LizardWarrior said: Haven creatures were promising, the fact that it wasn't based on Griffin Duchy was promising... but the town screen just SCREAMS h6. I excepted a more medieval town, less light, wooden houses and darker stone, a more Germanic Haven. Why do haven humans believe in Asha and her creation, while the very god they worship is a proof of evolution, Elrath, da Dragon Chicken
IŽve prefferd if they made HavenŽs town look like the holy roman empire fromt he middle ages, Charlemange comes to mind. as its been said by Lizard warrior, germanic arcitacture. IŽd prefer if they hade did away witht his rather unimspired fantasy setting with the dragon gods. I liked how Heroes of might and magic 2 handeld it, where every good faction ahde an evil counterpart. castle hade necropolis, sylvan hade the barbarians and wizard hade warlock. iŽd also like if they returned to that sort of nameing the factions. enough of this overblown fantasy architecture with huge golden dragon statues, i prefered thew heroes 3 artstyle with a more down to earth but still fantastical style.

one idea iŽd like to see is to have Haven renamed Castle and give it the knight themed creatures, no angels. Dwarfs be more viking inspired, with a ice and fire motif, valkyries, lindorms and giants. Necropolis whould stay basicly the same but not with these rather lame looking undeads. give thema more ruined ancient look and make the liches look like skeletons again. Orcs be more like the Huns, elves like the celts from france. wizards are a bit more tricky though, i always liked the heroes 3 tower look but maybe with a more oriental feel. a sort of arabic, india mix.

Ultimately, everything is a matter of taste.
We all have desires something to be inserted into the game, something to be changed or left aside. Developers can not meet our every desire. Something has to be sacrificed, not everyone can be satisfied at the end.

Actually I think the Haven TS looks bad, very bad
Why? it deos not look alive!
There are almost no Buildings.
No smoke from the houses (like in Heroes V)
No people or creatures.
And all buildngs just look like glued on a generic green background.
For me, the best TS were in Heroes II where each added building gave the feeling of your town getting biger, while still figing into the whole.

Townscreens in H6-7 have another disadvantage to H1-4 townscreens. In H1-4 townscreen had two parts in general: town image and army/town interface.
In H6-7 (so far) army/town interface is on town screen and it eclipse part of town image.
I don't remember about H5 townscreens right now but I think they also hadn't two parts.
Oh, and I don't know why we can't pseudo-3D town screens. We have 3D faction buildings models on adv or combat map, so why not "print screen" them and "paste" into townscreens themselves. You know, like in H3 or many of its mods

I don't know if anyone noticed, but Righteousness
Thanks to their faith and team spirit, the armies of the Holy Empire have impressive morale, which becomes a powerful asset in battle, where they seem to strike twice as much as their opponents.
is Haven's faction ability - static14.cdn.ubi.com/mmh7/prod/images/units/haven/haven_faction_ability.png. That's why the horseman and swordbearer had 2 consecutive turns in the IGN video. It might be that the other factions have morale working differently for them.
I tried searching for the academy one but with no success.

Though the Havens townscreen is not bad imo, you have a point: it looks like a military base or a Palace Quarter of a bigger city. They should add some little houses here and there... or maybe this is the devs intention, to make towns function as war-bases or forts, not places to live in for common folk?

I noticed that in the Academy town screen too, that unlike the previous games, when upgrading the capital, new "common houses" aren't added. I don't like that. Makes the towns a lot more lifeless.

Yeah, look at all those miserable little Cabirs, who don't have a place to chill out and play Heroes III. It's not cool to cramp those 1000 critters in a small building next to their spawning pool...

I must admit I hadn't noticed that either. In fact, the more I look at that picture, the more I notice how weird the various perspectives are. You can see windows and doorways in the bottom right section, which are smaller than their counterparts in the center of the town.
Also, something irks me a great deal about the wall in the lower left. It somehow seems the perspective on that wall is completely off, but I can't put the finger on it.

@Maurice
Let's be frank. The artist that drew this townscreens is probably the same that drew them in H6. This guy draws nicely, but his buildings are off scale, crooked, lose the perspective, and many look like they were glued to the base without much consideration for the esthetic side. And there are multitude of examples, just look on the Academy art.
I like 2D town screens, but maybe they should try a different artist, or try to render them, like in H3, because it looks like it was done in a hurry...
