I'm not sure if you're trying to be ironic here ... but yes, one can try to group the schools, but quickly ends up with the problem of unequal group sizes - like you say, we could group 4 of the seven schools (back) into the classic "Destructive" or elemental, but then we end up with a 4-2-1(-1) system, which is kind of awkward. Better might be a 2-2-2-1 grouping - for instance "Destructive" (= Fire + Air) and "Creative" (= Earth + Water). I also liked Elvin's idea of going back to a four-school system, but with the seven elements being subschools in each. Still, abandoning the restraints of the seven schools (or subschools) just seems a lot easier.

I dunno, it's just anything is better than 7 skills for 7 Magic Schools

And you know how insistent on abiding by the lore Ubi is, the Elemental/Twilight/Prime idea at least reduce the amount of skills. Grouping them into 2/2/2/2 could work too I guess (Fire+Earth, Air+Water, Light+Dark, Prime+Void. The elemental groups are awkard though).

should go back to the series' roots and have three skills corresponding to the three original Might and Magic spell schools: Clerical (light/dark), Arcane (destructive/prime) and Druidic (elemental/summoning), subdivisible per class, but I doubt any of these people ever even heard of that system lol

Another good idea. But that would require to change Ashan lore...again. And I'm doubtful of that

Why would you want a cap anyway.

I'm sorry, but why are we so concerned about the level cap? If its 25 or 30 or even 20... i dont think i have ever even been over lvl 20 in any game Having a hero with that high level just becomes boring. To have all the skills and such... I think the game is at its best when you are around 10-15 lvl. Thats when you have some powerful skills, but you are still "specialized" enough to have weaknesses and so on... brings variety to the builds.

25-20 levels... In my opinion games shouldnt last that long... I pretty much finish the enemy around 10-15 and if i dont then something has gone horribly wrong Maybe with gigantic maps? Why even play those? The balance between factions is totally ruined if the game lasts too long... i dont think its meant to be played for overly extended periods...

But anyways... keep focusing on the lvl30 builds and you will be up for a pretty rude awakening in the "early" game when i'm marching through your gates and walls in no time

I would actually prefer this kind of approach. Only like 3 main categories, but they would slightly differ internally depending on the faction. The main categories would include a healthy amount of sub-branches that would determine the outcome based on your skill/ability picks. In example cleric between light and dark...

Skim through newest comments. People are thankful that the Heroes VII skill system is simplified in comparison with one from Heroes V. This is something deeply saddening.

Would you mind explaining this a bit?

Do you really end up having 25-30lvl heroes often? How long games do you people usually play in heroes? I cant even think of an occasion that i could have gained the ultimate ability in H5 without just stalling the victory or otherwise fooling around...

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my comments, but my opinion is that the H7 system is not as bad as it could have been. So im kinda "thankful" that they changed it and that its not the way it was in H6. The H6 system pretty much ruined the game for me. So im happy that the direction they are going with this is in my opinion the the correct one. Im not saying that this is in any way perfect, but its better than i thought it could be and it has potential to evolve into something pretty nice.

About simplifying things... that i dont like :/ I'm more in the "overly complicated systems"-team than "simple is the best"-team. "Simple" is not something that belongs into this type of strategy games...

You could easily reach higher levels in campaigns. It happened in H3, it happened in H4 (hello level 40+).

For me, the largest possible maps are the most fun (I only play h1-h4) on the hardest difficulty . I always liked starting out with no resources for some reason. Viking We Shall Go in h3 is one of my favorite maps. I mostly like the large maps because you enter a point in the game where you have so much gold, and other resources, they no longer matter. Just building up an army of only strong creatures from different factions (and neutrals), then taking over

And the games don't last too long, I'll spread them out over a few days but the A.I. in the old games is sooooooo much faster. H5 is too slow. I mean I could go smoke a cigarette, have a snack, and return to my computer only to find the AI still hasn't taken its turn

But anyways, I hope in h7 I can enjoy the huge maps again on the hardest setting and have it be an obtainable challenge. Not a 'Pick the right skill' like it was in h6

Ok i have to agree that in campaigns that might be annoying... but i havent even played one campaign scenario or map in my life, so i wouldnt know

Having too much money and nothing to spend it on or just wandering around recruiting just doesnt do it for me. I kinda feel like i am "late" if i cant optimize my travelling, spending and recruiting so that it all is synced. Kinda weird analogy but thats how i feel

But yeah the hardest difficulty is the most fun I like to struggle with resources and units. Makes the building and recruiting decisions more meaningful.

Comparing H3 and H5 computer turns... the difference is huge H5 is so slow Like a bunch of lazy snails

Hmm.... So it goes like this:
1. Warcries are only for might heroes
2. You gain access to new warcries when you spend skillpoints on leveling the warcry skill
3. You get additional bonuses to warcries when you spend skillpoints on the appropriate abilities in the skillwheel

As a might hero you probably have the novice warcries at the start of the game... nice bonuses.

But what about the magic heroes? What do they have as specialty? Both hero types can use magic so what makes them better at it? They have different skillwheels all together so there could be more schools to develop, but is there any other difference?

Warcries are pretty much just another magic school exclusive for might heroes. I guess that might heroes will always have magic skills as minor (can't get Master level) and that they'll have less of them than a magic hero.
