I suspected as much. Have you confirmed that the fans are working properly? In my case, one had stopped working and the thermal paste on the other needed replacing. Was an embarrassing realization.

Even the worst fans ought to keep a pc around 70-76 C. If you can normally run ultra (would my mind posting specs?) then it's down to overheating due to something extraordinary, but something that will make you feel silly (like with me).

First when did you last clean your pc (especially the processor)? If longer than 6 months I advise you pop open your pc and remove the processor fan, get any brush and give that thing a get in there deep (I was literally digging out clumps of dust out of my fan, even though from the outside it looked 'clean').

Next replace your thermal paste, though thermal paste getting old normally increase the temp by nominal numbers (5-10 unless the first coating was badly done).

I managed to buy a decent laptop that someone sold to me cause it kept randomly crashing despite there being nothing wrong with the hardware. I encountered the same problem would crash anywhere between 30min and 2 hours, faster if there was any load. Cracked that bad boy open and found that the small heat slot was covered in half an inch of dust, I was mesmerized how it even ran without heat escaping.

@Tsar: My specs are:
8gb RAM
NVidia GeForce GTX 960M
Intel Core i7 4810MQ 2.80 GHz

It was last cleaned about a year ago. Wasn't aware it needed regular cleaning.

Thanks guys for caring so much! It's humbling.

It's not necessarily about regular cleaning, but pcs are similar to the body it may seem like it's fine and suddenly their not. In reality it's a process, dust accumilates and ur pc will cope for as long as it can, then it doesn't and that's when you get a kick in the jubblies.

I started the game as a female lizard huntress, with a noble/mystic background. So far I like it but the loading times are a bit long. Also I find myself unaccustomed to the controls, is there no way to turn the camera with the mouse? I hate having to click while rotating with the keyboard. Perhaps it's just the starting area which is in an enclosed space as rotating wouldn't be that needed in an open area.

Oh yes, also surprised that you only create one main character. How many characters can you control?

Middle mouse button is how you turn/rotate the camera. If you meant no way to move the camera by dragging the mouse to the edge than sadly I've not found an option like that (mind you not looked, thanks to Total War I'm used to using WASD to move around).

As for characters they're kinda like Dragon age, you will meet most of your potential companions on the road, though you will have more than a full roster from the starting area. You can also start the game as one of them (edit their features n class but not name) for some unique dialogue options and story lines.

I'm curious how different it would be to start as an npc over hiring the same character with a newly created one.

I like how customizable npcs are, it is a much better solution than the hire adventurer option from pillars.

Game's effing hard, much more so than DOS1:EE. Smaller damage output, no easy stuns due to magic armor being a thing, seriously overhauled thieving... grr.

You have personalized lines for a lot of things, plus a unique voice at certain intervals, so far playin as the human npc, and the unique questline feels better than simply doing it as a companion quest (thought those are great too, feels less sandboxy this way).

After almost 9 hours, I think I can go on record saying I don't like this game.

-It's easy to get lost, and it takes ages to get anywhere
-Gear is hard to come by, skills are harder
-Quest rewards are stingy as snow
-And yes, I officially hate the new armors
-I don't get the sense of achievement of downing mobs levels above me through positioning and tactics
-The game makes me feel dumb and clumsy

Not to spite you Poly but I am loving the game - am playing with 2 friends which actually makes it even harder because of some minor miscommunications (I swear if someone casts rain on my invisible ass one more time I'm gonna lose it) but we manage.

Polymorph is an amazing school which I run on my rogue - spider web for 3 turns (1 AP) from a high ground and AoE with magic makes some fights feel like you're cheating. Magic in general is very tricky to use - you need the upfront dps from a pyro/geomancer and only then follow it up with shock/freeze hoping you wont nuke your own party and the smoke isn't too bad for targetting. Polymorph also helps there, you can clear the smoke with the terrain-swap skill instantly and jump in with medusa hair for ridiculous AoE stunlocks.

Teleport is also essential to set up plays, I feel like I'm gonna run the teleport gloves for the entire game, it's still easily worth sacrificing an equipment slot on my rogue at level 13.

As for the loot - just wait till you get to the Undertavern in Act 2 and cream yourself there

I played some more the other day and it has the same 'flaw'(sin?) as the original. Beginning is very open and mostly involves walking around randomly and talking to people. Not enough combat to balance out the exploration but if you stray from the beaten path, you'll get your fights soon enough.

I am slightly torn on my team setup. I first recruited Fane as an enchanter, then Lohne as a fire/earth wizard. Briefly had Ifan on my team but I replaced him with Sebille, since my main is already an archer. I wonder if three classes in the back with a backstabbing rogue can work on this game, my instincts tell me I will end up exposed. I normally would have liked a fighter but I like Sebille's character so I want to give this setup a try.

