((Updated sheet with Blessing of Creation buffs. Poke me if anything looks off.))

"... but before I go, I have a favor to ask of you."

"Noble One, I can think of no task we could perform in our current circumstances that could possibly assist one such as yourself, but by all means ask. If we are able to help you in turn I am willing to do what I may, as I am sure are my companions." This last accompanied a querying glance at aforesaid companions, at which point Nathanial noticed Feather gesturing into the entrance of the revealed cave.

The ancient dragon turns to look at the smaller black being as it slinks out from the cave, starring warrily at the party and keeping a bit closer to the massive mountain-like behemoth. This newer, smaller dragon seems to be completely devoid of feature or even matter, the air and earth below it seemed to twist and crack around its body, and it gives off such an aura of terrible wrongness that even Nathaniel, blessed by Mystra to be without fear, would feel a cold chill run down his spine. As well, this creature was never seen in the Void Wars, thus it never appeared in Nathaniel's notes, so Nathaniel has no idea what this creature is.

"I need you to help this creature." The dragon of creation said, after waiting for the black draconic-shadow creature to stop moving. "I know that he is a little... Unsettling, but trust me when I say this; That is from his curse, not his nature." The creation dragon almost sounds like he is pleading with you as he says that. "If you can look past it, then please... I ask that you protect this one for as long as you can, and bring him with you for as long as you can travel."

((Nice way to be proactive with the knowledge checks Kareeah, but this one is limited to Know (Arcane) like a dragon normally would be due to plot. That said, go ahead and roll your dice to move your mice! Hopefully nobody gets hurt...))

Personally, Feather didn't want to have this creature traveling along with them. All she wanted was to head back to the material plane, and back home. However, if the others thought it acceptable to have it along with them, she'd tolerate it too.

At least the reason for the dragon's generosity is now clear. But what happened to that creature?, thought Vorbrin as he watched the shadowy dragon.

"I do not mind the creature's appearance. Grumbar weighs people's thoughts and actions, not their looks. But what has happened to him and why does he need our protection?"

Ciaran took off her gloves and put on her punching irons. "Don'tsth thou worry about protecting this one." She said as she winked. She then flexed her arms. "No one hath ever beaten me in a fair fight. He willeth enjoy the most potent of protections this side of the wherever we roameth. Erm... Lo!" she boasted with a great smile on her face. She did a quick left jab, followed by a strong right hook to show the dragon of creation she wasn't anyone to mess with.

"And... I'm sure nothing will ever beat me, as long as I have my companions by my side." As she said that, she blushed and moved slily towards Nathaniel. "Here, Nathaniel," she said as she handed back the gloves she was given earlier, "they came in really handy. I appreciate it. And like... If you ever need any help or anything, not that I don't think a strong, handsome guy like you would need any help or anything! Er, Look, before I say anything more embarassing: I just have your back, okay?" She garbles out, holding the gloves in front of her.

Nathanial could no longer feel proper fear; this was something else. This was the teeth-gritting sensation of fingernails on slate, the loathing he felt for suffering caused callously, the sense of a storm brewing overhead. Wrong. But their benefactor had taken no issue with the creature's presence, so Nathanial silently called on Mystra to guide him. ((Detect Evil. If the little Schrödinger beastie is Evil, my Paladin is going to have problems what with the whole can't-voluntarily-travel-with-Evil-people clause.))

((Assuming the little one ISN'T showing up as Evil, I continue thus: ))

Nathanial got down on one knee and held out a hand to the little creature, trying to appear unthreatening. "Little" was a relative term, as he was perhaps half its size if that. But it was certainly frightened.

"It's all right little one," he told it gently, pitying it. "You have no need to fear. And see? My companions know it as well. Can you speak? Do you have a name?"

((If it IS Evil, then Nathanial's eye color inverts. Unless the Dungeonmaster objects.))

((Edit: Ciaran's inner ninja strikes again! ))

Nathanial took his gloves back from Ciaran and bowed. "I thank you for your consideration, my lady."

Shocingly, despite going over every bit of knowledge he had on dragons and the like trapped in his head, Vorbrin... could not identify what this one was. It had never been seen on the prime material, at least not by anyone that shared anything, and while the appearance was close to something he had heard about in rumors and legends, it lacked the stars to be a Void dragon. It also wasn't attacking the party for their magical items, which Void dragons were notorious for, and which was likely a good thing. ((Unfortunately, nat 20's on skill checks don't auto-succeed... just like nat 1's don't auto-fail on skill checks.))

