The Expansion... Official News
From the Gamespy Forum, the Town Crier:
Russian fan site Heroic Corner has a basic description of the expansion pack in the work for Heroes of Might and Magic IV. Entitled "The Astral World", the expansion will include a new town that will rely solely on magic (the opposite of the all-might Stronghold town). The new town will be able to build all 5 mage guilds, and all its creatures will be equipped with spell books and be recruited from a single structure. More details are available on the Russian site, but unfortunately my translation skills are limited; however, we can expect more information to be available shortly.
The concept sounds boring and unimaginative, and strangely similar to the Conflux Town in Armageddon's Blade. It is also still early to start talking about an expansion pack, as the much needed patch is not even officially announced. Could this be a bad April's Fool prank? I guess we will have an answer soon.

I went and saw it for myself. Here are a couple other things:
It also says that this town will be a new layer. So in addition to subterranean and the normal level, there will be this new "astral layer" up in the sky that the astral castles will only be able to be on! (Astral castles will not be allowed on the normal or subterranean levels)
There will be only certain enter points as w/ subterranean, and any armies that come from above in the astral will be have some kind of terrain penalty, and MUST have a hero with them!
It sounds like another overpowered town. I liked the conflux, but I wonder to see how they'll do this one. Suggestions for units anyone?

I think/hope it's just a stupid joke. You got to be honest, how can such catle lose a battle? they got every single spell there is... humpf... I really hope it's a joke!

How could they make another STUPID good based town?
Another town FULL of humans.
The last good creatures are
Valkyrie/Gremlin/Sphinx
I guess it's a mistake...
And I hope because with this town the drows will never see the light of day.

Do Russians do April Fools as well?
I didn't know that.. But assuming it was real news (which I doubt because it's too early to announce expansions and it would be on english sites as well).. While I agree that it is as dull and unimaginative as the Conflux, I guess you gotta give them points for trying. It's not that easy to come up with something original and hard to predict.
I doubt they will introduce a new alignment because it would upset the balance of the other 5, so the new town would either be another might town, or.. unimaginatively, all magic based (or a combination of all 5 magics). Perhaps it could be a town with no alignment restrictions, and you can cast magic of all towns. I don't know, but it's hard to do something groundbreaking.
The conflux is the epitome of lacklustre imagination.

Well it wasn't a particularly funny one..
They are usually done whacky so that the moment you hear of it, you instantly know it's a joke.. such as War3 dropping a race. Everyone knows it will never happen.
However, an expansion to HOMM3 that unimaginatively adds a town of pure magic, doesn't sound too unlikely to actually end up happening. If that news was revealed by a non russian site in a couple of months time, it would actually be believable.

Just read this thread title again.. "Official News". If it was official, wouldn't it be on 3D0's web page, instead of some russian site? I guess that answers that then.
