I think such thing would fit more to HD options, and should display the skill offered when right-clicked, like in wog. You are interested, you travel to hut, not interested, it saves time. Try asking in HD thread, because the Hota guys pmrobably consider such thing as cheating.

Topic Witchhut:
It could be considered cheating, if it shows the skill without the need to move to the hut itself.
I think it is okay to have to move there and only get the skill via right click, if you already visited the hut before. Add just a "yes" or "no" option... don't think this could be considered cheating.
But yes, I will ask in HD thread

Topic movement shadow from enemies:
Ah, I did not think about whether this is a HD or a HotA feature... I'm sure it is a HD feature, so I'm wrong here with that question
The result of my search in HD is: Holding Ctrl while hovering over units shows there movement shadow. So the last time I saw it, my Ctrl must be locked or some other strange bug locked that.

I just see it as minor form of an "university". You don't need to pay for it but you can't select other skills or change the skill itself for witch huts (like in WoG). Same as "Market of Time" it was also involved in core maps of Era, but never released (coordinates: 54,102 on "Titans Winter"). I like both, choose of witchhut skills same as forget skills. Rampart heros for example... Dwarfs start with Resistance always, Elves always with Archery, most Overlords with Tactics, Genies with Scholar may fit to some RPG elements in M&M but not well in HoMM imho, I would like to reskill their starting skills to make them more useful for my playstyle. Maybe market of time or witchhut stuff is okay with rules like never spawn in random games or stuff like this. Anyways: now u always bring a random hero to witch huts just to check if the skill fits for main heros... not very convenient imho, it won't change much to add a yes/no option imho.

As for HD Mod and witch huts: I don't think you'll achieve much. They even banned the "hero invitations" and other stuff from HotA it was considered cheating. You aren't able to select a specific hero you want to recruit after current in tavern as it was in early HotA + HD versions.

Totally agree with the above post. Would like yes/no for Witch Huts and the Market of Time. Maybe not for random maps, but at least for other maps.

I don't know for Hota team but personally I would consider it cheating, because it's a dice roll to make, and getting the possibility to refuse a 1 or 2 also removes the joy if you get a 5 or 6. But that is me.

Why cheating? I mean, now you would send a scout/useless/8 skills hero anyways to check out the witch hut skill (and in most cases never use this witch hut again coz the skill sucks). After this change you could use any hero to visit... thats the only difference imho. Maybe a buff for 1-5 movement squares for one hero once (to check out skill) same buff/debuff for enemy. You could also use this new behaviour to buff the AI a little, in case of how the AI uses witch huts. Weak/useless skills wont be taken by AI by default, for example.

As for market of time, okay this could be considered cheating... but on the other hand it would be potent in L+ maps, on smaller maps it wouldn't be used that much... you still need to go there (also means a loss in movementpoints) for mostly main heros (very specific), not to mention money loss (also a debuff).

I would'nt call it cheating, but I see how it could make the game easier, but if ai knew how to use the new features it would have an easier time as well. Besides ai could be strengthened in other areas like priotizing mass spells or resurrection/animate dead for example. But I don't know how much control of the ai Hota Crew has...

Depends, for MP I agree with you, for single player not so much; if I save before or send a scout to check it later is an almost insignificant delay but if you are playing/creating custom maps that would allow for a stronger RMG componennt. How often have you found the hero already with customized skills or the map only allowing certain secondary skills with the only objective of reducing randomness?

Where to find proper maps for match?

Sorry for repeating, but I saw no answers on my question on page 189...

We need 10 HotA maps for a match-play.

Does anyone know where can we download such maps? M sized and 2/2 players are preferred, but others are also acceptable if they are reasonably playable for competitive 1-on-1 games. Players can choose cities.

Thank you.

I've floated around these forums for almost a decade now, never posted or made an account.

Horn of the Abyss is so incredibly good that I felt obligated to make a post thanking the project creators.

You all did a phenomenal job. Your level of detail and understanding of the game is on par with the original game developers from NWC.

I just finished the last scenario of the campaign. Amazing work! I enjoyed them as much as I enjoyed the original campaigns over ten years ago. The difficulty was phenomenal. The campaigns felt like real, serious Heroes of Might and Magic gameplay rather than puzzles relying on fancy script tricks. By comparison, WoG felt like playing Myst, not a core Heroes experience. HotA succeeded on delivering that experience fantastically. The last scenario of Horn of the Abyss was epic!

And not just the content. Rather than trying to be fancy and introduce weird gameplay variants, you stuck to the core game and improved it. Great convenience features, balance changes, and new adventure map locations.

I think this is the best mod I've ever played for any game.

This feels like a real expansion. Excellent work.

EDIT: Also, your art design is amazing. It's indistinguishable from original H3 graphics.

First, thanks to nik312 and everyone else who has contributed to this great project.

I just have a question about a problem I've been having with very long AI turns. When I play randomly generated maps, the AI turns start to become a very long starting about 3-4 months into the game. By month 4 they can be as long as 2-3 minutes.

Has this happened to anyone else? I don't get this problem with SoD, just HotA, which is really sad because I am a big fan of this project.

Any ideas on what may be causing this or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think this is because of the AI using dimension door. The calculation can apparently be rather slow to reach a result. I don't know why it should be any worse in HotA compared to SoD, though. Probably, you just play HotA more and haven't noticed it in SoD yet, I guess?

Edit: If you play on a, say, giant map then more AI players will have time to get DD. That could possibly be why you notice it more when playing HotA.

I guess you could easily test this by playing a random map where Dimension Door is disallowed. If the problem still occurs, it's not Dimension Door.

If you upload savegame file, I can try to analyze, what slows down AI and, maybe, fix it.

Even on G map, in month 4 at least 4 AIs should be killed anyways, didn't have any problems with this issue.

Yup, that's me too. All my previous attempts on Huge ended between month 5 and 7, by month 4 the AI turns are very fast compared to second/third week because even if their turns take longer, the  number of AI player's was halved.
I have this problem with WoG often, if you choose certain options you can't drag the game. But then the question is: is it better to be forced to improve your gameplay or to reduce the difficulty so you can continue to play badly? I think the awser becomes obvious.

Of course it depends upon players skill, but it also depends a lot on the map whether you defeat ai opponents by month 2, 4, 6, 9 or 12...

We are talking about HotA here but you have a point, if we had the Market of Time the Witch Huts wouldn't be a problem.

Read his question better, he is asking about random maps so the difficulty has a very small variation.
I wouln't pretend I know where someone should be in a custom map I didn't played.
