My little Wish (about creatures)

Welcome to my dream.

I have this dream for future Heroes of Might and Magic games for a long time now.

In this dream, creatures of all colors, religions, mytholigies and folklores join together on the battlefield to make each others lives a misery.
And while many of the old factions are still intact, many new ones have been created, filled with awesome creatures from mythologies all over the world! From the Native Americans to the Phillipines and from the Norse to the awesome Greek!
But not only the famous creatures like Minotaurs, Zombies, Vampires and Unicorns will be introduced in this game, also very unknown creatures like the Acheri, Karkadann, Arzshenk and the Nekomata will be present.

I can dream can I?

To give you a small notion of my dream I present to you guys the ultimate wish-list of Mythology/Folklore/Cryptid/Religious creatures.

It's far from finished, but I will post that which I already have finished and update the list in portions as its really a LOT of work.

Most creatures are based on their mythology counterparts, but i've added some spices and abilities to many of them to spice them up a bit and to make them even more interesting for myself, and hopefully also for you guys! So if there are other mythology-fans out there, some of my descriptions may differ from the real deal! (I did that on purpose! I know what the real story/creature is about so you don't need to correct me!)

Anyway I hope you enjoy this list! I will make it perfect one day, I promise!

Legenda
Creature Name (Mythology the creature is from) (Creature most common size) (random information about the creatures appearance and behavior)
*  = This is a boss creature, an unique creatures in my own RPG game, but it could be a regular creature in HOMM, but they make good boss creatures for their power and level is much higher than the regular monsters.

Take a note, these lists aren't FACTIONS, these are just creature-wishes for in the game, and the creatures are collected by species and sub-groups.

***UNDEAD***
The leftovers of the undead-family, these doesn't suit in the other groups of the undead. The most bizarre undead are in this group. Many possess strange abilities and powers to scramble the victims bodies so they can feast on them. Both humanoids and beasts/vermin can be turned into undead.