When the cone of divine detection energies passed over the "small" dragon, who gives off the impression of being just slightly annoyed by the whole experience, there is no red aura that would indicate that he is evil... though that does nothing to the unnatural feeling that just pours off of the dragon. The black absence of a dragon moved his head back from Nathaniel's hand when the paladin stretched it out, as if he didn't want to be touched, and he hissed lightly at the paladin. The impression that the dragon was actually a cat in disguise would cross Nathaniel's mind for just a second, before the dragon gave off a... more unsettling growl. "Mortal. If you enjoy having your forearm, I would suggest keeping it away from every part of me."

-I would suggest listening to him. Even if it wasn't an invasion of personal space, the nature of his curse makes physical contact... ill advised.- The dragon of Creation cautioned, turning his head to the side to give another deep-throated cough. He gave Ciaran's antics another little chuckle, nodding gratefully at her, and turned to stare at Vorbrin. -What happened was... well. He was betrayed by the creations that he trusted most. They...- The elder dragon stopped speaking when the smaller dragon lifted his wing and began to speak himself.

"I was subjected to a ritual of unnaming, had my body purged from time and history, and my magics and powers stolen by my... prodigal son." The dragon growled, obviously less than pleased with his dear, sweet child. "... And yet, here I am. Despite the best they could subject me to, I survived, and I am trying to reclaim what is rightfully mine, restore the balance... and to become whole again." Setting his wing back down, the dragon sat and shuffled, cracking the ground into a perfect seat for any dragon of his size and getting comfortable. "I know what my presence feels like, and I know why most of you are nervous and wary of me... even your divine protections do not protect you from that feeling that what cannot and should not exist stands in front of you, and from the terror of staring at pure nothingness. Most mortals just assume the worst and try to kill me on sight or flee from me... I must thank you for the fact that none of you have done either." Nodding and sighing gratefully to the party, the smaller dragon said, "You may call me Den... and I suppose that I will be joining you, if you will allow me. Though... I must insist on no touching. Things try to stop existing when they touch me, and I would not recommend the experience."

Vorbrin would feel that both of the dragons are telling the truth, and that augmented with the black's alignment being confirmed suggested that you did not have to be on guard with this dragon... not yet, at least.

((And yet you still had the Nat 1 on the skill check to get down bite Geny last time. Consistency, gnomes!))

Nathanial took Den's unnecessary rudeness in good stride, retracting his arm. ((Wasn't under the impression he was that close.)) He took the opportunity to put his gloves back on.

The Paladin listened with interest nevertheless. He had some trouble picturing something able to threaten a creature that would wipe whatever touched it out of existence; almost as much as he did with the fact that in spite of this facet of his condition Den hadn't immediately plummeted downwards on contact (and subsequent eradication) of the ground.

(Perhaps the creature had some control over it? Or perhaps he was levitating, and only trying to give the impression of being in contact with the ground? Nathanial resisted the urge to check.)

Though, the Paladin reasoned, someone had apparently done that to Den in the first place, so perhaps it was not so surprising...

Nevertheless, as the Exquisitor wished to be otherwise occupied, the Paladin felt it would be prudent to learn more about their new charge, and the simplest way to do that would be to ask. Nathanial remained standing this time, as his previous attempt to make the creature feel at ease had been taken so poorly.

"You mentioned restoring a balance?" he queried politely. "A balance of what, precisely?"

"That gets me thinking that maybe there's something that can kill Den without punching him. Or maybe! Maybe something can punch Den so hard he will come to exist again and die due to the immense power of that punch. This is like one of these old philosophical qua- qaudri- quandr- questions! where like: "what happens if an unstoppable punch hits an immovable face? Will the punch just create Den's anew for him to be hit in the face and not exist again? Or will Den's face be so immovable as for the punch to cease existing as well? Well, what do you people think?"

Ciaran stretched, yawned and took a more serious tone. "Alternatively, if there are things after Den that can kill him without touching him, I'd like to be informed." She demonstrated a fierce right hook. "I can only extend my protection so far, you see."

