What about a remake of HoMM 2?

It could work, but let's not forget that H3 is the most known HoM&M

Well, the problem with a HoMM 3 HD REMAKE seems to be that HoMM 3 is still a "living" game; there is WoG which allows everyone to customize the game as people see fit, we also have the HotA "Expansion", plus there are the regular addons Armageddon's Blade and Shadow of Death - not to mention the plethora of user-made maps and mods.

Now, somehow - but maybe it's only me - it would be disappointing to gain a full-HD HoMM 3. And lose everything else in the process, especially when we do not talk about a WoG-kind of remake - meaning, ironing out the shortcomings of the game -, but "only" a HD-version of Restoration of Erathia Vanilla HoMM 3.

And THAT is, what made me think HoMM 2 might be better suited - HoMM 3 is STILL PLAYED and has a lot of extra content; HoMM 2 DOES NOT (the expansion is more or less a 4 campaigns plus an assortment of admittedly good maps, but there is this HoMM 2 Gold, and HoMM 2 Gold HD PLUS (making some slight changes with the combat and the skills, upping the ante there), would basically deliver a whole new game with a minimum in effort...
Right?

Well they should just hire fan modders that are at a professional level in term of quality work as part of their team and mix all the best features that has appeared in the franchise so far into some Ultimate Supa Sayajin Heroes of Might and Magic game.

@JJ: you bring a fair point about losing MODs and such.

I'm afraid no one would agree on which are 'the best features that has appeared in the franchise so far'

All Heroes III features + Heroes IV Hero System(improved, like wearing a specific weapon, armor or mount would appear on the battlefield). This would also require 8 creature slots in army(to keep the classical 7 units + 1 hero if the player wants).

That's why a remake is the best option. Take the basis of the game, maybe add some minor improvements, fix some bugs, graphics and add multiplayer support.

I think JJ hits the nail on the head. A HD remake wouldn't really add that much compared to what mods already offer.
Though there are some reasons as to why an HD remake would still be a good idea.
1. To draw new players.
2. Increasing the possibilities to mod the game. I'm sure there are many limitations to mod H3 at the moment that might as well go.
3. Enhancing the multiplayer aspect.(dunno have how big deal this is, since I don't play H3 online)

Though the name really bothers me, why HD? Heroes 3 already is gorgeous, right? :/

What about balancing?
I find it ridiculous that Inferno is balanced around the tedious Demon farming thing, which I honestly thought was an exploit and not an intended part of their strategy.

I haven't modded H3 that much, but it seemed to me that there might be more potential than in modding H5. of course, you have to master that ERM language.

i agree with jj. i would much rather see HoMM2 redone, as it has great creatures(and cooler artwork, i think); and bringing it up to par(or, beyond) HoMM3 graphics-wise, would reintroduce greater interest in the game as a whole. that way, we could still have the abundant HoMM3 platform additions to play with.

lol, we could have our cake, and eat it too.

not that the fan-made "Succession Wars" expansion isn't worth waiting to play. that's a pretty cool project.

At the same time ERM is a big barrier to modding, only a few people learn to use ERM.

Guys, is there really a need for remake? We've got one - it is Heroes 5. It's basically Heroes III with sweet graphic style and few improvements. At least that was the idea.

I cannot understand why people want new parts of Homm which will look like and just BE Heroes III with different number. Heroes saga need some kind of evolution, differences. If I like H3 I play H3. If I like H4 I play H4. Why H3 was such a success? Because it was DIFFERENT than H2...

LOL no.

H5 has a very different gameplay (Initiative), very different skill system (skillwheel), different magic system, PC performance issues, terrible and lagging AI, worse Map Editor, racials, 3D...

H5 and H3 are very different games, even if they share some basis (like tier 7 units)

No, that's completely NOT true.
It was HoMM 2 that was strategy game of the year for the then leading magazine, Computer Gaming World.
HoMM TWO paved the way, and HoMM 3 was such a big successm since everyone HAD PLAYED HoMM 2 and got WAY MORE with HoMM 3.

If you want a remake - it's HoMM 2 you should o, because that one you could easily ADD something in addition to resolution.

I Discovered the Heroes series with HoMM2, and i really loved it !
Even my nickname (Lord Riton) i have and use on many games/websites, came from Homm2. "Lord" because i liked a lot all the Lords that existed in Homm2, and "Riton" was the nickname of my favorit tennis player.

But when HoMM3 came out it was just such a fantastic game, i rarelly played Homm2 anymore affter i got HoMM3.

I would much preffer a homm3 remake, but of course would be happy with a homm2 remake already. Heck even with a homm1 remake, which i played too for a while, when i got it for free with a french magazine

No need of Homm4 to 6, and yes, i have them and played them all too.

@JJ

I imagine if an H3 HD remake is made, and it is only ROE to begin with, AND it is successful, remaking AB, SoD and maybe even WoG would not be too strenuous.

I would hope that any H3 remake might be compatible with old H3 maps. If not, I would, at least, be willing to remake mine.

Why would it be successful?
I mean, it's a big if, since it would gain sharper looks and lose all fan-made content at that point.

Doesn't make a lt of sense to me.