In this image you see the horrible flying hunter undead called Baykok, they sprung from the creative minds of the Native Americans!
- Acheri (Native American) (Small) (The daughters of the Horseman of Pestilence.) (Acheri love to spread diseases among other creatures, but they can also heal any disease by absorbing the disease back into themselves.) (They appear as little girls dressed as Indians, they can mask their horrid features with weak illusions.) (The little boy version of the Acheri is called Drekavac and they come from Slavic Mythology.)
- Baykok (Native American) (Medium) (The perfect hunters, Baykok love to hunt for powerful creatures and humanoids.) (They collect treasures, weapons and bones from their victims and use those as trophies.) (Baykoks look like hovering zombie-like beings, more skeletal than flesh, their legs are deformed into bird-like talons.) (They use magical bows and arrows that can track any creature it has in mind.)
- Chon Chon (Mapuche) (Tiny) (Horrid flying head with ears that appear like bat wings and needle sharp teeth.) (Chon Chon's often swarm together to form huge flocks of blood drinking horror.) (When they drain another human of his/her blood the victim's head will tear from it's body and joins the flock.) (Chon Chon's are also known as Nukekubi)
- Djieien (Native American) (Small) (Solifugid-like horrors the size of a dog with sickly white colors.) (These undead Sun Spiders are also known as Lich Spiders.) (They can burry their own hearts into other creatures or into the ground, you can only destroy the Djieien if you find and the destroy the heart first.) (Djieien often appear as mages among other arachnid-species, much like a Lich appears among Zombies and Ghouls.)
- Draugr (Norse) (Medium) (Drowned pirates and barbarians/vikings often return as the terrible Draugr.) (Draugr always serve the Haugbui that commands the Ghost Ship they sail upon.) (They are the zombies of the sea, but unlike the mindless zombies they are intelligent and have magical powers over storms and rain.) (Another name for Draugr is Lacedon.)
- Fext (Slavic) (Medium) (True Knights and Paladins among the undead, Fexts are very powerful undead, they are sometimes called Death Knights.) (Strangely Fext fear glass of all types, though nothing else can kill them, not even the most powerful of magics, they die from one hit from any glass object.) (Fexts often serve as commanders of armies or overlords for more powerful undead leaders and evil Gods.) (Fexts carry the most powerful and legendary of swords, shields and armor, when you kill a Fext however, the armor, shield and weapon perish with it and turns into glass-like dust.)
- Gloson (Swedish) (Medium) (Gloson are hellish undead boars that love to pierce other creatures on their saw-like manes of spikes that grow from their spines.) (Gloson love to terrorize graveyards, and often mess up funerals for the sheer amount of despair such deeds release into the atmosphere.) (While they don't need to eat, they are still voracious eaters, they always eat their prey alive and in pain, if the creature dies they stop eating as it brings them no joy any longer.)
- Haugbui* (Norse) (Large) (The Haugbui was the first Draugr that was cursed by an ancient Godess of the sea.) (All other Draugr are minions and slaves for the original Haugbui, they follow his every command and sacrifice their own unlife for him.) (The Haugbui controlls a cursed Ghost Pirate Ship, this ship was cursed together with the Haugbui to sail the seas forever.) (The Ghost Ship, the Haugbui and all Draugrs that the Haugbui created spend their days by attacking any ship they find, the only purpose is to create more Draugr's and to spread terror for sailors.) (They say that if you kill the Haugbui, he will be ressurected with his ship and crew on the same spot he was first cursed, so the Haugbui cannot be killed for good.) (The Haugbui has much more powerful over the weather than the common Draugr, he can summon all types of mist and fog to take away the sight of other ships and his lightning and acid rain attacks are very difficult to escape.)
- Legion* (Biblical) (Colossal) (This enormous creature is made up from hundreds of corpses that are glued together by some unholy spell.) (Legion is an unique horror that was created by the Horseman of War, it is his foremost right-hand enforcer of war.) (Legion scavenges on lost-battlefields for corpses to add to its sick collection, growing in size and power beyond hope.)
- Mummy (Egyptian) (Large) (While most Mummies are neutral undead and humanoid in appearance, the more evil variants take the shapes of beasts, winged horrors and ancient egyptian gods.) (Mummies spread curses like a bee would spread pollen, they have a very wide variety of horrible curses that have cost millions their lives, either by the curse itself or by suicide.) (Mummies often serve the Gods of the deserts themselves and keep thieves and grave-robbers away from the Gods treasures which are hidden deep within the most horrid of tombs full of Scarabs and traps.)
- Noppera-Bo (Japanese) (Medium) (These faceless-horrors steal the faces of other humanoids to gain their appearances and lives.) (Noppera-Bo's hate their own pityfull and cursed undead excistence and want nothing more than to be alive, this they will gain at the cost of a poor victim they steal the faces from.) (While they form a perfect physical copy of their victims, their memories aren't copied, so family or friends of the victim often recognize there is something wrong with their old relative/friend and this forces the Noppera-bo's to take another form often.) (Because of their featureless white faces they are also known as The Faceless.)
- Onryo (Japanese) (Medium) (These in grudge drowning female undead are a menace on every male they encounter.) (The movement of a Onryo is very disturbing, the things it can do with it's own body will make any other creature that sees it cringe in pure horror.) (These pale-skinned females hide their horrid scarred faces under a thick layer of filthy black hair, they only show their faces to make a terror-gaze attack, which proves often fatal for the victim that gets to see it.) (Onryo are born out of vengeance, mostly rape and male-violence against females gives birth to a new Onryo, because of this the Onryo would never harm a female creature, they only aim for male victims.) (A Onryo has many, many magical abilities, under which are the ability to walk against walls like a spider, teleportation towards any creature they have seen in their lives and the magical ability to call upon the victims fear.)
- Rusalka (Slavic) (Medium) (Rusalka are created when female humans are drowned by force, murder is needed to create a Rusalka, when a female drowns without being murdered the curse will not embed into the drowned carcass.) (Rusalka will try to lure any other creature they see on the shore into the water, once the creature has joined them they drown the poor enchanted soul and feed on the terror that is released into the water.) (The lake of a Rusalka is often filled with skeletons, bones and fresh corpses of all types of humanoid victims.) (Everything around the lake an Rusulka occupies will die, plants and trees will wither and insects, fish and small mammals all will disappear turning the landscape very grim and dark, this is very fortunate for the Rusalka as she can play the damsel in distress more easily now, so humanoid males will try to save her from the water, while the only person that needs to be saved is themselves.)
- Sigbin (Phillipine) (Medium) (These are probably the strangest undead out there, they appear as kangaroo-like horrors made from living shadow and with huge wing-like ears.) (These undead shadows will feed on the shadows of other creatures, freezing them to death.) (Sigbin are also known to drink the blood of a creature through its shadow.) (They are famous for their jumping abilities, but what do you expect, they are based on Kangaroos!) (Sigbin often serve Aswang as pets and mounts.)
- Toyol (Malay) (Tiny) (Like a Pickled Punk, these unborn-baby undead are trapped inside a glass prison.) (They have very powerful psychic abilities and they can drive other creatures insane by torturing them mentally with telepathic attacks, so they don't need to get out of their glass prison to be hurtfull to other creatures.) (Some Toyol live in giant glass tanks, where they grew into even more abominable horrors with even more potent psychic abilities.) (While very small, Toyols are often served by many other species of undead. They become its mobility and puppet, it can look through their eyes and controll their every action.)
- Yuki-Onna (Japanese) (Medium) (Also known as the Maidens of Frost or the Frost Maiden, the Yuki-Onna is a spirit based on frost and ice.) (Even when they were still alive their hearts were already frozen, these Ice Queens were always hatefull, becoming undead just made it worse.) (A Yuki-Onna is created when a beautiful but cold-hearted female human gets lost inside a blizzard and freezes to death.) (Jealousy and envy drives a Yuki-Onna they often haunt travelers for weeks before killing them with their ice attacks and blizzards.) (Yuki-Onna are the queens of ice, there are only few ice-based spells they cannot cast.) (While they are extremly hatefull and evil they still have the the perfect appearance, nothing beats the frozen beauty of a Yuki, not even a Succubus.)
- Zombie (African) (Medium) (Mindless, brain-eating, easy-to-kill undead, probably the weakest of all undead species, and likely the first you will encounter.)

