Pathfinder Horror Game

So I'm going to be running a Pathfinder game during my free time this year, and I was wondering if some of you guys would be willing to test out the "horror" section of the game. Your characters would start out at level 7, with full wealth by level (23,500 gold). Every class besides Wizard, Druid, Summoner, Psion, Tactician, Sorcerer, Cleric and Alchemist are available for use (go to the PF srd to see the other ~90 classes available to you.) I'm hoping for 3-4 players... Which means that I'm going to hope that 3-4 people that play D&D/ Pathfinder are still in HC...

And we have our players!

Kareeah_Indaga: Nathanial the Paladin
AlkarRahn: Feather the Throwing Weapons Specialist
Dagoth_Gares: Ciaran the Noble Savage
Geny: Vorbrin the Exquisitor

Fate Points Remaining: 3/3

The roll20 map

Blessings:

The Blessing of Creation
-In a zone of Weak Creation, the blessed creature gains a +1 untyped bonus to their armor class, saving throws and attack bonus. In a zone of Strong Creation, this bonus is increased to +2 and the creatures gain Fast Healing 2 (so you heal 2 damage/ round, aka 2/6 seconds).

-In a zone of Weak or Strong Void, the blessed creature has no modifications.

-In a zone of Weak Oblivion, the blessed creature has a -1 untyped penalty to their damage rolls, saving throws and attack bonus. In a zone of Strong Oblivion, this penalty increases to -2, and the blessed creature is dealt an additional 2 damage from all sources.

It's a roleplaying game in the vein of D&D that spawned the fantastic Pathfinder Adventure Card Game.

It's basically D&D 3.5... With edits and all around improvements to everything. It's a bit more limited when it comes to classes/ spells/ resources to draw on, but that's because it's a bit younger (and a bit more balanced because of it).

Dagoth, I can roll dice on Giant in the Playground and post links to each set of rolls. Also, Kareeah, I would be MORE than happy to have you with me! DG and I should be able to explain how to make things if you have any questions (PM us if you need to).

Oh, also, something to help make character sheets easier (and something to help me keep you guys honest), here is an online resource called Mythweavers. It's a free database where you can store 80bajillion character sheets for basically anything, and it has plenty of helpful little calculators and stuff to make entering information and making sheets for new players easy. Please send me a link to your sheet when you complete it!

So then, do I have you two? (Also, DG, I'm using Pathfinder because it's a little harder to break and my group is a bunch of absolute munchkins, so PF beign a bit more new-DM friendly... I'm hoping to keep from beign overwhelmed)

Since I'm starved for RPs, I'm actually considering this, even though I never really played D&D or Pathfinder and am not a big fan of number crunching and such.

One question: how much free time is this supposed to take from me?

@Geny: This will be play by post, so it shouldn't take much time at all... however, we'll also hope that you stay in it to the end, because we soooort of need you around after you join XD And again, as with Kareeah, I can help you with whatever you need in character creation and such.

@OD, glad to have you with us! I think that brings us up to four players too, so build your character sheets and post them here! If you have any questions (class suggestions are included) feel free to ask and communicate with me!

Oh, and the normal traps mechanic is thrown out. Basically, get a trap finder and roll perception, and I'll tell you if there is a trap in the room (the better you roll, the more I tell you). And then it's just a simple logic puzzle to not set off the trap, or to disable it. Sounds good? (Otherwise, I'll have to deal with stupidly horribly balanced traps, and no one wants that >.> )

Oh, also, I'm going to be using a few custom monsters... I suggest that at least one of you guys take Knoledge: Planes, Nature, Arcana and Religion, so that you can identify things as "Fight" or "Run very very fast" material.

Uh, I may need some help on what limitations characters have.  I have not played the actual Pathfinder RPG and I suspect it is quite a bit more complicated than the Adventure Card game.

@Geny, I'm not sure that *I* will be posting on a daily basis, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Also, you can find the races and classes here. I would suggest sticking to the core races and classes, since those tend to be the simplest/ easiest to master. Psionics are also open, if you want to check them out (it's basically magic with mana), but remember that a few classes are banned, so you don't have to really worry about them all that much.

Also, for atributes we will be rolling 4 six sided die, and taking the best of them for each stat (str, dex, con, int, wis and cha are what these are for.) Roll the dice six times and post them here, along with what class you want to be, and I'll help you from there.