With a grateful nod to Vorbrin, Den is about to respond to the others... before everything that Ciaran said finally clicks into place in his head, and his non-existent face met his shadow-like claw. "... Oh my wife... this... this is what I have to deal with..." The dragon mumbled, before shaking in a way that could only be described as a shudder of horrified revelation and looking back up at the party. "... But anyway. To answer your questions, the whole 'damaging creation on contact' thing is actually relatively new... well, as far as being unable to control it, at the very least. All sufficiently powerful beings can accidentally eradicate parts of reality by sitting down... Not that I did that five times, mind you. Not at all. But what is happening here is entirely different... instead of it being just power, raw and unfettered, the destructive forces that occur when I touch something are from the fact that I... am a shard of oblivion given life. That is what I was reduced to, and that is what I will be until I recover. However," The dragon said, holding up a paw and pointing at Feather, "I am not invulnerable, and I only damage what touches me. True destruction requires vastly prolonged contact, which one does not need to, say, remove my head or stab into my heart. As well, think about it, if I destroyed absolutely everything on touch, how would I be able to sit on the ground? Think about it."

With that huff, Den turned to Nathaniel. "And as for the balance... you are outsiders. I would not expect you to have known the specifics, but the balance I speak is on between the powers of the Void... who have been at war for far, far too long. Ever since my... fall..." That last word came out as a soft whisper, hints of regret and pain implied by the dragon's wistful tone. "... But anyway. I seek to end the war, restore the three gods of the Void to their former glory, and in that way re-create the balance. Does that make things a little more clear, paladin?"

Feather smiles and shrugs, but then her eyes go wide, and she starts to grin. "Would you mind then, demonstrating this destruction? This thing," she said, removing her kilt, "has been weighing me down a bit too much in our battles. I thought it would help when I got it, but all it has done is slow me down." Feather tossed the kilt to the ground. "Maybe it would be as you had done with the ground already, but maybe not." She waits to see.

((Sorry Geny, didn't mean to miss you there! And Kareeah, there are differing levels of success/ failure on most skill checks... rolling a negative number on your tumble check (which, with the armor check penalty added in, a natural 1 would give you) will not end in happy fun times once you hit the ground. ))

Vorbrin's curiosity would finally be slaked as he opened the scroll... Though not in the way one might expect. As his detective and deciphering magics sank in to the ancient parchment, the paper would bounce out of his hands, fully unfurl, blaze as bright as the sun for just a moment... And then lay flat on the ground. But the paper wasn't important anymore. What was more interesting was the sphere of energy floating above it that looked so very much like a globe of differing shades of blue, red, yellow and green. The dwarven inquisitor would instinctively know that this globe perfectly resembled the geography of the world, from the smallest tree to the largest oceanic chasm, and he would know that there were commands to find specific things... But unfortunately, the magic did not tell him what these commands were. If Vorbrin decided to keep scanning the scroll and the magic, he would find that there was an almost insanely powerful and specific divination effect going on, but there was no spell or other modifier that could be identified.

The moment this happened, both dragon turbed their heads and said, "Aha!" In a pleased manner. The dragon of creation shuffled closer to the dwarf, a curious and happy light in his eyes as he mumbled, "Well, well, welll, a Map of the Pioneer... I thought that the last one of those had been lost to Oblivion centuries ago. In fact, I am certain if it! We scryed to find if any had escaped their grasp... This one must have been stolen back. Now where did you manage to get your hand on this one, my friend...?"

Den, on the other hand, gave Feather his attention and asked, "You would tather throw away the year's worth of wages that represents for a common man to test my capabilities than you would just keep it, give it to someone elee so that you are not slowed any longer and sell it at a later date so that someone can both benefit from having it and you can have a bit more change to your name?" She would get the feeling that the dragon looking at her was judging her rather thoroughly... But then it laughed in an amused  way and seemed to shrug. "Well, I suppose that's one way to test my boast, and I suppose that is really is not much of a sacrifice on your part... Accepted." And with that, Den moved forward and very lightly put the tip of a claw on the armor-plated fabric. Almost immediately, the kilt began to unravel as if made from the finest gossamer thread, making a hole that spread through the discarded piece of armor. The hole spread quickly, soon rendering the equipment worthless as an entire half if it melted into... Nothing. After making sure Feather had seen that, the dragon stamped his foot on what remained, reducing it to nothing more than smoke. The entire proccess took no more than thirty seconds.

"There, was that enough of a demonstration for you, miss...?" The dragon asked, sitting back and flexing his claw slightly.
