Speaking about maps... If anyone made a nice map for HotA and want to share it on HotA page on AcidCave.net - contact me via HC messenger. Same goes for any sort of  fanarts related to HotA.

Water is not really playable on random maps atm. It never was actually. Some changes were made to water area filling, but it is not enough. Someday, hopefully, we will rebalance it to the point where water will become playable in multiplayer.

Yep, can't wait, hopefully it will come fairly soon
On a related note: do you guys plan on changing the boarding/unboarding of ships not to take away all your movement points, but a fix amount instead?
Somewhere around 1/3 of an average heroes' movement points (without skills and artifacts), and you cannot board/unboard a ship in your given turn if you didn't leave enough points.

There were some ideas like that in the team, but I strongly anticipate those. The mechanics of boarding should mainly remain as it is (due to classical approach). Even if to create a map object, that will allow to board w/o turn loss, then it should be a rare exception just for certain maps/templates

I've played a bunch of island maps on XH, and if you're just a casual player than a random island map can still be pretty fun to play, even though I do agree that it's not really balanced in terms of gameplay (yet). You do get bored of such random water maps after a time, but not to say that they don't have their own charms, still.

One of the coolest/unique things about a random island map is the tend of a more dynamic underground on a big map. It'll be smaller and more spread out in its outlay. A big underground on a big, non-island map is not really balanced at all. It's just one enormous maze, but on an island it's somewhat different, I think.

One thing that annoys me is how practically none of the fixed maps have starter locations next to water. I barely ever get to build a shipyard

But that's not really a problem with HotA. Just got sidetracked for a second.

@nik312 Boarding unboarding... It is obvious that many want this part changed. (How many?... I guess not many play water anyway to care about that, but I also guess at least 50% want the change)

So... Why not make it a temporary change? Try to introduce it for 1-2 months... see how people like it and if great majority insists it sucks revert it to original behavior.

Or since it is not gamebreaking (if you do not care about water, make it an option, or part of HD+)

You have to be a little more specific than that, but if you just want to play an island map than choosing 'default' should do it.


I`ll try to be more specific. So a map suitable for hot seat, game coop if possible, preferably XL in size and containing water, with challanging properties, strong monsters, lots of stuff, providing as much challange us possible.
If you guys can, you can list other non-sea map templates too, whom are fitting the criterias.

About the new artifacts. The one called Hideous Mask has a description that says: "When worn on the head...", though in your inventory it's not treated as a helmet. Putting the "inconvenience" of actually wearing it aside, is that intended or is it some kind of HotA team mistake? Just asking, I think it's more useful that way, because there are more powerful helmets out there. Still, I think the description could be different...

The point of the Hideous Mask is that it's intimidating because of what it is and what it does. You don't show off the power of your new iron maiden by climbing into it yourself.

Then there is something wrong, because I don't have such folder there.

But after installing the newest patch, the game is playable so that the point is now moot.

I registered only to write a BIG THANK YOU for you guys, for creating this.
It is a fantastic add-on and I really like the fact that you treat it as an addon, without changing many of the core game mechanics. The new city feels very fresh and brings tons of fun to HOMM3.

Yesterday I downloaded the patch but forgot to install it.

Now I apply it...and I have a new issue.

I lauch HotA_launcher, I activate the option "update when the game is started" and I immediately get an unhandled exception ---> exception text.

Before it would run normally and would only raise an exception when there was a new patch available to download, and when I clicked on download it would raise the exception.

Game seems to run fine though.
