But then again, they only have "a chance" to summon a lightning strike, and having to engage in melee means they'll get damaged too. Hence they are not necessarily the better choice.

You're right, thunderbirds aren't necessarily better than faeries. But I never meant to say that anyway. I just stated that 3 thunderbirds usually do a lot more damage than 2 faeries. And csarmi is right, the chance of lightning is 100 percent.

Sorry...my mistake.  It is 100%...but doesn't work on black dragon and some heroes or with special artifacts, that's why I get the impression of having a chance.

Thunderbird is still One of the best.  They look ever better when compared with champions.  (2000G, 2something, another 2 something, while thunderbird is just 1800G and 2 something, but stronger by any means.)  It can easily outnumber opponents.  And it is actually as strong as 3 vampires..

Just as I suspected. :-)

Thunderbird vs Champion

Thunderbird: 4-38% stronger, lightning strike, +3 move
Champion: first strike, charging attack

Thunderbird vs Feary Dragon

They are quite different, but I shall LMAO as your T-Birds sit confused while my Fearies keep casting lightning on them.

Thunderbird vs Vampires

T-Bird: 4.5 times stronger, lightning strike
Vampire: undead, no retal, +2 speed, touch

Thunderbird is much stronger, but that is not a surprise, since it is Level 4.

For the faerie dragon part, you keep them separated instead of one stack...same can be also done with the birds.  And still it's 2 vs 1.  Even 1 faerie dragon confuses a stack of 2 birds, another stack of birds can still fight...unless both dragons use confusion, but then they can't attack.

For champion...I think charge can be ignored when against flying creatures, as they generally are faster and have more movement, which means champions won't have a chance to have a distance between their opponent to have any real bonuses.

Feary Dragon - I have more movement on the overland map so it is I who determinates how many stacks will be, after you placed your troops. But it does not really matter - it was only a little illustration.

For the charging strike - my Champions will move at least 4-5 no matter what you do. That is some bonus, isn't it? BTW, your T-Bird has an initiative equal to the Champions, not more, and this is what matters.
