Gender-bender units have, sadly, became sowhat a staple of the series. In Heroes III Djinns switched sexes, in Heroes V - Rakshasas and now deers do the same. But I agree - this has always been and still is stupid.

It funny that Heroes 7 now have more posts that Heroes 6 ever had in HC... its even funnyer that half of them are probably negative posts about bad reviews or the er-win guy

It is not that much justified. But people want some answers from Ubisoft. For example, how would you react if you pre-ordered a Collector's Edition and it came without the game itself?

The female/male genies thing did have unfortunate implications. The Rakshasa and Deer ones have a free pass imo because it seems that only Rakshasa males can grow extra arms and the Sun Deers have horns which does obvioisly cant have.

On the contrary, the stack of genies could contain both males and females, while the h5 and h7 creatures upgrades only focus on sex, the sex-change is the upgrade itself, not just the "icon unit"

yeah of course (in fact that probably applies with most units) but still comes off kinda sexist to have to make the upgrade male.
