I quit my job

Hello, dear HC users. Today, I'm gonna show you something special: a piece of Poorland. A place where I worked. And an utter joke. SInce I'm no longer working there, I decided to revisit the place and my memories related to it. As you probably have guessed, they suck.

This thread may be informative for members from rich countries - so you can see for yourself how much of a joke my country is.

Long story short: I worked in a research institute. Sounds serious, but the place was ... humiliating? The conditions in which I worked, and the payment... plus, at first, I was merely killing time there but as my knowledge grew, I got more and more of stuff to do. To the point of total overload of my tired brain. I'll get to that later.

Let's start by the phone.... You know, my Institute was amazing. Not only they gave me work, but they also tutored me in history.

The tutoring covered more areas. Like patience, for instance - when your PC is almost as old as you and hungs up every 15 mins, one can develop angelic patience.

... but hey, at least the software's there. For example, a very recent version of MS Office.

There's also a very ergonomic chair for each worker. After all, no back pains are very important for one's mental condition.

Butt pains are fine, tho. They make you want to sit less and excercise more, which is great for health! (a big @ss screw sticking through the seat can do miracles)

Of course, one cannot excercise in a cold room. That's why they supplied me with great air conditioning.

Too bad it burnt down a month ago. But hey, spring's here, no need to turn up the heat.

Of course, one cannot be overly reliant on the elements, so a form of protection against strong wind and low temperature is also necessary.

What an amazing workspace, don't you think? A Master degree holder's dream. Think of it, you don't have to carry a phone with you, or a PC, or warm clothes, or your own chair. Your very own employer gives you all of those out of the goodness of his heart and his sincere care for the standards of the reasearch institute.

...

Oh boy. Can't believe I spent almost two years there. Come to think of it, my list of responsibilities was kinda long...

- Developing and carrying out test procedures
- Care for documentation
- Doing occasional field work
- Being available for national and international business trips
- Participating in quite serious 7th Framework project (developing new rail technologies for European Union)
- Doing certification of rail devices
- Participating in conferences and writing articles for those

All of that for such an amazing salary!

those 435 euros is not minimum wage is it? cause in here it's 400 euros is the smallest average wage for a qualified worker. And I don't mean an office rat, but a fellow who does physical labor.

epic office by the way.

But actually I wouldn't be so pissed, only stuck up arrogant basterds who hold the habilitated doctorate's degree get tons of cash.

Minimum wage in Pooland is 402.5 EURO.

The average pay for a regular office worker is around 430-500 EURO

However, average office worker doesn't have to do:

- field work
- conferences
- articles
- international work
- research done via European research projects

having Master's degree in technical field is also unnecessary (along with any specialistic knowledge) to work in a typical office

average office worker also gets a working PC, a normal chair, often a mobile phone and a laptop, sometimes even a car (rarely).

I got nothing, worked on prehistoriec gear, got overcharged with work and in addition I have been paid barely above minimum wage.

did they at least covered the expenses of the trips e.g. hotel bills?

the working conditions you showed here trully sucks ass. not even plastic windows are installed. what backwater is this? 'cmon even the most run down shacks in the 'eastern bloc' has those(plus satelite TV, but it's not relevant here). and this is a bloody research institute we're talking about! where people doing science crap and whatnot.

my guess is they were "saving money" to get it into their fat bank accounts. you know how leeching of EU funds goes.

Yes, but they reserved only the poorest one-star hotels only, and the transport was via cheapest trains.

You should be happy that the minimum wage is 400 euros. In Serbia, I recall it's about 200€/month.

Do you want to feel better and to get woman into confusion? I get a salary about € 470 a month. Next year is a potenial € 200 per month. How? I do not have to calculate the unemployment allowance and if the 200 € that would have been better for € 9 per day. Income is tax-free! But the pension Yes I'm going to stay there! Well tes calculator reduction of housing assistance. It is of € 200. I do dont know whether it is true. As one of the guy is a sociopath. He said one employee was planning to buy an expensive Mercedes. If he live with the mother's. I can believe! But the genius of your own money. If I stay there. 5 years from the monthly salary is better than current salary. And 8-years away I'm all right. Now, four years is still.. Work experience! Because they want to get lazy and so easy to work. Hard to get! Foreigners and sick people get easily. But the same work experience is required.

Why would they reserve anything else?

That would be a waste of money.