@OD, most classes will tell you what limitation they have, but if you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a HCM. Otherwise, just read the core rules section and your class.

Yes, I'm in. And gnomes you can do whatever you want with the traps, I'm not likely to notice in any case.

What kind of characters do you recommend? By which I mean, are we hardened veterans in our chosen profession or are we just starting out? Do we have alignment restrictions (does PF have alignment? *runs off to check*)? How much backstory do you want from us (and how much backstory on the world are you going to give us)? Do we know each other to start with or are we meeting in-game? Any restrictions on race?

Fair warning: there will be more questions, but I'll leave you with just these for now.

Level 7 means we're hardened badasses. If it's intended we stick together, alignment should be non-evil. I recommend a caster class if you're okay with managing spells. if that sounds as if it sucks, try making a barbarian that uses two-handed weapons or a ranger that shoots with a bow.

EDIT: anything else should be answered by Gnomes.
EDIT 2: What's the setting?

Thanks Dagoth, that helps. Does anyone else have preferred classes? I have some ideas, but I don't want to accidentally double-up on party slots or play something that would clash violently with the rest of you.

EDIT:
Ooo, gnomes, how are we dealing with combat rounds? One of the biggest problems we have on this forum is people not being able to post at ideal times, are we going to have a system in place? (Post-by deadlines, AFK party members get pushed to the end of the initiative, monster throws a pie in your face if you don't post at least twice a week?)

They're generally considered the easiest to break classes, I think. Though, I think alchemist and psion is balanced.

You will be tracking your food, traps are different, you do not have to keep track of your ammuntion unless you use a gun (and even then, only keep track of bullets, no one wants to deal woth powder), and on the subject of guns, there is no misfire chance for rifles or firearms... Which is a huge buff for Gunslingers.

Also, there is a relatively good chance that you might get a custom creature subtype, which will generally fit the setting.

@Kareeah: You will be hardened veterans... To a degree. This will be the point where you would start fighting actual dragons, maybe a mind flayer, and start to get beyond the point where simple bandits will cause you any trouble... However, this will be a "horror level" game, so most of the time the monsters you encounter will be drinking that nightmare fuel and you will have to use special tactics and the environment to deal with them, a straight up fight is not recommended. You're at the level where you're fresh enough to realize this fact, but still badass enough to wade through the armies of your average necromancer.

Most classes do not have a strict alignment requirement, though Paladins and Monks are exceptions to this rule. For the most part, you will want to be some kind if good or neutral, and if you want a personal suggestion, I find Neutral Good (the "pure" good, basically if it seems like it's morally right you will do it) and Chaotic Good (the renegade desperado style of good, think Robin Hood) are typically the easiest to role play.

I will tell you that you guys came from an alternate version of Faerun (one of the most popular D&D settings, and i believe it's the basis for Pathfinder as well. (I do know that it's the setting for Baldur's Gate...) In this version of Faerun, technology is a bit more advanced (to the point where efficient guns and such now exist), and a faction of the plane called the Void invaded ~300 years ago. It caused a nightmarish war that only ended when the other two factions came in as well and assisted the mortal armies. The fragments and survivors of the various Void forces are still being hunted to this day. As for your party, you just defeated a particularly obnoxious being known as a Trapmaster, and were afterwords drawn into a still-open one way portal to the Void. Everything beyond this is homebrew and my brain child, as well as spoilers...

You will start with everyone, and you guys should know each other (and just went through trap hell with one another). Beyond that, there is no requirement for getting along or coordinating your backstories.

For race, I would suggest sticking with either the core or psionic races, but you can ask about a particular race not on those lists. (Be sure to link me to them)

For combat rounds, if a player is going to be gone for a strech of time, then they can hand off control of their character (in combat only, no roleplaying a character that isn't yours!), and if an in-combat reply isn't made for 3 days, then we will send them to the end of the initiative meter. (If they are the last person to act, then I'll do my best to properly auto them)

@OD, because those classes tend to snowball to the point where a DM cannot challenge the party anymore. That does not fit a horror setting so much, as you might imagine...

And finally: @DG again, the alchemist is just barely below the wizard and the summoner in terms of raw game breaking power. The psion is about as strong as a sorcerer, as far as raw power is concerbed, and can burn down any casting class before they can throw anything back/ counter every spell a wizard/ sorc can chuck out all day long. Sure, they burn out rather quickly themselves, but a psion is still really freaking strong...
