CampaignEditor - version 7?

Hello to you, dear Heroes.

I've been playing through the first part of the Chronicles series, but it strikes me as too easy. What I really wanted is the storyline, so I thought maybe I could find a transcript somewhere.

I didn't find a transcript, but I did find a way to extract at least some of the campaigns
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105460942/heroes/Chronicles/Hc1Prev.h3c
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105460942/heroes/Chronicles/Hc2Prev.h3c
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105460942/heroes/Chronicles/Hc3Prev.h3c
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105460942/heroes/Chronicles/Hc4Prev.h3c

Problem is, I can't open them in the Heroes 3 Campaign Editor, allegedly because they are version 7, while the Campaign Editor is version 6.
I get this erroe message:
Quote:

"Invalid campaign file version!

File version = 7
Current version = 6

What I don't know is what I need to open them. A googling gives me not a single clue as to what "version 7" is and how I get it.
It's a pity if it all strands here. I was hoping to extract all the transcripts, get an overview of the campaigns, maybe even modify them to be tougher.
(Would it be immoral to post Chronicles Campaigns here or somewhere like it?)

I hope someone knows something.

For the Heroes Chronicles games, they made quite some changes to the main campaign menu as you can see. As a result, when they made the games, they updated their internal campaign editor, one that was never released to the public. Unfortunately, since they never did and no one apparently managed to write an extractor for it, I think it's impossible to extract the individual map files. It's something I'd like too, by the way, but like you, I've not been able to find a means for its extraction.

Thanks! That's just wonderful.

One problem about ramping up the difficulty is that a lot of what makes the game easy is hinted at in the storyline (such as the gold mine in Warlords, map 2 or the artifacts in Conquest). The most interesting solution will probably be to keep those aspects, but make the opponent strong enough to make them absolutely necessary. And maybe the number of permanent power-ups need to be decreased a bit.

That link was useful! Now I finally found out what happened to Yalla ... despite several playthroughs, I always missed where she dies. Turns out I may have finished the map in which it happens too fast each time.

Thanks for posting it, I've saved and stored them for future reference .

Unlikely. I missed it, so I loaded the game and waited until the scripts stopped coming (Last script: "It's been 9 days".) Then I waited a month or more, and nothing happened. By the map file, the message of Yallah' death should come some 10 days after that one, tops.

So most likely there's a bug in the game.

I always knew what happened to Yalla (because save file from Mission 4 contains this text: "A scout returns and nervously gives you bad news.
The Wizards of Bracaduun have plucked the thorn from their backside. Yalla was captured while robbing a Bracaduun Gold Mine - apparently, it was a trap she couldn't resist. The scout witnessed Yalla's public execution. She boldly stood up to her captors and spat in face of the spellcaster who conjured the lightning that killed her.
You clench your fists and demand to be alone. For hours you take your axe to the nearest trees, felling the entire grove, and then chopping them into pieces too small to even make good firewood. All the while you picture them wearing the colorful robes of a Wizard.")

Perhaps there is an error in the mission script and this event never happening in the real game?

Curious. Now that we have the actual map files, it should be easy enough to check what the conditions are that give that message. I'm at work now, so no map editor available, but I'll sink my teeth in it once I get home; shouldn't be too hard to figure out the bug.

In the same line of reasoning, I think they made a bug in one of the Underworld maps as well, simply a human error in setting up the teams. On one of the earlier maps, the Purple Necropolis player is teamed up with the player, while the Green Necropolis player - which is fairly close to it - is set as an enemy. The Blue player on that map, which has no interaction whatsoever with any of the other AI players, is teamed up instead.

Edit: Got home and checked the map. The timed events that display the messages every now and then are tied to your main town. However, all messages are displayed for Player 6 (the purple player), except for the last one, detailing her death. That message is set to only play for Player 1 (the red player). Obviously, this is a mistake made by the mapmaker, who forgot to set the player correctly.

hinted at the storyline and easy to find, but that is ONLY in the first senarios, i just got crazy dealing with the wizards in siege of wallpeaks, if you don't get the first town he'll just give you a hit, and run if you send a hero to him, not to mention my reinforcements from the swamps take long to get to my base. and the monoliths at the edge of the enemy base of operations are just annoying.

Warning: spoilers!
Knights, not Wizards.
You can concentrate on cleaning your way over the swamp to Raider's Plateau (at the same time visiting green keymasters tent to the south-east of your main town) and conquer one enemy town thru the monolith from Raider's Plateau. In this mission one of your heroes should get Earth Magic with Wisdom so the Town Portal spell in Pandora's Box on the Plateau should become very useful.

P.S. There are also a spring that can double two of your heroes normal spellpoints once a week just west of your main town.

thanks for the advice buddy, also i said "Wizards" cause they were the ones sitting behind the wallpeaks, enslaving the poor barbarians.

WIZARDS! they call them selves, they think they are so smart, but can't get crag hack's first name right.

Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help me.

I've been playing through the Shadow of Death campaigns and I seem to have hit a bug that won't let me progress any further - when I start the Union scenario one of the artefacts I need to put together the Angelic Alliance (the helmet one) isn't carried over, so I can't complete the map.

I was thinking I could just go into the editor and give myself the helmet to get round this, but I can't work out how to open the map in the campaign editor, I can't find any the campaign map files - what should I be doing?

Thanks a lot,
RD