The fool fell asleep in the woods. He would never wake up again as a horrible Sigbin is feeding away at his blood and his shadow!

Ehhh...no offense, but that looks like a complete mess :S

Don't get me wrong, adding some creatures to an Heroes installment that haven't been featured in previous HoM&M is good, a breeze of fresh air. But adding every single variation of the same kind-of-creature feel pointless and chaotic

It probably looks like a mess because you watch it on your mobile phone. Don't do that.

And what variation of the same creature? YOu mean like 4 elves in sylvan and 4 dark elves in dungeon?

All these creatures may be related to one another, they are very different creatures in the end. All my Unicorns for example are VERY different from eachother, same with the Vampires, Dwarves and everything else. At least they are much more different than the dwarves in HOmm5 and the dark elves in heroes6.

So I don't really understand any of your comments.

+ I don't want ALL those creatures into one game, just some of them added over the years. Some may be good for variations of different creatures or upgrades.

And of course these aren't factions, these are just creatures collected by species, not by factions...

The problem is that most (if not all) mythological creatures have hard-to-pronounce foreign names, which is a minus. Of course that replacing the boring, overused names with some exotic ones are going to make the game more unique and spice it up.

Also, Balaur, Strigoi, Moroi etc. are Romanian, not Roman. Romans had an important contribution in the formation of the Romanian culture, but they are slightly different.

Btw. this thread reminds me of my heroes 3 mod, a town based on my country mythology, the project is on stand-by atm, but since you reminded me of it, maybe I start reworking...

It's difficult to speak of this without artworks, but I see little reason to have four different Unicorns and such

First line of yours gave me the wrong idea:
Quote:
In this dream, creatures of all colors, religions, mytholigies and folklores join together on the battlefield to make each others lives a misery.

If it's just a creature wishlist, then OK. But at first sight it looked like throwing every single creature you ever heard of into the game and I don't like that.

Now that's a lot. so much I have no time to look through it all. I, personally like to have many creatures, with only slight differences even - on th eother hand these are VERY much AND I also like the  classical creatures. Sort of dilemma for me, so. A comment on a certain group:
Quote:
***FALLEN ANGEL***
Fallen angels are evil and corrupt angels that often serve the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse in some way, every type of good angel also has a fallen variant as all angels can fall from grace.
- Ankou (French) (Large)
- Anteros (Roman) (Small)
- Fury (Greek) (Medium)
- Valkyrie (Norse) (Large)

Valkyries fallen? Fury an angel? I'm no mythology expert but that seems to stretch a bit from the way I know it.

EDIT: another thing is that you seem to focus on mythology - but I think taht nonmythological creatures should have a place as well.

EDIT 2: another thing: I am german, and as far as I know, Mandragora and Alraune are exactly the same thing^^

It is nice to have such an extensive list, especially because the creatures are sorted on similarity. This way, if you don't want the standard version of a creature, you can find a similar creature while keeping the game original.

Yes, not all creatures in there are based 100% on their true mythology counterparts, many of them are changed in aligment, behavior, looks or group they fit in. I see Valkyries as angels of war (tho there are also good Valkyries), furies are the angels of vengeance and wrath, anteros the angels of hate and ankou the angels of death in my own RPG game and also in this list.

Mandragora and Alraune are the same in mythology, but not in game-worlds, where Mandrogora are the root-like imps that can scream very loudly and drink blood, the Alraune in my post is based on the Castlevania/Pathfinder one, the pretty girl growing out of a giant flower/rose.

Alraune & the much smaller Mandragora

This is a mythology-only list, and its long already, adding some made-up creatures is only make it longer, and ALL animals/monsters are pretty much in this list, only Lovecraft creations I left out and Kaiju, as I don't like the creatures that are over-present in other media. I'm not a fan of the huge-fanbase creatures such as Cthulu.

