No, they are NIXES - big water creatures, which had too many concepts to tell what it actually resembles.

Could you make more of these 'evolutions' of cove creatures? It is a really nice way to get a little bit insight in the creative process behind this great expansion.

There are some here in the Galeria -  Modele, Szkice section

Btw, blue Nix is better than current. Its upgrade was crimson w. full armor. Why don't you release an alternate version patch for the Nyx appearence?

That is one of the reasons why we don't publish those creature evolutions and old works overall. Most people w/o specific education see everything "new" as something better than existing (especially in graphics). That's really irritating for any artist who processed a huge work before final model was considered good enough.

To be fair I don't think this is the case with Lord_Immortal or anyone else necessarily who see the Blue Nix is looking better. I too think the blue Nix makes more sense and is more appealing it is has nothing to do with it being "newer". Just that it looks more like an oceanic hominid...kind of 'shark-ish', whereas the current Nix looks like it could be a new version of the fortress lizardmen/warriors and does not really provoke the feeling that this is a water borne creature.

How can a previous version be better if a number of professional artists have decided it is not good enough to be accepted?

And most people seeing old concepts cannot overcome a cognitive bias of "something new". That nix IMHO is a perfect example. It strikes my eye with appearance totally unfitting current Town Style and Heroes III overall graphical style. But that's exactly why it creates an illusion of something so fresh and cool.
It would actually look better in heroes 2, but in current Heroes 3 Cove lineup I would be rather confused by such... creature.

PS Still, don't know what was an opinion of Docent/other artists on it.

So much familiarity that you ask HotA team to release a minor patch to change some graphics when HotA team is well known to release only one version of their work...yeah right.

I completely understand nik. While people can have different opinions, this kind of requests are like an insult to all the efforts HotA crew has put into this MOD.

Where did he ask for HotA to release a minor patch?!

I have seen crocodiles and I have also seen octopi and porcupines, so long as we are dragging irrelevant creatures into the discussion. Our point that you seem to be confused about is that the blue 'shark-man' looking Nix looks more OCEANIC (so crocodiles are irrlevant) than a swampy lizardman.

OK. I get it now. Well, maybe some kind of sharkish Nix could have had a right to become final version, but it didn't make it after all. It's OK. Let's not forget that Cove's native terrain is tropical swamp after all.

Boys, if you want a blue Nix get yourself a pair of blue glasses or extract the def an recolour all the frames with GIMP, Krita or whatever program. But please stop this umpteenth time-hairsplitting.

Why so much troubles? This Nix was in Cove Beta version, anyone can still get him.

First, Storm-Giant, read carefully to understand what's written kid.

Familiarity with the process of modding.I mod Mount&Blade.Might not be the same as modding Heroes III, but I know that a modder never throws away his work. So the HotA team MUST have those models/icons(I've seen'em in another mod too).

The HotA team well-known for releasing 1 version of their work... no, I didn't know that.

Releasing alternate patch is not an insult. I'm not saying that their current model is bad. Just that my tastes are a little different. Modding teams should release various alternative downloads. It's a way to fit better with the "customers" and their tastes.

And they should release all the defs they don't intend to use. Other modders may very well use them in their mods.

But, whether the Nix should be blue or green is not a valid argument for fighting and insulting each other. I think discussing the appearence of creatures IS important, for as long as we keep an open mind to all opinions. Most likely I'm not going to change Storm-Giant's (or anyone else) mind but I'd like to express my opinion freely and see if it gains support.

EDIT: Can anyone, btw, direct me to that mod that uses the beta Nix(blue&crimson) and end these here.

i do, all the time. i'm constantly upgrading or replacing old graphics, and i never keep the old(or even the new, really. if i want to change updated or replaced graphics, i re-extract it from the lod again). it would take up too much unneeded space if i kept it around. the only things i DON'T chuck are incomplete ideas. but once the idea's firmly implanted, then away the draftwork goes. but i work with a ton of graphics, so maybe i'm the odd one out here.

I agree no polls. They make happy only a part of the public.

Fred,(offtopic and for curiosity's sake), don't you keep some of your older works (not the bad ones, I too remove bad work) for some sort of nostalgia?

@Lord_Immortal: I was in a bad mood this afternoon when I wrote that, my apologies.

But have in mind, everytime you drop here you post the first idea that comes to your mind, and it can be really tiring when you have been told several times HotA team doesn't work this way...

Ehh, no. They don't owe anyone else anything. Heck, we are lucky enough that we have such a talented and dedicated group making such a quality fan-based expansion as it is! Whatever they produce isn't covered by a publisher's contract and hence is their own intellectual property.

While it *would* be nice if they'd release their unused material, they most certainly *shouldn't*, just because you somehow feel entitled to the material they created.
