So I'm trying to edit a HotA map and even tho all of the heroes are enabled under map specifications I can only select a few starting heroes. The visiting hero also cant be edited in any castle and the desired hero also cannot be spawned anywhere else on the map. How can I change this or how do people even make it like this?

Are there prisons on the map? Each prison "disables" a hero. At least until you rescue them.

Also, in the map specifications you can disable heroes for specific players. So you might want to check this too.

The problem with this map isn't just how big it is, but the way it works. Instead of starting with a one small town against few other players with small towns trying to get each others towns to grow huge, you already start huge. You and the second player of course. What sets it apart is also how balanced, but also completely different both sides of Erathians and Regnans are. The get different parts of the story, perspectives and of course their area and how they are going to play. And even after taking care of your neighbour, next to the conflict there's also the mysterious third side which I'm not going to spoil on what they do in the story since it did caught me offguard first time playing. All I can say is that it's another good map that definitely has its own unique style.



Both Wavekiller and Manshere can be easily trapped on a small island using destroy boat or reduced to ashes with armagedon hit and run. Was that intended?

I mean I dont want to see players-enamy army strenght at all. If I will go to my enemy player area (my friend with I am play) he should not know anything about my army.

There is a spell called disguise ... but even with it it's quite obvious by the numbers xD Unless you have expert air ofc.

Yes. But now it is even more impossible to reach. It cannot be reached on small-size maps or, for instance, on random maps. But 500 is now Azure Dragon rank. Archangel requires less

however Disguise doesn't work well when Blue ends turn you can immediately see everything again

Now that I've finished that map on Erathians side and I'm in the middle of playing on Regnans side, I must say, this map turned out much better than I thought, but yes, the AI being trapped on small islands like this [url=https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/293444086973857793/414082562026242048/jk.png]is certainly an issue[/url]

I also must say getting red keytent and getting to a tavern on the sea as fast as possible is crucial for this map. The fact that you can't have a tavern in any of your towns meaning you both can't run away from battles and once your heroes are dead, they're dead for good is a big enough reason why it's important. Doesn't also help that the heroes you can hire there have a huge level advantage and they all have set of great artifacts, including SoD sets.

The map overall is stunning from beginning to an end and even despite winning against the other side, I thought I lost for good when I saw final 2 Brown ships appear with army bigger than any army I had at that point. Thing is, the actual final fight, even on highest difficulty setting is... super easy once you realize it's against a town without a hero. As long as you can just tank the dragons and blind everyone else + resurrect any lost units it loses its challenge. I imagine with Expert Fire Magic, Berserker and Orb of Vulnerability its even easier, funnier and faster to achieve.

Speaking of, to anyone who finished the map, what were your stats and how did the last fight go? I'm curious. Again, I've finished the map on impossible difficulty and despite using heroes like Loynis or Edric (which I've pretty much never used that much before) and getting to 7th Month, [url=https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/319755823075164161/414469916998107136/bd.png]it ended up[/url] [url=https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/293444086973857793/414082522062913537/welp.png]pretty well I think?[/url](lost Crusaders because dragons have decided to sleep on them)

Wasn't Hota meant to add commanders at some point, rebalanced from WoG? I recall reading about it in a news. 10 years ago. Yes, in 2008

Another question would be: why were the useless skills like Learning or Eagle eye left alone? I can see that hota developers did aim to fix some of the game's innate imbalance by nerfing necro and conflux (and they did a fine job), but at the same time they left the useless skills unfixed? Why would that be? WoG did offer some nice examples on how to fix those skills. While some were gamebreaking (WoG Sorcery I, anyone?), some made sense. I liked how WoG dealt with Learning for instance.

I think there was an idea of adding commanders to the game at some point in development. Nowadays, that's indeed outdated information. They're will probaply never add commanders, as they are more like a wog-thing.

I'm also surprised they have not fixed some skills at this point, as that thing has been in their list, or at least it was an year or two ago. The task may have been proven to be more difficult than they have expected, or they are still looking for ways to deal with some of the secondary skills. There are some core issues with few skills, for example first aid. In normal SP or MP game, no matter how many hit points the tent restores, the skill just isn't worth picking.

i don't agree. First Aid and Mysticism are good pve skills

Well, commanders are probably more problematic regarding balance. In WoG, some of the specials and powers for commanders were a tad too powerful. Paralysis, for instance. I loved commanders because it felt like having a developing unit on the field, which I'm a sucker for.

Stack experience was a big NO NO to me. You know how ridiculous it was when you could pick the Troglodyte specialist, hire 100 trogs day1, quickly ace them and absolutely TRAMPLE everything with trogs + antimagic. aced trogs were akin to level 3 units, only with numbers and creature specialist bonus. lol.

I loved how WoG dealt with inferior skills, though. Their solution to learning skill was brilliant. Combining mech skills into warfare was great too. Seriously, a "free" artillery/first aid still doesn't make ballistics OP in my book. Mysticism regenerating 10/20/30% mana? seems OP at first but you're giving up offense or tactics for that, and it's no longer OP when you think about it this way.

I could potentially give HOTA a try one day but it really needs to deal with this or else I'll just stick to WOG. In WOG at least I don't have to cry when I get offered Learning/Mysticism. Eagle Eye still sucks tho, because one solution is too weak, and the other - completely OP. Oh well

I chose Loynis as primary hero, because his speciality - guaranteed prayer spell with a bonus effect is very interesting combined with expert water magic. Rerolled level 4 mage guilds to give me resurrection, clone and water walk. Mid game I picked up the cartographer, that was very enlightening, because it gives a hint about brown players situation. It actually took me quite long to unlock the supertavern. Finnished off the pirates around end of month 5, then I spent time gathering resources for the final battle. Had 2 heroes ready at town gates, just as brown 3 and 4 appeared, I started hunting them down. I managed to trap one of them on a small island and then I had 5 heroes with one phoenix each chasing the other down. It was one of the most disproportional (how hard I expected it to be and how easy it turned out) fights I had in Heroes 3. That was about end of month 7. Tried to take out the dungeon with current army at that time, but 1500 black dragons were just too much at that moment. Tried again at month 10, with 260 archangels, 3800 marxmen, 750 zealots, 160 haspids, 85 phoenixes, 2500 griffins and 130 titans, that was enough, because I kept cloning archangels to cast resurrection on other stacks. Skills 87 / 59 / 94 / 68, level 38.

Hey, sorry ~ it's probably not the right place to post this but I don't know anywhere else so here goes nothing.

I stumbled over those pictures which were supposed to contain most new Hota objects we all know and love, but aside from that there were so many other absolutely stunning ones I've never seen before. So long story short ~ does anyone know if there's any map from which I can get them or any way to access those? They're absolutely BEAUTIFUL and I GOT TO use them in my maps!
