Couldn't it be better to add "Heroes of Might and Magic II" or "Heroes 3" to the title such that the video can be found by people who have never heard about HotA?

I don't know if the title would be too long if I added this, but I'll take a look. I did already use tags like 'HMM3', 'Heroes of Might and Magic III' and others to help out with finding the video, though.

Edit: I've changed the name to: Heroes of Might and Magic III: Horn of the Abyss expansion (Fan Trailer).

I've also made a custom thumbnail. You might have to clear your cache to see it, though.

Anyhow, when the official trailer is someday finished then the crew should consider having already established channels upload the trailer for them besides on their own channel. This would help a ton by giving the trailer initial momentum and thus reaching more people in the search results.

Apart from video reviews' makers, we can also approach those who simply write reviews

I guess it might be a good idea to look which reviews of HoMM III are the most popular on the net, and then inform their creators about HotA. And I mean not only reviews in English.

There's certainly no harm in writing to your favourite - or whatever - gaming central asking them to consider highlighting HotA in some way, e.g., in their 'news' section.

I've added some annotations linking to videos which gives a closer look at the creatures of the Cove town and their abilities. I've also added a small bonus, feature video.

What do you think of it? Maybe annotations are just irritating, I dunno.

Anyhow, same link:

Hey, I must say I like this trailer very much.

Just a comment though :
I think we need a little more time to read the new features at the start of the video, same goes for the Cove creatures overview, with spotlight links (maybe add 3/4 seconds to each part so we have time to read and to click).

Thanks. I agree that some timings could be much better (having a natural reading time and such for each segment), but unfortunately I cannot edit the original video after it has been uploaded. I could upload a new one, but then all of the views would be gone. Not that I personally care about view counts, but it means that the video is easier to find and such. There's also other aspects of the trailer that I know and want to improve upon if I had to remake it, but one day the crew is probably going to make an official trailer, right? and then I'm likely to just delete mine anyhow, so it's probably okay that it's not all it could be. I could remake it if I suddenly feel enough like doing it, though.

I've been working on making a hopefully better version of the previous fan trailer that I made, and now remake RC1 is ready to be watched by the HC community. Hopefully somebody will leave some feedback for me so that I can work towards releasing an improved version of RC1. The RC1 video is probably a little rough around the edges right now.

What's new/changed:

+some new footage, updated for 1.3.3
+no system cursor visible in most of the footage
+more time to read/observe
+slightly updated creature spotlights (I'll wait for feedback before releasing all of them, there's currently two of them uploaded)
+video shows more HotA stuff, but it's also quite a bit longer than the old one

If the remake turns out to be preferred to the old one (when it's completely done) then I'll link to the final version of it by the old trailer. If the view counts gets close at some point, I'll hide the old one, I suppose. However, it might be too similar to the old one to warrant replacing it. I could make a 800x600 version, too...

I'm thinking of:

-Adding the New World Computing or/and the 3DO intro at the beginning
-making sure all timings/cuts are comfortable to watch/read
-the Cove town soundtrack was too short for the new length, and so I had to prolong it. I dunno how well achieved this, tho. Also, maybe it'll get to monotone listing to the same track for 4+ minutes that was only apox. 3 minutes originally.
-the segment about 'new visitable objects' is probably dragged out a bit too much, but I dunno.

Comments on these thoughts would be appreciated, too.

The RC2 is a release that should leave a lot more distance to the previous, old trailer than was the case with RC1. That's not to say it's the final version. Please feel free to leave feedback or critique.

What's new/changed:

+all footage updated to 1.3.3 and some other footage has been replaced
+new intro
+better timings/cuts
+picture in picture
+Docent's lovely 'Cove Town' soundtrack is now played to the sweet end. The prolongation of it should be better now, too
+A HotA banner at the end of the video (will be linking to the standalone, is planned *edit this is not possible, actually. It still looks kinda cool, tho)
+new sub-headlines
+1 additional screenshot showing the new of the map editor
+'map messages' is now 'on' (HD mod setting)

I'm thinking of:

drinking coffee
finishing updating the rest of the creature spotlight videos and uploading them

Please enjoy (hopefully)

Much improved. Maybe the next video (if one is made) could also demonstrate the graphical change for towns depending on the level of their castle, and perhaps the improved number of water-located objects.

Thanks. They're good ideas, and I could certainly do the first one with a simple screenshot. The time frame is extremely limited at this point by two factors, tho. First, the video is already quite long. Secondly, the prolongation of the Cove theme music track is already used at its full reasonable added length; further prolongation would not be turn out great, I think. It's probably possible to edit something here and there and free up a bit of available room, though, but maybe not. Of course adding a side-video by annotations is always an option. We'll see. btw, I fixed the two duplicate annotations in the video.

