A surprise from Shelly Garcia, Heroes 2 artist
A few days ago, I met the artist from NWC who made the creature sprites for Heroes II, Shelly Garcia. She and I have joined forces and with a friend of mine, are now working on a project for an RPG which will emulate the original artistic style of Heroes 2, and play in many ways like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
Here is what our wonderful artist has made so far as of May 16th:

"As an artist for Magic 2, I was fortunate to work with many talented artists and for a great company to create a game we were all proud of. I was pleasantly surprised when approached by Ryan Smith asking if I might be interested in working on project that would provide the look in the original artistic style, but different enough to enhance and continue that same enjoyable gaming experience, I jumped at the opportunity and hope everyone enjoys the end results." -- Shelly Garcia
This is not going to be a Turn-based Strategy game like Heroes 2 is, but if you've played Castlevania, Terraria, or any games like those, that's basically what we're going for.
More details to come soon. 
UPDATE: We have a Patreon page set up. This site is where we'll post updates and information first. This is going to be an exciting year for everyone!

We don't have either yet which belong to the game, specifically. However, there will be a Patreon page set up soon, which is the closest thing we will have to a website until an official one is set up.

I believe Tracy Iwata is responsible for all static concepts of Heroes 2. Or by "who made the creature sprites for Heroes II" you meant animation?

when I visited live HOMM3 championship of C.I.S. countries in Minsk in May 2014, I saw that 3-4 people out of 35-40 were playing HOMM2 multiplayer sessions. Still alive!
