Mantis were part of Preserve town in H4.

But I think (?) that Orzie point is that H4 doesn't make a lot of sense

What part about the mantis is H4 exactly?

Mantis is originally a Heroes 4 creature, and could be summoned from a portal in the Nature town (along with the elementals and plants). So that I don't see any problem with Mantis being a high-level creature in a H3 town which replicates the same H4 concept.

I see a problem with insects ranking higher than mammals. It's counterintuitive.
And if this project's aim is to replicate the H4 Preserve then it already failed, creature-wise. That, or not all creatures have to be H4 Preserve. In which case there is no reason to think that Mantis is the best T7 out there.

In a world of fantasy, undead, elves and dragons? Please

Naturally they can't copy exactly the same H4 Preserve units since some of them are part of Rampart, duh. They keep the theme of the town and sub with new creatures, kind of obvious.

You may not see it. Others we do

Well, I also don't see a reason why the Griffin should be weaker than the Swordsman, but that's how things go in H3. There is seemingly no impossible things.

Mantiss looks awesome and is a direct reference to H4, where it was a really strong creature, impressing by its size.

For me, Lv 1 and 2 are ok. White Tigers->White Lions as level 3. Waspwort as level 4. Mantis level 5, Gorrilla Level 6 and Forest Deity->Horned God level 7 .

I find the turtles a little stupid while Mantises and Waspworts were overpowered in H4.

Gorilla as well can be level 5-6. Gorilla on lower levels looks weird.

The only creature I would swap gorillas with would be level 5. Tigers instead of them could be nice too.

Good luck to the modders!

I like lvl 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 concepts. Although I would have consider satyrs in a higher level and don't feel totally confident with level 6.

I don't understand lvl 3 and 5...
I would have include white tigers as level 3 or wolves (ideally as level 1/2 and push satyrs up).

Druids would have fit (I really think it is a good idea to have humanoids, not only beasts) although it seems to be enough shooters...

If you're going to make a Heroes town, be abstract & think outside of your mammalian box.  You should make a prehistoric town, Steve.  A pterodactyl would be sweet.

All the concepts are discussed. The thing is, people who decide about the oucome are on AC, not here

Still, there are some early works, likely to change.

Probably because not everybody has time and is eager to check every H3 forum.

Wow. Yea, such huge impediments that make exchanging ideas between forums totally impossible.

I'm sure that if they wanted they'd find someone suitable to keep tabs of other forums and share info. Kinda like Warmonger's doing here. Dunno if he's part of the project tho.

Actually, I have no clue about VCMI altogether but last time I checked it wasn't so developed as to make me quit WoG and start playing it. Dunno, I might be wrong here too...

Both Acid Cave (Polish) and DF2 Forums (Russian) communities are much more fruitful for modders than the discussions on HC, believe it or not.

I don't say HC is bad, HC is a must-have as well, but mainly the head discussions for many projects are held outside it, it's just an observation. Especially if we take into account that HC does not support mod subforums.

i totally agree with this. other forums are much more productive; i think both the HotA team AND VCMI team originally work on those other forums, and only post here for english speakers.

i wish there was a way to translate foreign language-speaking websites more efficiently than the google website translator; as you cannot click on the links in the foreign forums when the website is translated, and a lot of content is left out with the gwt.

The Succession Wars Mod also has an official Russian forum branch on DF2, and I must admit that we have got the ultimate load of help there, partially from HotA Crew, partially not. Our official website forum is currently far from this.

But back on topic: Sower's house render looks interesting as a draft. I wonder what function he intends it to bear.

UPDATE: I read on Acid Cave that it is the Satyr dwelling. Looking good.