I watched it but forgot to comment.

The trailer is good but maybe too long.

PS: I think you could use a bit more of text to remark what you are displaying. Like when you go to the crystal silo, there's nothing saying "hey, new once-a-week resources silos!" or something like that.

Still a great effort

Yeah, some will no doubt feel that way, but it's really hard with a game like HMM3 to make a trailer that ends before the magic 2.5 minute mark of average attention span. Fun fact, the first trailer was 2.34 minutes long, the newest is 6.09 minutes long. So, a whopping 3.75 minutes difference. haha. It's possible to keep it below the 2.5 minutes mark, but it's a tough balance. A tight, yet comfortable to watch, cutting and timings is needed for that, besides good footage material. Very hard, I feel.

Quite nice actually

A couple suggestions from me:

"Triple level 3 creature upgrades" - why plural? There is only one creature with such unique feature. I'd reccomend something like "Unique creature with triple uprade"

The part with dwell accumulation is a bit unobvious. It can be interpreted like you've recruited 16 nymphs and then you have twice as much on next week. I think you should show the click of "reject button" there

Screenshot with deathcloud button is for some reason cropped. Looks awkward.

And yeah, one more thing... Keep up good work!

Something did feel off with the original text. It didn't even sound quite like proper English. I like your suggestion for wording. I'll use it.

I can see what you mean about it not being obvious, now that you say it. I should maybe also use a dwelling that's not level 1. I'll definitely redo that part

I agree. I could make it better by using two screenshots. I might even add a demo video as a annotation, if not too much.

RC3 (might not be live yet, wait 20-30 mins from this post)

creature video RC3 test (level 7). (might not be live yet, wait 20-30 mins from this post)

no time for adding it as an annotation, I'll do that later tonight

RC3 released

What's changed:

-timings
-new 'accumulating dwellings' footage (it should be more meaningful now)
-new 'good luck, bad luck' footage (it makes more sense now)
-generally fixed small stuff
-changed stuff based on feedback
-creature spotlights has been updated. Standardised timings, break header at the start (just one video uploaded, atm.)
-made the whole video more understandable
-removed 'hippox-icon at the end'
-more... (I have little time right now to type)

Thanks for the feedback, and let me know what you think of the RC3 release. Gotta run now.

Hmm, maybe I'll add some boxes with question marks in the backpack to peck at the curiosity of people? I could also simply add the icons of the other missing artefacts but then not comment on them. Also, there should probably be a consistency between the backdrops of 'new artefacts' and 'new artefacts sets' (it changes when actually shouldn't, although it's a small thing).

Edit:

I've actually also forgot to cut in any footage with the cannon yard in this release, although, I'm not sure there's room for it now, hmm. Also, I'm thinking there's a bit of 'text wall syndrome' going on in the level 7 creature spotlight video, true?

Well it's improved, but there are still things I feel could have been included had there been time, and places where we linger too long, for example the town sequence at the start, we spend 8 seconds each in the basic and upgraded towns, where only about half that is really needed, and about 7 for each of the basic and upgraded creatures, which again could be cut to about half (so in the first minute you could make up about 14 seconds to spend on other features).

+1.

I think you should not assume that people who watch need enough time to read every aspect/are interested by details. It only needs to stimulate the curiosity by quickly flashing through all the colorful features, using dynamical zoom in/out. One minute should be enough but powerful.
Also the music track is the key when making trailers. The cove town music is too soft for a trailer, a combat track would work better IMO.

I understand what you're saying, Sal. I think that'd make a good fast-paced and flashy trailer. Maybe it's also the best kind of trailer when it really comes down to it, even for a game such as HMM3.

Anyhow, the first trailer I made I wanted to show many details, but still by keeping the trailer length at less than 2.5 minutes. The result was that it felt kinda rushed, so with the new trailer I wanted to slow the pace down and show even more details. It was what made sense to me at the time, but I can see the problems with this approach more clearly now than I could before.

I might try to do a 1 minute trailer at some point, but it depends of course on what the crew/other fans will do in the meantime. Right now, I'm going to make the final version of the long trailer, because I'm close at calling it done as it is, anyhow. I'll look at shortening some of the timers, tho. I don't know what I'll do with it, though. What's better, a more polished but much longer trailer, or the old, shorter trailer that's less polished?

Actually you could make two trailers. The long and polished one as a more informative one, and a short one (around one minute or so) with very basic info (like, when you show the new artifcats, just a pic with a text saying "lots of new artefacts", and so on).
Oh, and you could link the long trailer in the short one with YT annontations system.

In other words, what Sal said
