well almost everyone tends to agree the Infernopolis was a *****y idea too, there is no double standard when both of these lore-heavy makeovers of a faction are criticized lol

when you do that to an existing faction, sure it can be original or interesting, but the price of it is that you're taking away the vision of the faction people are already fans of, basically forcing an own interpretation on it, thus pissing off its fans,
Disciples is a game where that kind of highly involved lore-centric stuff works better, it was built with lots of lore as the foundation, in Heroes though things are different and it always just divides the fanbase and creates arguments lol

I do agree with you. And surprisingly i can see the point of view of the developers as well. Treading the lines of being burnt as a heretic, maybe if there was less spider ornaments and more generic look to the units, change would have been easier.
And going back to the original point, the biggest mistake was the whole spider theme on the units not the lore behind it. I mean what do we care what the necromancers care to believe in. The mistake they made was that they only try to show the "good" side of necropolis and not the traditional one which still exists in Ashan anyway.

It would be nice if for a change they decided to add or enhance the current lineup with the more horrific and gothic gory looking undead of old.

I think one thing that comes very clear just by reading the last 10-20 posts in this thread is that even on a simple topic like this (the Lamassu), we're often talking about many different things, or from many different perspectives. Some people discuss the concept, some discuss the design, others discuss its functionality, and yet others discuss the lore behind it.

Personally, I like the concept of the Lamassu. It associates to the Sphinx (good - Egyptian theme ties with Necropolis; pyramids, mummies, etc.), it has a distinctive look, it has mythological ties - all good things. This for me makes a good starting point for a concept.

I think the design is pretty good. Sure, it has the H6 flaws with too much neon-green eyes etc., and a make-over between H6 and H7 would have been nice, but again, if we move from the specific games to the more general design concept, it's good.

The lore? I don't even know what the lore is. And I don't care. Zero importance for me, so this is not something I judge a creature on. The Vampire and Lich lore also sucked in H6, but Vampire and Lich are still iconic creatures in Necropolis.

The functionality? That's related to a specific game. So it was too slow in H6? Doesn't have to mean it's slow again in future installments. Again, that's not a parameter I judge a unit by from a general view-point.

True. But people did not know anything about the unit in Heroes VII, back when Necropolis faction was still released, for they related to Heroes VI.

I guess most of these things came as a chain reaction and build up the anger. First, the spiders as units was ludicrous to many. Now to see the thing from Heroes VI was too much. I guess it was about the green tone it had in Heroes VI? I don't know.

I don't feel lamasu is something to be angry about. Unlike that townscreen... bleh.

Personally I dislike the image of the Lamasu. It's bulky and clunky, almost if it was forced into the line-up. The way it flaps its wings, the way it moves, I don't know ... it just strikes me as being out of place. As for its role and function, I think it fit well enough.

model was a bit bad, but art drawning looks good-ish.

btw, discussing spideropolis is.. outdated. focus on fortess. hamster... etc etc..

edit: lol i said sanctuary instead of fortress.. but it was completely because of blizzard games, not because of our waterlovers. im also discussing lore of sanctuary(diablo universe) at another forum the same time

There is nothing much to be said about Fortress. We only saw the line-up and hamster seems out of place.

But, ah, I hope that Rune Magic works exactly the same as it did in Heroes V. Man, using those resources in battle to buff up was extremely fun, innovative and interesting. Pretty sure a lot of new tactics came by using just runes.

Well I agree. Runelore in heroes V was probably the best faction skill, and really fun to play around with. Like their own bonus magic.

Actually, I got a guess for the lineup based of what we know and personal perferances.
Core
Defender, Kobold, Battle bear
Elite
Rune priest, Lava Rhino thing, Either Valkyrie or Fire giant
Champion
Fire Dragon (which BTW is probably the coolest dragon design in the series yet), Either Valkyrie or Fire giant (perfer valkyrie though)

I'm 99% sure most people think the guy with the big hammer in this pic is the Rune Priest.

Of course, for all we know, "Rune Priest" is just the name of one of their Magic classes and they have no such unit on the field.

In that case I better liked the old thanes. I mean, despite only being a giant dwarf they where some of the most badass units in the fortress lineup, not to speak of their tactical potential.
However, I do doubt it is a thane.

If Thanes and Warlords didn't end up in the roster, wouldn't be surprised if they end up being Might classes for Fortress heroes... probably throwing "Jarl" into the mix as well.

Let's just look at what we have been given and make an educated guess

Each faction has its own simple elite shooter. Therefore fortress must have one.
So it's a rune priest

I think I am one of the very few people who like sanctuary more than fortress and inferno

But I am conviced about it will NOT unfortunately appear in H7.

Except for it was the only faction which was not possible to be chosen during the voting, I could not imagine its racial to be different to the current ones.

But while it's chances to appear is slim, I believe it is possible. Inferno might have a bigger chance being an older faction and a favorite among fans, but Sanctuary might still be possible.

I think the second expansion will certainly be the Inferno (if I look at the SC votes), if it comes at all.
Then the 3rd expansion would most probably be our favourite sanctuary but I doubt Ubi will want to support this game so long.

However the potential of this game is great after the upcoming changes

About the racial, I cannot get rid of the thought that sylvan racial would much better fit to sanctuary.
