If I would find myself being constantly "critical" about something, IMO then the best move is simply to move on, rather than coming out with the very same arguments over and over again. That thing simply isn't for me then. Being critical for the sake of being critical isn't providing anything to the developer nor the community.

Hota aims at being the most convenient choice for MP with elements of single player added in. It's a project with a clear vision, priorities and schedule of it's own. I don't see them ever changing this policy. I'm afraid we all just need to accept it.

Well, when you look back, the development time hasn't really changed all that much. AFAIK, it took around 3 years for them to make Cove in the first place in Russian only, plus two more years to create an international release. The 1.3 (patch that was introduced in the very first post) didn't even have functional map maker. After that, major patches have been rolling out every two years or so. There have been happy exceptions, but two years have really been the norm for content patches. So, if *fingers crossed* something would happen at the end of the year, they would be right on schedule.()

True. The only way i see to make Eagle Eye relevant would be what i forced in one of my maps: banning scrolls and TP, making each player start with several completely separated towns and one hero per town, giving each town a very specific set of spells. This way you often need to find Eagle Eye (and you always need Scholar of course) in order to access new spells. But this type of map is way too restrictive to be a good solution for the community.

I just played Jebus Cross in WoG. Now's saved. Ok I got a Stronghold and Yog, ok skills are Offense, Ballistics, Resistance, Logistics, Air, Wisdom, Archery and Learning. Think about MP, I don't think it player can understand Learning, if not, skill giver could give a Eagle Eye. But I play with 10 skills, yes Eagle Eye came, I rejected and I wanted Tactics, so 6 speed isn't bad. Did likewise Resistance? If not, I don't believe in getting a Logistics. Of course those skills are excellent, thus YoG has 11 lvl with 42 Orc Os, 30 T-birds, 6 C. Kings and 5 Behemoths and 15/9/3/6 in 2 months, it does 9 Behemoths, etc, when I'm not visited. If I waited for Earth, so those skills are very mess also slow. Later on you can see what I meant. I create a map's name is maps4heroes (WoG) map in combined variations are Impossible World (included Reunion, etc), Jebus Cross and Dragon Slayer. Sorcery is a good, example of Lexiav uses a skill. But in WoG can't work, thus immunized monsters. Depends about map. So Learning is the same thing. Of course HotA could take the examples of WoG. Because Eagle Eye is also slow and strenuous work. But you play map's rule with, right? Yes! Noob never can understand it. Point!

Months without releases/announcements/(apparent) activity aren't new for HotA. Yet surprising announcements (take Factory for instance) and releases aren't unprecedented either. Nothing to get cold feet about.

What's wrong with those folks pretending to hate the game because of its hopelessly broken game mechanics who keep posting on HoMM 3 forums?

They already do and worse things actually.

yet activity means people care about the mod and pay attention to it and its updates

If nobody demanded updates the mod team have less motivation to do them.

Plus unlike HotA, there is really little that can be done with the H4 engine due to lack of tools. I can guarantee that if whole new towns and creatures could be added, it would be done in no time.

An abundance of high quality (and not so high quality...) H3 extra creatures and towns (Like desert Bastion, or ZL deer hunt town, with fully 3D modeled and skillfully rendered sprites) shows this to be the case for H3.

I see a lot of heat in the thread, i would like to remind everyone to remain civil.

I do agree some skills are worthless. Some skills are worst than others and that's ok (like First Aid compared to Water Magic) but the bad skills at least aren't worthless.

Eagle Eye is probably agreed upon being the worst skill in the game because it has so little use it could be considered useless. We have seen a good improvement for Resistance to Interference and therefore i believe we will eventually see a replacement for the Eagle Eye skill.

My hypothesis is that since Factory will release eventually they will implement new skills related to factory (probably some engineering thing that'll work with the 4th-tier unit) and at the same time they will probably bring some new skill to remove Eagle Eye for a more final version of the game. Keep in mind they have to make sure the thing will be properly balanced because this is the version the scene is running in competition; the balance must be fine tuned and they must make sure that the new content balances itself properly with the existing content.

In case they rush something and they fail to see some new OP combination, the consequences could ruin the competitive scene which is one of the most important aspect of this specific title.

Because i believe i will be playing this game until my very final day on earth (which i hope at least 5 decades from now), please do not rush the new patch otherwise maps4heroes will dry out and i will be left playing nothing anew in my golden age.

Well, to go back to a more somewhat content based discussion, I think hota team has an unwarranted love of pistols specifically

Whole of Heroes 1,2,3 and 4 = 0 pistol users

Hota town 1 = +Added pistol user

Hota town 2 = +Added another pistol user

Someone must be a fan...

I think if anything muskets or something would be more appropiate. To go from 0 gunpowder to pistol directly is somewhat technologically baffling.

There has always been rails and minecarts and Golem factories in HoMaM3 so even if i'm not a fan of far west stuff, these guns don't really bother me.

I think the argument of misbalance ruining the whole game is not valid here. If they pulish the update and competitive players complain about broken unbalanced stuff then they can patch it in 5 minutes if needed. It's just a few numbers to overwrite.
In my opinion they clearly have more important reasons to not publish the update yet, like some cutscenes are not finished yet as they already mentioned, or some bugs are very tricky to fix, etc.

