I wish Limbic had money to do 3D townscreens. These are all just ingame models that are present on the map, yet their look is stunning. I know they won't be practical but Limbic 3D animators can do wonderful things and this the example for their skills.

I see. If they are smart, they ought to add 3D townscreens as a patch or something.

Nope

Don't confuse people with you wishful thinking.
I you want post the lastest version of Haven townscreen, then post it, if not, then say it's a photoshop and not real townscreen.

They were nice enough to do the same thing in Heroes VI, so maybe in Heroes VII we will be once able to immerse ourselves into the 3D glory of townscreens... Oh, sweet dreams...

yeah those are pretty good,

ironically if they didn't waste money on these horrible 2D sketch townscreens, they could have used it to finish those 3D vistas and thus push the game to the 21st century, but instead we're going backwards to the 19th lol

listen guys i have a serious and realistic offer: lets make a new ts, together, using same buldings(they will use those building in game, and probably modelled them to use ina dventure map.) but with different positioning-coloring-lightning-landscape. i can draw the main detailed sketch-i can spend hours to make it good-. i just need 2-3 week more to finish my current job and get my freedom. so how about starting for a ts project at the end of the may?

3D townscreens are good and all but ...

1. Read those H7 system requierments
2. Think how long it took for H5 townscreens to load
3. Read H5 system requierments
4. Read H7 requierments again
5. Immagine the time it will take everytime you want to switch between towns ... specialy if your PC is on lower end of the spectrum.

And NO Ubisoft has no record of greatly optimizing games so they would work well.

Now my proposal would be to have both. and you would be able to turn 3D/2D townsecreens option on in graphic settings. Tell that to Ubi. They will laugh at your face and shut the door on you, screaming: "there's no time and money"

Exactly! They have made another huge mistake - they kept the same guy who created townscreens for Heroes VI and should have been replaced at the first place. Instead, they decided to keep him. Why? It seems that someone misinterpreted reactions of the fans with hurray-optimism, while after patch 1.5 people were happy because there was any townscreen.

What if you had the 3D town screen, but you can't "access" it directly?

That is, the screen rotates around the point (so you can see the town from many directions), but you can access its buildings through the menu (whether buying creatures/war machines, visiting tavern Hall of Heroes or similar actions)? Would that help (or hinder)?

well as noble as that is, the community has nothing to prove IMO, here are just a few examples of great townscreens generated by fans on a budget of $0.00 lol

Meh, all those towns are made by professionals, not the next door fan. It is always more pompous to believe we, the fan community, are able to do such, but is wrong. The few people who did those towns are working in graphic area as real job. Then not mention it took them up to 6 years for one town (HoTa) and 1000 years for Bastion (never released).

nah pompous schmompous, the standard was set 15 years ago, people are making these things for free, and Ubisoft's third world work for food deviant artist paid in peanuts should easily be able to match it lol

While being a "professional" usually has its advantages, it is not a requirement for creating good content. There are a lot of games with mods and UGCs created by fans that would put professionals to shame.

I agree with you that graphics standard were set 15 years ago. But, since then, standard graphics moved to 3D, and this is 500 times harder to do than those H3 screens. I know a few people here genuinely believe that fans can do better because a few applied some filters on already done towns and it somehow looks better. But seriously...

this.

and i know i can put up one hell of a good sketch(im an artist & architect), but i also know i ll not be good enough to color it(im not an expert painter), and i have absoloutly zero idea about animating it(architecture programs are not really related in this). thats why i made an offer. if any of you guys know what i dont, then i believe we can create a wonderful job.

btw honestly Verriker, its nothing to do with proving something. we can mod it and enjoy more, and thats all i really want. 2nd picture is nice imo.

what i think is, same art style(h7 art style) with rework, including real deal hand drawnings etc etc. as a version 2.0

@lizard

very cool job mate, now imagine it has correct perspectives and hand drawn art, as well as some professional touchs.. a patched, final version of it. wouldnt it be amazing?

Look, there is a difference between creating meshes from scratch and using already existing ones the modify. I don't know ALL games using mods but from what I've used in Civilization and Skyrim, there is one thing Stevie needs to know: 99,99999 of mods use existing meshes and models then only modify textures, add codes for new features or actions and so on.

Take Civilization 4: there are 5000+ mods about new units. Find me ONE which does not use predone animations in Nifskope. You won 't. All modders use preexisting meshes and only add this or that.  A professional needs to create the model and mesh from scratch.

LW: I know nothing about that town: did he created the background, all the buildings or uses already done images? He only said he started 3D; making background implies he is very good PS painter too.

I like your enthusiasm. Maybe you should get a team going. But it's too early at this point. Wait at least for the Beta to see how modable the game will end up. If things can be changed easily, then you could probably get a few others and do a good job.