I am playing classic mode btw.

I played with 2 other buddies as well, but I suggested to them that we ought to split up into different parties (we're rarely together unless there's a big enemy that one of my buddies ran into and died).

Lone wolf is broken imho, with just one companion I annihilated everything before the swamp without breaking a sweat on classic (lvl 5 characters). Lohse one shot some of the magisters lol, the Hunter/highground is ridiculously powerfull.

Besides playing with buddies and splitting into sub parties (so each of you commands a party) allows you to recruit more of the npcs, their dialogues/stories are great, plus it allows for bonding as well with a particular companion, right now lobbing around just 1 is not all that great from roleplay standpoint.

But yeah, Lonewolf on you and a companion is really damn strong (plus I'm playing as the Iben dude and his story gives some direction/basic disposition toward the world around you and that's nice). For instance it gives some nice little options like that woman that screams "it's you, you murderer you killed them all".

And one of the options is like 'laugh at her, though it could be true you don't know'.

It's not the same if he's just your companion.

TL-DR, I bought out all the starting area stocks of resurrection scrolls using my hard earned money on my dumbass buddy that consitently waddled into a bunch of enemies alone and still hasn't learned how to flee...I want my own party dammit! He died to the crocs, the Gheist, to skeletons, or just in fights rushes forward to try his luck with the Chicken attack which failed horribly and he got eaten.

EDIT: Also one of my buddies discovered a neat trick, if you move an NPCs seating place (for instance the meedicine chick by the cave in the starting area) she will relocate to the new location, so you can set her down at the swamp and further if you want, unfortunately he was trying to move a painting of Alexander at snails pace and somehow killed her with it, we still don't know how...

Lmao.

I restarted and got Ifan main as well. I'm running him as an archer and will probably get some summoning levels later.

Combat does feel challenging but I wonder if it's just me running a sub-optimal team ^^ For one, enchanters are not what they used to be and I don't have a tank. Come next chapter I think I'll make some changes.

I somewhat dislike the armour mechanics, doesn't make sense that they will 100% reduce incoming dmg till their protection runs out. And I can understand some protection against statuses but completely blocking them while active doesn't feel right.

Wands and crossbows still useful ^^

You will get some penetration weapons and talents that bypass armour, it's a real pain when the enemy has them (gave my chick a crossbow with pen, not that she needs it, she pretty much 1-2shots things from high-ground).

Since last time I have restarted with a new team. Loading times did not improve so I'll have to make do with graphics on low(except models) and disabled shadows. Game runs smooth in most areas but in others it lags like hell.

Anyways! Ifan archer, Sebille rogue, Red prince warrior and Lohse enchanter works much better than my old team. Red prince went from sword and shield to dual wield to eventually two handed. Damage is good, and the extra reach is a delight (esp on attacks of opportunity and aoe attacks). Lohse was limited to a buffer/healer role at first but she has developed some good destructive along the way. Sebille got some polymorph and warfare levels for crowd control and it works wonderfully.

I just got to lvl 13 and I plan to push my luck a bit with some encounters. At lvl 12 I had trouble with lvl 14-15 encounters like Roost, the void boss in paradise downs and enemies from the deathfog island. Meanwhile I've been hearing that others can push through 2-5 levels difference with lone wolf so either I'm missing something or lone wolf really is that good. Honestly, it annoys me having to run around to find encounters in my level range. Surely they could have designed that a little better? And I have trouble swallowing the extreme accuracy loss that comes with higher level weapons. What a killjoy.

Game concluded, it was a delightful experience with the occasional fit of exasperation I'm not the first one here, right? Despite some issues that make your life pointlessly difficult, this game is a great rpg. If only it had avoided streamlining, ditched the armour system and source vampirism out of combat.

First thing I did, I started that lone wolf playthrough I've had in my game since act 2. Holy crap, my Sebille archer has been steamrolling everything with that extra lone wolf attack, double stat bonuses plus bloody arrows, executioner and adrenaline. Fane was supposed to be my elemental powerhouse but he's been an afterthought throughout act 1.

Other than that, I love how different the game feels when you do things in a different order or you change your race. No focus on persuasion this time, Sebille's vicious remarks will no doubt land me in trouble ^^ I wish you could earn more personal skills though, I cannot imagine skipping lockpicking or loremaster and I'd hate spreading my limited skill points. Beginning to think that bartering is a luxury on lone wolf as I can save more with 2 characters less. I'm considering idol of rebirth from Dorotya, instant revival is plain handy.
