Just looked Google for translation of 'Âîäÿíîé' (waterman, merman - spirit of water). And it's Nix, lol.
Nixes don't at all look like River Elves (one of 'nix' translations) or merrimen.

Nixes come from German mythology. Difference between mythological appearance and HotA version is not as big as difference between Gorgons from mythology and Gorgons from HoMM3/DnD.

Jesus, will you ever stop bickering with HotA Crew? Or with your new towns obsession?

From wiki:
The Nyx/Nixie are shapeshifting water spirits ...  the English Knucker is generally depicted as a wyrm or dragon,

Even Google translation places "Nix" only as second translation after merman. And neither of those have same meaning as Russian Vodyanoy (evil spirit)

There is absolutely no reason for in-game creatures to be identical to real-world myths.
Gorgons are not cows - they are women with hair made of snakes.
Gog/Magog are characters from Old Testament.
Basilisks are often depicted as half-rooster, half-snake.
Nagas have two hands, not six.
Some characters are supposed to be unique (Cerberus, Medusa, Pegasus)

This is a game, with its own lore and myths. Which may not match real-world myths.

As a town, I find Cove very consistent. They fit the water theme and pirate theme nicely, with a good mixture of humans, creatures (beasts, spirits) and monsters.

Gorgons are cows there.

you know, not to go off on a tangent here, but i never did like the "gorgons" from H3. sure, they're strong as hell in-game, but:

they're friggin' armor plated cows, ffs. how stupid is that? not only that, but these armor-plated(and predictably heavy as all hell)cows live in a swamp? wouldn't they sink into the mud?

and, don't get me wrong, i know they already had medusa's(true gorgons), so why in the **** didn't they put them in the swamp with the other things that slither? hell, even the harpies could have went to the swamp, that would've made more sense as well, instead of having a nest in a cave. i have to say i, for one, was not a fan of the lineup changes between h2 and h3. they mixed and match things that didn't make sense. it's like they wanted a melting pot, or something. racial equality, and all that rot. jk.

on the plus side, when i learn scripting, i will be fixing all of this. it's just a shame that i have to.

to be back on topic, i think the HotA crew should have added the harpy to their line-up. makes more sense, i see it as an ugly sea-bird anyway. but then, maybe the pirates wouldn't have the morale they need to plunder? am i overthinking this?

It's not "sacred" to me. It is just plain stupid as people can't find anything else to pick on so they take some trivial crap like bloody names of the creatures.

Also seeing you pose as some badass of modding, I haven't seen your work at all, just some trolling in the forge thread.

Horn of the Abyss is very good but there are some things that I would liked better For example I think that the Kraken is better 7lvl creature than the Sea Serpent and why they didn't include the Desert terrain from one of the screenshots

It is really good because it is professional expansion (for me it is expansion rather than mod) but those things really bug me

Personally, I loved their concept since I first played the game more than 10 years ago. (wait, could be 15 already? man, time flies!)

It may not be the most 'logical' though.

Also, in M&M 8 we see Gorgons outside the swamp too

Yes. Add Beholders, Efreets and likely several others to the list.

So what we have here is:
- Wizards of the Coast who created their own creatures for DnD
- New World Computing who created their own creatures for M&M
- New World Computing who copied some of creatures from D&D.

Why you're ignoring these facts? Why NWC and WotC can create something new and HotA Crew can't?

Games are not exact depiction of myths and never have been. Neither HotA Crew, not NWC, nor WotC have to follow real-world myth.

Hello guys, I've downloaded and installed the mod. It's great.....when I manage to play it at all. I'm experiencing many crashes (all during the AI turn). Loading the autosave usually leads to the crash again.

I have the GOG version and I run it on Windows XP, if it means anything. I couldn't find where I can get the crash report, otherwise I would post it.
