Well I'm glad you managed to broke your losing streak, but why ranked at all, lol! That's like a super uber rookie mistake to do, play ranked after a very long pause and no practice. Just go for normals until you wipe the floor with them for 10 games in a row, and then you're ready for ranked.

Edit: And where the snow are my immortals

Normals are even harder, I think. The problem with lower mmr ranked matches is that they are too irregular. Sometimes you have experienced and unlucky people trying to raise mmr again, and sometimes you have inexperienced people. I happened to be grouped with the latter most of the times. When it's the opposite, winning comes very fast.

In higher mmr matches, things feel a bit more balanced, thus you are much more responsible for details and working as a group.

I hate steam.....I wish I could just play dota without it. Do you guys ever get on and it just says "connecting to the dota 2 network" so you have to shut it off and restart steam. But when you close dota 2 and are trying to close steam it keeps saying "close dota 2 before shutting down steam", even though dota 2 is closed.

I have to bring up the task manager and close it down in the processes tab to be able to play. Then sometimes steam just wont open after that process and says I'm not connected to the internet......

I dunno, man, DotA 2 feels... unnatural. As soon as I get my computer fixed and all of that stuff, I'm gonna download it just to kick Baumi's ass. My brothers says it's impossible. What does he know?

To me DotA 1 felt unnatural when I switched back for a few games. Haven't done that ever since.

@Green
Steam's a pain in the ass sometimes. Just some days ago I couldn't open my compendium or search for games. Turned out it was Tuesday - maintenance day, lol. New update still not released, hats nowhere in sight. Volvo, pls.

Sometimes I get disconnected, only long enough for my team to lose the match. Then I'm freed back to them to get scolded.

Don't know how much you have played DotA 2, but you need some time to get used to it after DotA 1 and Warcraft 3 in general and when you get used to it(probably after 20 games or so) you will realize how clunky, slow and strange DotA 1 is and it will be quite hard to get back.

Stopped playing DotA 1 years ago, last one I've played was LAN 5v5 with 9 friends, long after DotA 2 was already released but most of them weren't playing DotA 2 and they insisted on this.

True.

I remember when I tried playing Dota 1 again, with my cousin, given she wasn't able to play Dota 2 (old notebook), trying to play with a character I was missing back then, Auroth the Winter Wyvern.

It was so odd. The many elements to make you aware of your surroundings are extremely important in Dota 2. In 1, I remember being attacked by the sniper when I was under the tower and not even realizing it, because I was simply used to the sounds, and small screen shaking, the overall effects informing that I was being attacked. ^^

And yesterday I had some awful games, God. When you are a HC and supp start farming in your lane, and you don't have your courier upped after 15 min of game, and you don't see wards anywhere until 20: that's bound to be a crappy situation. And there I was, playing weaver, upping courier and buying wards, to feel less distressed. The worst was playing the next game with the exact same random team.

Unexpected already happened, and that is the release of another patch after The Summit 3. If you noticed, games are quite different than on Summit 3, they are a bit slower, last longer, different heroes are picked, there are a lot of mid-game fights without that much pushing(at least less than before) because Mekansm is nerfed.

Right now 6.84c feels like a combination of 6.83 and 6.84.

Oh yes, in 6.84(and before to certain extent) VG was the best Chinese team by far, they simply got the number of every other Chinese team and played aggressive DotA. In 6.84c LGD wiped the floor with them 3-0, so patch was very significant.

Even though teams get used to it, the deathball strat is still real in this patch.

I haven't seen real deathball strat in one game after 6.84c, even though it probably still exists in a lot weaker variation.

There have been a lot of face rushes, farming games, split-pushing but grouping up at level 7-10, with Mekansm and pushing up to the base doesn't happen that often anymore.

I've also seen a lot less stomps that were happening in 6.84(and TI4 finals, sadly) where if one team starts pushing and getting kills they snowball out of control and there is 90% chance that they are going to win.

All of these games I've seen after 6.84c had quite a lot of kills on the both sides, and even if one side has great advantage, other team still has the chance. I've seen quite close games with the 20-30 kill difference, that doesn't happen with deathballs.

I happened to watch some deathballs lately, but as I don't or didn't watch that many games, I don't know how often they happened. I'm just getting a bit tired of seeing Gyrocopter more often than not.

The last matches I saw there was pretty much highs and lows from both teams, where the outcome was really hard to predict. Sometimes a team started crushing the other, and then, just like that, started getting slammed back.

Interesting thing is that with those new items since 6.84, some other heroes are being picked up, many of them heroes I like to play and that I always wanted to check on how professionals played with them.

Yeah I really hope the deathball is not the main go-to strat for the big teams.  It's weird that at some stage between TI4 & TI5, that lategame hard-carry 4-protect-1 were in vogue at some point, potentially luring players like BurNIng to unretire & then for game to evolve into deathball again after the troll-sniper times would be totally Agh .

There, I said it publicly, so hope that it doesn't come true...

I wonder if the power creep makes it hard for IceFrog to balance teamfight vs split-push vs deathball vs turtle strategies
because since everything gets more powerful, it's kinda like balancing an object on a pyramid?
(FYI power creep = Average power of the heroes and items are slowly increasing over time because generally the weaker ones are buffed to match the stronger ones, instead of the other way around)

-- also feel sad for Black^ as mouz seems to be eliminated (but I also really hate pro's ideas of farm distributions with very poor or low level non-farm dependent heroes compared to carries/mid.)

Na`Vi are a lot better, I am impressed(even though ArtStyle feeds like hell, as usual). They are always having these crazy games where they are losing and suddenly make some amazing plays and get back on track.

Hopefully they keep playing like this, it would be sad not to see them at the TI5.
