would be included in the lineup (otherwise would end up similar to Tower, and all robots can be repaired by the level 2 as well). And I don't see what prevents new high-quality towns from being created either.

Recently I can't update or even check for updates. If I try to update,  it says:

"Error #241: Failed to download http://heroes3towns.com/HD/Update/Update.ini"

Is there something wrong with the server? It was working last month.

Thankfully, the game itself is still playable.

It's a lot of work, and the Mod's creator has died. There's of course a full team remaining, but without Docent it may not be possible to start something this serious.

Well if we get Factory, there is really no need for any more towns.
Then they could focus on balancing skills, spells, bugfixing and adding other new content.
