GERMANIC, SLAVIC AND SCANDENAVIAN MYTHOLOGY
- Vila (Wila)(Storm Nymph)
- Vampire(Groupname for many creatures)
Vila/Vile is a (general) name for a fairy-like and spirit-like beings, not for specific type of vila. However, there are different types of these fairies: vile oblakinje (cloud fairies), vile planinkinje (mountain fairies), etc.
Vampire is just a single creature, which can come into existence in several ways: if a body of a man is not buried, if a cat (or some other animal, I don't remember which one) jumps over the body of the deceased, etc.
Just a small correction.

No, such long posts, or lists in this case, are rarely deemed worthy of the time I spent reading them in retrospect, so I rarely bother anymore.

It depends on the topic.

I think they're good lists and a lot of effort has been put into them (if not just copy pasted). So give the guy some props will ya?

That is your loss.
Anyway the Vila I know (and like) comes from the game Van Helsing where the creatuers where storm harpies, blue/indigo harpies with wind and storm powers.
I liked those Vila and I really adore the name. Not always do people take the 100% accurate version of the myth.
Vampires are a group of creatures in my game-world, there are many different vampires like Vetala, Adze, Asonbonsam, Strigoi and Moroi.

I've copy pasted this list from my own computer, but its my own list, I made it myself for my game project. And Thanks :-) glad you appriciate the effort!
And lol that the two persons that are lazy and rude get titles like Promising and responsible...
While people that are more open to long posts aren't getting such titles.

Don't let such titles fool you. They are only indication of how many posts someone has made over the years. Red Stars are more important, as they reflect quaility-points awarded by the mods.
But let's get back to your list.
I'm not denying what Stevie said is true. You likely put in a lot of time and effort researching and compiling that extensive list. Which is praiseworthy.
However, that does not make reading the list any more usefull to me. I have read many such lists in the past and have come to the following conclusions.
Most of the names mean nothing to me and conjure up no mental image. Another batch of names would already be familiar to me and listing things you already know is usefull for memorising things but not much else. The last category of names are those few gems that would spark my interest and lead me to research it. However I am not part of any creative project ATM, so they would be of little use to me at present. And unless I can find a picture of it pretty enough to go into my collection, I will likely have forgotten it by the time it's usefull to me. And doing the research now, will take out half the fun of doing the research when I am in need of it.
So in the end, reading extentensively compiled list ends up being simply a timesink for me.

You said this, which is fine if you only mean it for yourself, but other people can learn from this list, as most people only know about werewolves, vampires, minotaurs and other such overused beasties, this list can teach them about Batibat, Enenra, Cherufe, Empusa and Suiko for example.
Its just a matter of typing the name into Google, search for the wiki or a monster site to get info on the creature, and if your not into info you can put them into google pictures most of them have pictures or deviant-people that draw a picture or two about the creatures.
Some like the Tsemaus (a shark-like creature from Native American believes with a very sharp dorsal fin on its back which it uses to cut people in half with) are very difficult to find a picture from, but there is some info on the net.
The thing with your reply that bothered me the most is that you spoke as if everybody should feel the same about my list, but because only you don't like it and feel its usefull in many ways doesn't mean everybody should think that way.
And the lazy guy just hates scrolling, which is his problem, or he should reconsider buying a better PC if my long lists make his webpage slow...
Some forums have this

system which makes it easy to hide long lists and if you want to read them you can click it... Is that possible on this forum?

I was speaking purely for myself. And for future reference, I am always speaking for myself and myself only unless stated otherwise.
And I have not noticed since that I forgot the "I" in the sentence and have since adjusted it.

hey, it wasn't my intention to be rude. My apologies in that case.
As for your posts, my complain comes from the difficulty of reading the thread with such long posts between others, it's very hard to follow the thread with several long posts in one page, that's what annoys me.
I wish there was a spoiler tag so this could be avoided

The lists might be more useful if each creature name was linked to to relevant wikipedia article (wikipedia provides its own list of mythical cryptids, but without organisation except by alphabetical order).
As for the lists being annoying, buy a mouse and scroll through them.

I used cursory reading on it and found many interesting names for mythological creatures. So a great list imho
