How so? It'll still be a pixel game that's subject to the laws of a pixel game, no? They'd need to somehow turn the game into a 3D game then. In 3D games different aspect resolutions can be adjusted by the field of view to give the proper image. I think this goes beyond 'HD remake'.

The closest thing we got to Heroes 3 remake was Heroes 5. It wasn't great game (it had its issues) but I liked it. IMO, what ubi could do is return to Heroes 5 and improve it (fix the ai, improve graphics, etc.). On the other hand, I really doubt that they will return to an older game, that will soon have complete open source remake (VCMI).

@Galaad Honestly, I would like it the other way around more  , though I wouldn't mind your solution implemented  Unfortunately, after Heroes 6 debacle, I doubt ubi can do anything good with HoMM franchise. My hopes are with VCMI, HotA and Eternal Essence (for H5 AI).

Of course it is, if you like solo games.
A remake would attract interest of many new people, and bring tons of opponents !
That's the main reason for such a remake i think. Also playing H3 with better HD graphics would surely be another good reason
And for people who said you would need several screen resolution for 2D graphics, that's just so wrong. You make the game in the highest resolution, and just use a program to convert it to other screen resolutions. They just need to be careful with the different text sizes and make it so that even in the lowest resolution (800x600 ?) it can still be read very well.
Edit: But making the game in just one resolution (1900x1200 for exemple) would certainly not have a big negative impact. Every graphic card nowadays can do 2D in such a resolution. Look at "Hearthstone", the new card game from Blizzard (it's a free game go DL it, i like it), it's without doubt designed for 1900x1200, because when you downscale it in the options, the graphics are simply downscaled directly from the max resolution. Which looks horribly to me, and prouve they didnt care much about lower resolutions. Doing what i said befor (using a program to downscale the graphics to produce several graphic sets, one for each resolution), would give a much much better result.

It'd be a shame to make a remake of one of their games though

Well, I'm not going to sign this partition. I think Unisoft is an awful company with a lack of respectble business morals, much like EA/Activision. If you truely understand their buniness models then you'd know nothing good will ever come of it, anyway.

I guess so, there are more than 50000 people wanting a new timesplitters game, yet, it's hard to find more than 1 or 2 of them at a time to play an online game

While I don't really think there is a need for a HD remake I still think the idea is pretty nice. It could help to draw more new players to heroes 3.
I am thinking something along the lines of Age of Empires II: HD Edition. Something where they have updated the multiplayer aspect and improved the graphics.
I'm sure something similar could be done for heroes 3.

Hmm, HD mod, HotA (look at their latest development screenshots), VCMI and WoG 3.59 are exactly aiming at a Heroes 3 remake.
In a quite considerate manner.
However, the Monkey Island Special Editions showed that a faithful commercial remake is possible.

Let me tell you how i found out about that petition.
Ubisoft made Might and magic X, wich i bought, and, beside the crazy hardware requirements for what it does on the screen, i really enjoyed.
So when they did send me a mail to answer some questions about the game, i answered them. It took me like 20 mns to answer it all.
One of their questions was: "Would you be interested in a remake of HoMM3 ?" , when i saw that, i was like OMG, could it be possible !??
So i entered "remake of heroes 3" in google search and unfortunatly didn't find something from Ubisoft, but i found that petition instead

What about a remake of HoMM 2?
Resolution aside, the game might get some polishing (Wait command in battles, for examples); plus you could add content in the form of additional towns as well ...

everything put on a computer screen is pixellated. you blow up any image, and you'll find that it is made entirely of some form of pixel. all 3d is, is a way to project those pixels out in order to surround different shapes.

Definetly signed!!!
Here's a list of what I expect:
-Graphics acceptable by any computer (Something like ArmA I or M&B Warband)
-All graphics be the 3d version of H3 ones. No changes please to the look of a Town, Map Object or Unit.
-All H3 gameplay features.
-Same multitude of sp maps as H3 Complete + all 3 Heroes Campaing sets + all Chronicles campaings(Last one with the Vori town).
-All H3 towns (Castle, Rampart, Tower, Necro, Inferno, Dungeon, Fortress, Stronghold and Conflux) + Vori
-Tower(for desert terrain - looks like Desert Tower VCMI mod)and a Vori Town(for snow terrain).
-Unique faces for each hero& customizable new heroes (similiar to the AoW III Wizards)
-Ability to mod the game.
-No stupid multiplayer restrictions.
