I'd add Muller and Neuer.

Messi scored 4 goals in group stage (against Nigeria, Bosnia and Iran, LOL) and did very little in all 4 playoffs matches. He wasn't among the best players of the tournament. He had a lot of influence in GS results, but on gameplay...walking most of the time

Well that's it then. Nice performance from the German golden generation. Looking forward to the upcoming games in the Soviet Union and Ottoman Empire.

There might be an addition two brackets added by 2018. Game's gonna go on till Autumn

Neuer had one great game, Muller worked hard but didn't play amazingly, I would say Messi was good every time he touched the ball and for me was the best player. That aside, Germany deserved to win for me, aside from Messi Argentina's fab 4 just didn't show up, Di Maria got injured as soon as he started to play decently, Higuain missed chances he normally would score and didn't really contribute, and Aguero did nothing all WC. Sad, but there it was.

Yeah, Golden Boot, Ball, and Glove all went to the right people. It really shouldn't be surprising that Messi got Golden Ball. It's not based on how many goals you get against teams that don't cover their players. So, so many players that he successfully threaded through, often 1 v 2 or 3 or 4. If you took all the footage of his action this WC and played it in a successive chain, it would (hopefully) shut everybody up here that is complaining about it. 4 goals and a great assist is hardly bad either. Either him or Ronaldo were the most likely outcomes, but Portugal flopped early on (and Ronaldo with them). The fact that top tier teams like Netherlands had to constantly man mark him with 2 or 3 defenders at a time to try to neutralize his goal shots speaks for itself. It was even worse against Switzerland. Germany wasn't as focused on him, but that's because Germany is godlike at possession and there's no need worrying about a guy that doesn't have the ball to begin with. There's not really another team out there besides Spain that can afford that luxury.

Oh, so many pages only for the final

Congrats to the Germans. Deserved title - the most consistent team among the 32.

We say goodbye to World Cup with two faces - very scoring first stage and not so (almost boring) second stage. It seems the football is geting more and more defensive. Anyway the best team won it so we're looking forward Russaia.

FIFA made the right decision, don't question it. You don't understand the contemporary football. Players like James, Roben, Mueller etc. can't reach even close to Messi's level. I can't understand why was he so embarrassed... why?
I'm really wandering who pick the best player - the journalists, Adidas, FIFA or... wait a second, Adidas is a sponsor...

There is a committee who elects those awards, no journalists or coaches.

But I may doubt your opinion about Messi and the reason why he was elected. Messi is an outstanding player. Period. But if that should be the reason for handing out that award, he would gain it everytime he participates in a WC

What did he do for Argentine to reach the finals? Scoring 4 goals in group stage. And the other 4 games? pfff.....

I even think Mascherano would have deserved it more than Messi, when it's about an argentinian player...

Kroos didn't play well yesterday, so wouldn't have been deserved for him either.
Lahm was ok yesterday, but I don't think he played an outstanding worldcup this time.
Hummels was great all games, but yesterday, Messi showed him his limits.
Müller would have deserved it, when he would have scored yesterday, but he was chosen on second place from the FIFA, that's ok. Robben third.
Neuer wasn't elected for the final 10 players, otherwise he could have won and deserved the MVP award.
Schweinsteiger showed an incredible fighting spirit yesterday. He should have won the "Man of the match trophy" by far.

Now it's 3 times in a row europian teams won the WC....what's wrong with the south-americans?

Müller was very active on every match he played, a constant danger for the rival defense.

And Neuer had more than one great game, yesterday he was excellent.

Best player election is awkward this time, because deserved WC is the best TEAM that doesn't come with a superstar - there is no standout player. Yesterday, Schweinsteiger, the "quarterback", was outstanding, but not as a football genius, but instead in his will to win and fighting spirit, while Götze scored superbly.
