Is difficult to compare H2 with H3 but ignore WoG, it is a natural extension. And with all the perks and tweaks possible, you basically get Heroes 1-10 in one. + the graphics for the nostalgic ones, as SW mod for example.

H2 was a fantastic game, but the online tournaments lost their breath after a while. There was not much editing possible, and balance was terrible, speed always won, some factions had no chance against others.
The random templates were in stone age compared to H3 ones, and even maps as Broken Alliance (which I played about 500 times online) had a sure way to win, from x position and with x race. When H3 came out, everybody, without exception, moved to. H2 tournaments closed and H2 mapmakers converted to H3.

Personally I don't know a single H2 map designed after H3 came out. H2 had its glorious time.

No really, everyone knows that H2 is imbalanced, but many people are singleplayer-oriented, like I am. I enjoy the most the big scenarios with tons of internal lore and artificial challenges.

But yes, the only things H2 can be really compared with H3 is the warm graphics and overall drawing style. Well, and OST at some point... yet I cannot say something less than brilliant about H3 OST. The H3 townscreen music blows me off. H2 music is not like that, even in midi which I like more.

Still, H2 is the ultimate fun. I don't have time for online gaming. I don't even understand turn-based strategy multiplayer when it is not in the Hot Seat mode (I think it's ultimately boring), because Hot Seat is also fun.

Still, a lot of people dislike H3SW saying it's too much H3-ish - they want 5 slots and all that (surprisingly). But we cannot be nice for everyone - we must keep the optimal way to gather the majority.

You do what you think is best and it will be great.

Yet again missing the point: people like H2 better because of its style, atmosphere, and general casual playability. Tournaments and competition was not one of the reasons, although that's fun enough as well.

There is no point to miss, we express our opinions. You joined this forum and for a first post, you label us as annoying fan boys, never happy and constantly bickering around.

Well, this is a fan base forum purpose. So unless you bring some interesting arguments-which I didn't see-, there is not much to argue about.

Can I just quote Joonas's entire post on the first page? There's nothing I really disagree with except for H4 being below H3 and especially H6 wtf.

How about this: We team up in pairs of two. Then each team gets a metal rod and a mace. Now the goal will be to smash that rod into the ground.
However, they say you have to have faith in your games and thus this one will be no different.

One of the two must hold the iron rod while the other one swings the mace with full power. (Have faith in the swinger's accuracy). The catch here would be if you missed and...

No really, I think a ingame battle would be best.

I think a one doesn't have to be a super pro in the game to consider him/her a top fan of all time Dedication and undying memory are valuable much more.

H3SW, maybe... but only because it retains the atmosphere of Heroes II.

Homm3 is more playable than Homm2 because it simply has more complexity. The difference is not as big as between Homm1 and Homm2, but in Homm3 the player can make much more decisions - that's why the game is more popular, there is also simply more options - more cities, more spells, more hero types.

Personally I really prefer the beautiful Homm2 graphics, for music Homm3 is much better.

Homm2 is really less playable since we do not have the "wait" button and the AI is really bad (not that it was super good in the third game, but it was still improved).

What I really miss is that in the second game we had the "hero" aspect. Not only warrior heroes were useful (whose stats would be added to each creatures properties), but spellcaster heroes could be much more useful. By spellcaster I mean direct damage. In Homm3 spells are mostly used to help units, of course they can change the tide of the battle, but usually those are not direct spells - but some other type of a spell (haste, slow etc.). A chain lightning in Homm3 in a high level vs high level hero battle is usually a wasted spell. In Homm2 spellcaster heroes could do much more direct damage.
I am not sure if this was good, but definitely the game was a bit better.

Some scenarios, especially Broken Alliance are incredibly good (the Homm3 remake is also incredibly good btw), but after playing Homm3 it is very hard to come back to Homm2 for a long time, because one quickly realises that there are fewer options in the game.

But it is still worth a try, the game was and still is very good, the graphics havent really aged.