Handicapped HC team Example of Troll or Gnoll vs Medusa. We think buff. *Facepalm* how Troll vs Gnoll. Complaining When can't beat the map and think about something. Impossible believer brain says such. More unbelievable never gave an answer but only complainings.

Give what HotA wants be wizard engine! Awesome..

But I don't think MOD. Think about the Lord creates the game or much better AI from chess algorithm program creates the game or example of Monopoly.

Thus..

What a MOD? A original meaning? Making more hard And beauty. So wizard engine becomes quality. I meant HotA.

Complainings are lich.

Hello there,

I've been thinking about Factory units and wanted to write it down somewhere. This looked like the right place. I know they are supposedly almost finished, but anyway...


Given the dual nature of Factory units, and their appeal for technology and improving things, I would suggest them to have heavier upgrades than other factions, with units going a full level up when upgraded.
For example, the Halfling could already be a lvl1+ unit ; the Halfling Grenadier could then be a lvl2+ equivalent.


It would go as follows :

Lvl
1 ?
1+ Halfling
2 ?+
2+ Halfling Grenadier
3 Mechanic
3+ Armadillo
4 Engineer
4+ Bellwether Armadillo
5 Sandworm
5+ Gunslinger
6 Olgoi-Khorkoi
6+ Bounty Hunter
7 Dreadnough & Couatl
7+ Juggernaut & Crimson Couatl

I mean, you could put them in a normal order, with the Halfling being a weak lvl2 unit, and the Engineer a strong lvl3+, and so forth. I mostly mean that an Engineer would be stronger than an Armadillo, and an Olgoi-Khorkoi stronger than a Gunslinger, etc.


The "Automaton" would fill the lvl 1 and lvl2 roles.
My suggestioin for them would be some kind of mechanical mix between a tumbleweed and a spider ; like the cartwheeling spider, but looking more like a tarentula and with very pointy metallic legs. Abilities, especially for the upgraded version, could include :

_ A backlash mechanism, akin to Fire Shieldand/or a defensive weakening mechanism similar to Disease.
(The spider rolls on itself, offering a mess of metallic spikes for the attacker to harm himself on)

_ Explosion : a self-destructing attack that dealt damage and inflicted the debuff all around them ; and maybe left some kind of obstacle on the hex.
(Their legs stuck in the ground and acting like a weaker mix of firewall and quicksand)

_ A jumping ability,  allowing to move over up to two hexes but requiring to build some momentum beforehand.

They would be quite fast and somewhat sturdy, but their attack would be very weak, and you would mostly use them to annoy the enemy.
Surely the unupgraded version would not be able to explode and jump just one hex.


Factory looks awesome, and I would only suggest a more steampunk-looking Mechanic-Engineer : Less steel, more brass, a pipe instead of a cigarette (or nothing at all). Their flamethrower should also produce some dirty smoke/soot.

AFAIK, the line-up has been done since spring, so there probably won't be any changes for that regard before the release at least.

The Automaton has indeed rumored to be some sort of spider. I would expect it to be somewhat fast creature, as the other parts of the mech-branch are looking very sluggish. I think it will be pretty key unit, as I also expect it to be very tied to the Factory's racial skill, and we already know the mechanics are being able to repair the machines of this kind.

As far as abilities go, I don't think it would be impossible if we see a First strike ability on it, since such ability will be introduced for a ranged creature as well. This would probably - or rather most certainly - mean that the Automaton would be some sort of glass cannon, IMO otherwise it would be very stacked creature, and I don't see why nobody would bother with the nature branch.

Btw, I think they said the last version of the mechanic/engineer unit will be different what we have seen in the past.

They have to get rid of the cigarette at least, that kills it for me.
The Factory line-up should'nt look too modern either imo.

I guess that being tier 4 units, they won't be as suicidal as the ones I depicted above, though
And with the rolling Armadillos, I doubt that another unit will move the same, sadly.

If spiders they are, maybe they will be able to climb walls. Because I feel like Factory lacks something fast before tier 5, but maybe something to help attacking cities as well.

I hope they are not too flimsy, because appart from the tier 7 units and Armadillos, everything seems to die quite easily !

Hi HotA Crew,

Just wanted to express my appreciation for the work you are doing - the expansion (it feels, and is to me, like an official expansion rather than just a mod) brought new life to HoMM3, and it has been amazing watching this 10+ year passion project unfold.

It was with sadness that I learnt of Docent's passing. I feel utmost respect for him for having headed this project for such a long time and with such passion and attention to detail.
I am also certain that the rest of the HotA team shares this unyielding enthusiasm and will keep up the fantastic work and extremely high standards. I am also looking forward to Paul Anthony Romero's contribution to the project, as I understand he offered to finish the Factory theme that Docent had been working on.

Once again, thank you all for making HotA a reality, and I hope you will keep up the brilliant work while drawing as much enjoyment from it as possible!

In any case, spider or not, I think your creature is way overengineered with three complicated unique and unintuitive abilities.

"just take another skill" isn't a valid response to bad skills, for example you could get offered either Basic First Aid or Basic Eagle Eye in level up = Your hero gets snowed through no fault of your own and you get no useful option.

Not to mention playing with random hero and getting one of the first aid or eagle eye heros (there are many of the latter)
