"As you wish, Exquisitor. I will prepare a bookmark for your use when you have finished with it."

Nathanial bowed and returned briefly to his writing materials, where he fussed with parchment and ink and dug around in his pack for a while before returning to Vorbrin about half-an-hour later. In his hands was a piece of paper cut small and folded such that it could fit into the book without its edges protruding out of the pages if one wished. Nathanial was holding it rather curiously, too; broad side facing Vorbrin so the Exquisitor could tell that it had something written on it:

Do not open me.

This was scribbled in chalk, which could easily be smeared away and erased if one wished.

Vorbrin took the bookmark with interest and raised an inquisitive eyebrow at Nathaniel. Then he remembered he wears a full-face mask and lowered his brow.

"That's the most complex bookmark I have laid my eyes on, Brother Nathaniel."

The Paladin's expression was perfectly serious. "I pray it will prevent you from losing your page, Exquisitor." Nathanial bowed and took his leave, preparing for sleep.

There were at least three layers of magic around the bookmark, which rather thoroughly hid whatever was contained within it. The journal itself still has a slightly magical aura around it, but it seems to have been rendered inert... relatively harmless by now, if it could have ever been harmful.

Den appears to still be resting at this time. His particular destructive aura seemed to slowly be repairing itself, and while the dragon likely would't be back to full strength by the morning, he should be feeling quite a bit better. The void walker, on the other hand, is still rather injured, and from her baleful glance sent the inquisitor's way, it doesn't seem likely that she will be forgetting who it was that had damaged her this much any time soon.

A snarl crosses Asper's face at the question, and he answers, "Some beings deserve to remain eradicated. That dragon being here means only trouble is coming... He will lie to you, manipulate you and abandon you if it serves his purposes, So do not be surprised when it happens." Shaking his head, Asper suddenly turns to face in a different direction, his eyes narrowing and that frown becoming more pronounced. "... One more question. I wish I could answer that in more detail, but there isn't time."

Feather stands, thinking for a few seconds, then the question comes to her. "What do you mean there isn't time?"

The trapmaster glances at her for a second, before returning to his inspection of the underbrush, those black eyes of his glancing through everything carefully. "... The last time I was here, I was welcomes as a hero by many who walk the void. Now, after returning home, there is not a single being who wouldn't give everything they have just one chance to kill me. To save your reality... to save them all, I did what I had to do." Tapping the top of the hound's head, causing it to fade back into the darkness, Asper whispered, "May Nulles forgive me, but I did what I had to do..." Looking back to Feather, the storm beginning to pick up and obscure him from sight, the trapmaster said, "Run. Run back to your group. I am being hunted, not you, and you must escape and survive if you want to find your way home. And I am sorry that my selfish desire to return dragged you into this... now go!" He says in a whisper that can barely be heard above the sounds of rain, the dark outline of his form disappearing once more, and leaving Feather alone... for now.

Listening to the trap master, Feather tried to see if there is some hidden motive behind what he is saying.(got a 16 on sense motive) As he vanished, she ran up and tried to stop him from doing just that.

"Darn it! Well, that wasn't exactly an answer to the question I asked!" She looked around the area(perception 10) and sighed. "But it might be useful to know anyway..."

Following Trap Master's advice, Feather started running back to the cave.

There was quite a lot that the trapmaster obviously wasn't telling, though as to what exactly, well, there were just too many possibilities for Feather to really pinpoint just one. However, running forward to the position where she had last seen him, Feather would notice something glittering in the light of thunder... a dagger. A peculiar thing that seemed to glow in a gentle silver light as the rain fell around it. Perhaps a gift, or maybe just something dropped and forgotten in the trapmaster's haste to flee. Either way, it was somewhat obvious that it was from him.

Feather would find that making her way back to the cave is a bit more difficult, as more and more rain falls around and impedes movement. Lightning bolts crackle, causing some trees to collapse in her path, and her map seems to be flickering a bit. However, make it back she does -and before the river has completely flooded too!- just in time for her to notice Den looking straight at her. And then the faceless dragon curls back up, apparently deciding to sleep instead of interrogate her on her whereabouts... for now.

Feather would soon be relieved of her watch duties, and nothing more would disturb her slumber tonight.

Vorbrin walked to the cave entrance with the journal in hand. He planned to examine it more carefully on his shift. He approached Feather.

"How was your shift, sister Feather? Anything I should be on the lookout for?"

"Nothing as of yet." Standing while stretching her arms, she turned to Vorbrin. "I thought I saw...something out there. I thought it might be one of our friend's friends, but it was nothing. Well, good luck in you having nothing either. I'm going to go get into something a little less wet before getting some rest." Feather headed off to find some dry clothing to change into, and then get some rest.

"A moment if you will be so kind, sister. I could not help but notice that you are dripping wet even though it is relatively dry inside the cave. Did you by chance go scouting around?"

On first impression there seemed to be no underlying tone to Vorbrin's question. Then again, there rarely was.

Vorbrin felt that Feather wasn't telling the whole story, but filed that for later. He settled down near the cave entrance and took out the journal they acquired from the void walkers. He observed the bookmark given to him by Nathaniel once again then set at aside. Handling magic objects was not his specialty and decided not to temper with it. Instead he opened the journal itself and leafed through it to see if it would react to him in any way.

The journal itself doesn't react to the new touch, though he does see the last response... in complete gibberish-writing sphinx-y cryptic-as-it-can-get chicken scratch. Well, to him at least. The final void walker is still awake at this point, watching the exchange between him and Feather without blinking, and she stares at that journal incredibly pointedly... as if wanting to stand up and take it from him.

Vorbrin wiped the writing of the bookmark with one hand, hiding it behind the journal so that the voidwalker wouldn't see what he's doing. Then he put the bookmark inside the journal and closed it.

He turned to the voidwalker as if he just noticed that she's awake. He gave her a little wave, put the journal on the ground and came over to her.

"Hello, friend." He said as he crouched beside the captive, "I am Vorbrin. Might I have the honor of your name?"

Geny said:
"Hello, friend." He said as he crouched beside the captive, "I am Vorbrin. Might I have the honor of your name?"

Glaring at Vorbrin, just a bit of a hiss (as if from a broken pipe releasing steam) on the void walker's lips, she blinks and lowers her head, giving a sigh. Almost as if struggling to form the words, as if she hasn't really done it before, the void walker says, "... I suppose there is nothing I could do to resist, so I might as well be civil before you dispose of me." Glancing from Vorbrin to the book, and then back up to him, she says something that sounds like a gentle breeze of air. Noticing the lack of incomprehension in the dwarf's eyes, she adds, "Or in the... degenerated tongue you speak, I suppose you would call me Autumn."
