Emmaxamoun map - max difficulty

Hi could use some help on this map.  I can tell it was meant to be played on lower difficulties because the neutral enemy stacks are too powerful at this setting.

Tried a few tactics.  What I am doing right now is stacks of druids generating wolves every day.  In month 3.  Protecting Medusas at all cost and utilizing infinity arrows.  Harass enemy with 2nd level spell wasp swarm, summon sprites and summon wolves for distractions.  Use fear ability of nightmares.  Having some success.  Just had a battle against harpies and was able to just keep wasp swarm / fear / land sprite near them / wolves move towards them / infinity medusa arrows to them for the whole battle.

Any ideas on this?  It is a chaos castle.  (Bandits, Orcs, Medusa, Nightmares)

Trying to get black dragons but at 1,000 gold a day (no noblemen) its going slow.

Also if anyone played this map if you could tell me if it was an enjoyable map overall as I am dumping some time into it.  If spoilers just say spoilers above post.

Thief
*****

I have a question about thieves and sneak.  I basically don't understand how it works.  I sent my thief into a wood mill protected by level 1 creature sprites.  They saw my thief so I could not take the mill.  If it had been a chest of treasure would he have been able to take it without being noticed?  I do not understand this skill but feel if I did I could use it to beat this map.

Edit:

I searched the sneak skill and think I understand it now.  I would have to be advanced for the sprites to not see me.  Is this skill useful on this map I guess I will have to experiment.

I haven't played H4 for some time, but if you use a thief,he could upgrade his scouting skill(stealth skill accordingly) just with fooling around if already advanced.
What do i mean-when you have advanced stealth, you can use it whenever you wish to pass through a zone, guarded by creature and you receive experience for that.
So basically, after getting advanced stealth, you can gain experience by passing by level one creatures.
When you get expert stealth, you will get experience passing by level 2 creatures and you will advance it further.

The point is-for every level of stealth you need the same level of scouting and with grandmaster scouting you can see enemies with grandmaster stealth.
(there are maps, where such enemies stand still and it's the ONLY way to see them)

Hey thanks this is very helpful.

After several attempts first trying a necromancer (to try to build up to grandmaster necromancy for vampires), second trying all druids (to build up free units), I finally cracked this map.

The entire map hinges on using the thief you are provided in the beginning.  It is obvious of the mapmakers intentions of you doing this after seeing the thief skill powerups and the fact you start with him.  I have gotten my thief to grandmaster and it is like a totally different map with this.

I do have one more question about preferences. I often have a secondary skill set I try to power a main hero up with.  What makes the most sense with a thief?  The map revolves so far around chaos magic with chaos scrolls for sale spawn and chaos magic runes so I am debating this.  The thief has already gained several levels which makes me think turning him into a melee / ranged attacker makes more sense as he is going to have higher hit points and other stats from what I can tell.  My third choice would be the general / knight type skills such as plus defense plus offense

What do you guys dual class your thief into in this instance?  Thanks.

If there aren't any huts or academies to learn it, Nature Magic should pop up while leveling up. On a Chaos map you can learn Nature Magic Spells in your/allied towns.

Become a BARD!!

Acquire poison flasks to be able to apply damage over time, or the poison arrow if you come across it.

Make Combat your 3rd, less important skill. Focus on the base Combat skill and Magic Resistance skill first. You need to level up a lot to become a proper solo character. When both of those are close to maxed, you can start with Melee. Avoid Archery imo, the only time you should shoot with a bow is to apply Debuffs on your opponents from special items in your inventory, if the situation calls for it.

Additionally avoid Summoning skill (Nature) and the Navigation skill (Scouting).

Why a Bard? he always has maximum luck which helps against magic and physical damage alike.

He is awesome, being a solo player, playing against single stacks of enemies, he can summon useful allies with nature magic if you can acquire the spells.

Summon Water Elementals (mostly for Slow and Quicksand) at Expert Nature magic. Using slow, quicksand and buff yourself with Speed and Terrain Walk. Use poison at your strong enemy, and just walk around and watch them die slowly, also, get pain in your hand from all the clicking

and Summon Faerie Dragons at Grandmaster Nature Magic.

Faerie Dragons can cast Confusion, which is devastating versus single stack opponents who are susceptible to the spell. Apart from those summons, you get Giant and Dragon Strength, which is very useful being a solo player. You need to stay a Bard, so be sure your Scouting and Nature are more leveled than your combat skill.

Finally... buy potions. if you can come across healing potions, stock in ROYALLY, potions of immortality dito. Also, considering learning Basic Life magic if there are any mage towers or monestaries you could loot, having some heals can make a lot of difference.

Depending on what items you come across, you can totally own the daylights out of opponents who sometimes are too strong for your armies, but doable as a solo Hero
