I posted an little snippet of my visual art a while ago in this thread.

Are we limited to just visual art in this thread, or can we have a more expansive interpretation? Most of my creative energies go into music or creative writing.

huh, i missed that. yes, i would call that art(your painting). personally, i think of art as anything created by an individual, or group, that is deliberately meant to provoke thought or emotions in others, and/or something of an aesthetic value. which of course, is subjective, and open to interpretation.

bottom line is, if anyone thinks something is art(because the idea is subjective), then post it in this thread. my goal with this thread, is to let people here at HC show their very own creations. so, whatever a member made that they think qualifies as art, should definitely go in this thread.

@ galatea: i cannot see the images. try using postimage.org, or some other uploader.

celfious made this:

it took me a second to see all of the little details in this work. i love surrealist art. i think this would look a lot better in color, as some parts are hard to make out. i love the animal clouds, that's cool.

btw, is that a boot pushing off, draped in leather, near the bottom left? it reminds me of fetish art.

time for something different than paintings.

wood carving for example. tried out my skill in making traditional Mardi Gras masks of Lithuania.

Carved in July 14-18 during a folk music and traditional crafts festival. not a full face though, only a size of a "souvenir". about the size of the latest samsung galaxy "smart phone".

made from a single piece of wood, some fleece and raw flax fibers for the facial hair. coloring, simple water based wood stain.

that's cool, man.

i was not aware that europe celebrated mardi gras. i thought it was an "americas" thing.

i used to work with clay. i completely forgot about my more physical art. i'll have to post that. thanks for reminding me.

the purpose of a mardi gras celebration here is to "scare away" the winter. and it's sorta like our halloween. kids go trick or treating, there is a lot of greasy foods(pancakes mostly) to be eaten, music, dances, games and burning of a large  straw/ragdoll effigy. it's held before Ash Wednesday.

the masks range from many varieties and styles, from jews and gypsies, witches, crones and devils, to goats, cranes, your mother-in-law and other beasts.

most are often made from wood, others use paper-mache and some other stuff.

nowadays, the tradition of celebrating is dying out, you have a celebration held in the capital, and one in our open air ethnographic museum.

LOL.

your mardi gras sounds like a ton of fun. sad to hear it's dying out. you would think people would fervently want to celebrate in such a manner. i know i sure as hell would. Halloween is my favorite holiday, no contest.

here is my only clay work barely worth presenting to anyone(made in middle school; it's been broken and glued back together since then):

everyone was supposed to make eggs, using clay, and have something hatching out of them. i found the psychological aspect of their easily transparent ploy humorous. as soon as they said, "make something coming out of your egg", i knew instantly what it was going to be.

and here is something i found while digging through the box for the clay hand(made 10+ years ago):

can you see the face?
