kind of underwhelming, though i don't mean that in a bad way. it's just kinda... dull. Same good if boring academy as always. i really  like the Djinn though, as long as she doesn't actually have legs. that would be stupid.

As far as I remember HoMM6 4th Necro original mission, he was from Shantiri Empire and he was banished/hunted by them for his heretic ways - he thought a human/elf/etc. can become a god, which was a anything opposite to Shantire Empire, where dragon-gods and their priests were rulers.

I was wrong - it was wizard Azhar, not Sar-Elam...

Sar-Elam is a he as far as I know.

On the Academy elites: I like the line-up...and I guess the rakshasa's will be the strong units in the line-up...

INFERNO LINEUP!!!

Core
1. Tormentor/Demented - when evil souls go to hell, Tormentors are in charge of torturing them. Everyday, Tormentors rip souls piece by piece until there's nothing left. The next day, they bring them back again and repeat the process.
Tormentors and Demented are the muscles of the Inferno army. They are slow tankers. When they become Demented, they are faster and stronger.

2. Hellhound/Cerberus - they are the pets of the demons. They are extremely fast. They can cross the whole battlefield. Cerberus' multiple head allows it to attack multiple targets at once in the same line.

3. Succubus/Lilim - as the magic users of the Inferno army, Succubus can attack from afar while seducing any male creature that comes near her.


Elite
4.

5. Dark Sin/Deadly Sin - melee attacker that has 2 out of 7 skills randomly chosen at the start of the battle.
His skills are:
1. Wrath - any target he touch will have an increased attack but also a much lower defense
2. Sloth - any target he touch will have a slower movement speed.
3. Lust - any target he touch will follow his every command.
4. Pride - any target he touch will ignore general's command and will do anything he pleases.
5. Envy - any target he touch will attack allies of higher tier.
6. Greed - any target he touch will steal ammo from range units.
7. Gluttony - any target he touch will start eating each other within the stack, does, reducing the stack's number.

6. Incubus/Cambion - stronger range creature of Inferno. They have their own special skill.


Champion
7. Devil/Arch Devil - well-rounded strong creature with special skill.

8. Pit Fiend/Pit Lord - best at summoning Inferno creatures from hell. More of a caster.

For the last time, they didn't change Sar-Elam.
They just said the same thing they said before... Gender = Unknow.
Calling him a he is "by default".

For example, in the compendium (2012), you have:

if they didn't know the gender, they should've called Sar-Elam "he/she" or "himself/herself". I think that's how they called everyone else whose gender is unknown.
The he before is kind of misleading.

Personally, I don't think they didn't decide the gender before. I think they already decided he was male and changed the gender to unknown on a whim.

seems more like they themselves assumed "he" was male and then realized it doesn't matter. I'd prefer a she if we ever get to see her/him, but it's better leaving gender completely out of it as it doesn't actually add anything to the character.

gender shouldn't define characters and leaving the most powerful person in the setting as ambiguous and open to either is really nice

While I am pleased with a magical bird as an academy champion, the next time I'd like a djinn spellcaster. That would be a good thing for a number of reasons: One, it would fit thematically while respecting tradition(plus doc has some seriously powerful djinns). Two, it would enrich the champion gameplay. Three, it would leave more freedom for the elite tier.

I do like the disciple, djinn and rakshasa trio but academy will have to change its mold eventually. And we have been asking for a spellcaster champion for a long time now

I like that idea a lot, they should change things a bit eventually and that would be great. We already know many Djinns like Nur who are spellcasters of the highest caliber

Nah, I think they changed it on a whim because of the gender discussion in the comments section.
I don't know why they made Sar-Elam's gender fluid though. It would make much more sense if it was Asha.

I support this idea. Djinns as superpowerful spellcasters sounds so cool and Academy-ish

I hope that Djinns would at least be able to cast random spells - this was a great feature of them in Heroes V.

Yes, Heroes VII needs a spellcaster champion unit. It would fit Academy very well.
I still dream that Magical Bird will be changed to Phoenix, but... It's probably impossible.

Now I like the Djinns as much as anybody else but I think they are more potential heroes then champion material. I loved them in H4 but in H5 they were kind of useless, being the only actual cavalary in the lineup and being extremely fragile as well. The obvious choice for champion would be the Faery dragon ofc but good luck fitting them into the lore. I would welcome a H2 style badass magi back and not these squishy tier 4 equivalent mages we get lately. Other than that the dragon golem would fit great thematically.

I fear we might actually end up without caster units this time and only have this activated ability bs or units with abilities coupled with their attacks. Something like the druids ranged attack insta-casting wines to slow down enemy movement and such. We already know that the apprentice gets the line-attack it had in H5 but what would the Djinn get? Freeze?