@ Storm.

Lol the Unicorns are ALL very different from eachother.

Karkadann = large warhorse/zebra like unicorn from the desert with a very bad temper and a very large horn.

Shadhavar = Black smaller unicorn that is carnivorous and looks more like a gazelle and not like a horse, its horn is magical and can be used to create sound attacks and much like a siren would to lure prey toward them.

Almiraj = a rabbit, much like the killer rabbit from Monthy Python but with a huge unicorn-horn on its head, I just liked to put that creature with the unicorns.

Sin-You = Much like an neutral/evil Kirin-like Unicorn, half-dragon half Unicorn. They punish the wicked with very cruel deaths. They look very different from normal unicorns and have scales, they are also huge and not horse-sized.

So like you see Storm, these unicorns are all very unique.

Same with the Minotaurs and Lizardmen, as Intulo's are more like the normal lizardmen (but very speedy and colorful) and the Brobinyak is much like a huge ogre draconian, a ogre sized dragon-human thing.

The minotaurs have the classic one among them, one based on crystals, one demonic one, and one yak-like demonic-slave with candles on his horn, while normally gentle, they were tortured by small demons into cruel creatures.

Thanks to the other feedback replies!

Alraune

I got inspired by your post (and a little GoT) to give a twist to Preserve: an undead cold-based faction.
What is frozen does not rot

Unfortunately I'm still missing one core creature, so if anyone can help me...Thanks for the list Rakasha

Core:
1) Walking Dead
Slow creatures with low damage. Fallen living creatures can be turned into Walking Dead after combat. Its strength comes in numbers
2) Zombear
An undead bear that packs quite a punch.
Upgrade: Otso
White spirit bears (incorporeal ability).

3) Valravn or Reaper Raven
Horrid Undead crow monsters that can take over abilities of killed enemies.

Elite:
4) Snow Maiden
Her cold touch (ranged?) chills her targets, lowering their attack, defence and initiative.
5) Snowman

Need I say more?
Maybe combined with the Mahaha? I really love that name for a creature that drives other creatures insane with its ice-cold humour and laughter.
Could be realized as a moral decrease for enemy units...

6) Death Knight
Put a vampire on an undead horse and you have a Death Knight. Alas, Death Knights cannot drain life, but their slain enemies rise again as Walking Dead (permanently).

Champ:
7) Abomination
An Abomination is a giant created from the flesh and bones of the deceased. This monster can regenerate by absorbing Walking Dead.

What do you think? I would say it lacks flyers (and maybe shooters). With a flyer as 3rd core (perhaps those flying heads?)
I hope the sheer number of Walking Dead raisable makes up for this weakness
If the ability of those Raven is a bit OP, the creature can swap places with the Snow Maiden. I don't think it is necessary, unless maybe when the taken abilities accumulate.

Some pictures are strange to you, but it's about the idea.

Like the Polong has a Carnage (From spiderman) picture, but I like to see a blood like ooze that can take humanoid form, and that looks much like Carnage.

Hope you like the pictures and I hope they all work!

Thanks!

It's actually a doppelganger-like creature that hunts vain humans from mirrors and replaces their lives so they can kill more.

Bloody Mary is their Queen, the mirror queen.

The Gaasyendietha picture is suppose to be a giant astroid/meteor/comet that comes from the sky, but that is a transformer-like dragon, that becomes a rock-like dragon when it hits a planet.

It's a freaking cool meteor-dragon, but too bad NOBODY on internet thought that would be cool to draw... So if you can draw dragons and rocks, please draw a cool Meteor Dragon, you'll be the first to draw that! (insane I know, that idea is so cool)

Thanks for the pictures man, but they aren't really what i'm after, i've seen those on google ;-p

Ok, most monsters have pictures, for some I still have to upload some pictures I have in my books, but for some there aren't ANY pictures available, not on google and not on Deviantart.

So if there are some gifted people on here that like to draw something never done before here are the creatures I can't find suited pictures for;

1) Aswang: A horrid ghoul-like creature, male with half-long black filthy hair. All his body parts can be seperated from his body, much like the Manananggal and Penananggal, but also his hands, eyeballs and feet can be seperated from the body, the drawing should be something like a swarm of bodyparts, every serperated bodypart has tentacles growing out of the spot they got seperated.

Is there a limit to how much I can update the first post?

As I can't edit and add stuff anymore, everything I add will give a error...

There's probably a limit to how much you can write in any single post. I think you've just found that limit .

That's usually the reason why people - when they intend to write down a lot - make several posts in a row, reserving them for later editing. If you had done so too, you could have moved part of the info to the second post in the line.
