I agree with Pekao, Necropolis isn't a horror faction anymore like it was in h2-h5, this made it less interesting. Why don't the devs give Sandro the lead for the sake of the old times? Danse Macabre was the most interesting thing from H6. Wizards don't worship the dragons, but respect them for their power, Necromancers lead by Sandro should hate the dragons and fight them using void magic, wishing to destroy the Dragon Gods' Balance and became Gods over life and death themselves. Inferno would be the chaotic evil faction, while Necropolis the lawful evil one. Have Sandro make a coup d'etat in Heresh and banish the spider worshipers, that's something I'd pay for

I'm suprised that so many people attribute things like "dark", "horror" and "evil" to Necropolis in the Heroes series. Apart from Heroes 3 I never really conceived Necropolis as very dark or sinister. Though I agree that less green as dominant colour would be good for this faction.

Yes, that should be the goal of the undead: overcoming the dragon-gods. Unfortunately, they made the Necropolis religion all about the worship of Asha and restoring the order and nature.. I don't think it's possible to bring back those great characters, but they should introduce a new face to the Necro, maybe an apprentice of Sandro willing to start wars and trying to steal the power of the dragons. That could even justify new dark-horror-like creatures, created not through the balance, but through the will of overcoming nature. I think that sort of story line would please the most of necropolis fans.

Hello, they are undead. Necropolis was alwasy dark and sinister, since H2.

@Pekao: Exactly, Necromancy is against the "balance" and "order" of nature, is a violation of the life-death cycle. The necromancers should be the ones that spit in Dragon Gods' faces by disobeying their rules and playing Gods.

That would be interesting. Friendly undead is... what?! The idea of wanting to play gods over life and death is indeed suitable! Yet, wasn't that the purpose of wizards? Solmyr? (or whatever his name was)

And we should forget, House Eterna was part of Academy at some point, and their purpose was finding power, not disobeying the dragons.

All I wanna say is that evil undead don't work because of the lore so far.

Basically, yes. The dark, pale town should definitely replace the poisonus/toxic green theme. These units are undead because of dark magic, not radioactive nuclear waste.

A headless horseman with a reaper would be perfectly cool as the dead knight, though.

Skeleton Zombie Wraith Ghost Vampire Lich and an optional Dead Knight/BoneDragon in a dark theme would make everyone happy, leave the spiderettes for the dungeon or throw them around as neutral units.

I couldn't agree more, a headless horseman would fit perfectly well, just as a less "warrior-like" vampire (i loved both the Dracula-style of heroes 5 and the Nosferatu-style of Heroes 3) and less spider things would be just great. I would love to see the Banshee as freak as the one in Duel of Champions, a 3d screaming model of that thing would be beautiful!

I'd prefer an Ankou(mounted grim-reaper) over a headless horseman, but everything is better than the spider lady or the hag-faced lamasu. Also a vampire that doesn't turn into a bat isn't a vampire...

I'd really like Dread Knights back... Agreed with vampires, I never liked Ubi's ones, looked more like undead crusaders than actual vampires.

Same as on Antagarich in HoMM3.

I totally agree that the spider lady and the lamasu shouldn't be in this game at all, but about the vampire, i loved that dark teleport of the Heroes 5 vampires, i wouldn't mind that vamp-style in this game. Maybe it would be better if the vampire design was full of shadow bats flying around him all the time, but i would keep that cool teleport

I think the way Necropolis was designed in both 3 and 5 was interesting to say the least and should be kept in mind here.

Altough I'm an open-minded person, I would like everything to stay the same as in HoMM5 creatures wise, maybe include Black Knights, and replace Bone Dragons with something else, they're the most uninteresting creature in the whole HoMM universe to me.

By the way, does anyone have any information regarding the Necropolis section from ubi's blog ? I'm eager to find out about their status right now.

It's 20 years since War of Broken Staff, when Wizards destroyed green and fertile Valley of Heresh. Archont Belketh was killed by wizard Maahir (hero of one of H5 scenario map), who became First of Circle and much of survived Necromancers went underground (literally).

War of Broken Staff said:
The Necromancers launch a surprise assault on the Silver cities. Undead armies swarm across the borders of Heresh, destroying everything in their path. After ten years of bloody conflict, the Wizards once again gain the upper hand, breaking the Undead legions and scattering their remnants. The Necromancers are utterly defeated and their kingdom shattered by massive waves of destructive magic. The ancient cities are destroyed and much of the land is rendered uninhabitable. The once fertile valleys of Heresh are “vitrified” and become a barren wasteland, filled with bones and laments. The Surviving Necromancers go into hiding. Most retreat underground beneath their destroyed kingdom. Some infiltrate the Holy Empire.

PS
Oh,and btw here is how Necropolis town looks like now :

Hey look, a guy who completely agrees with me. That is nice to see, especially the part with Bone Dragons.

Exactly what I think should be done, H5 lineup but instead of Wraiths you put Death Knights in there, and instead of Bone Dragon you put Wraiths(but call them Reapers I guess).
Now since we have 2 champions this time, I would put Banshee/Namtaru for second champion.

Sadly we don't know anything about Necropolis and Stronghold yet. IIRC they've said that they will put the vote polls for creatures in certain factions as well, now will that be only for voting factions or will apply to Necropolis and Stronghold too I am not sure.

Maybe it will be just for the voting factions since they've made a choice for 4 starting factions and we already know every unit in Haven and Academy lineup.

They said the game will be ready in about 9 months, it is too late for vote polls for creatures, it's all done already I guess.

I think the whole vote thing is a non sense anyway to be honest, we have to blindly choose between two factions we know nothing about. No thanks

I don't think it is nonsense, I would always choose Inferno over Sanctuary/Fortress/Dungeon/Sylvan for example even though I don't know how the faction will look like.

Necropolis must be horror from our childhood. From the old black and white movies and from the Victorian horror stories.

I'm gona love to see the return of Death Knights (and really headless would be great! I imagine them to have a sword in one hand and there head in the other - no shield, they are already dead and never fear to die again).

Also to see the bloodsucking vamp from H3. Vampires dont need lethal weapons like swords and dont need armors in battle. H3 has the best conception for them. They must turn into shadow, bats, wolfs, ravens, etc, and sneak near the victims. There may be hero with specialty that make stem not only regenerate, but also increasing their count in battle.

I know that many never liked the bone dragon, but its not only classical for the game, Necro need something big as there prime creature, and this spider thing is failing. How about a giant worm? A worm that can strike from the earth without someone see it? I think it sound well. Or just the bone drake.

Necro is nothing without litches - the dark undead wizard that bring the plague with him, and nothing without skeletons - the most basic unit. Zombies are to classical for the game.

I'll really love if they go back to the haunted old castle or town. Necro must be the from the old ghost stories.

I care only for necro I played them all my life

Not straight evil, just selfish, cruel and megalomaniac.

That's our hearth. The Necromansers - our leaders are not evil for someone else, for some great cause. We bring the plague, we watch them die and rise them as creatures of the dark to aid us. We want to rule them and crush empires, but not with brutal force, we use cruel tricks. And we do all this for we are selfish and megalomaniacs. We simply want to be gods on earth. They call us crazy...

... and they are right.

When it comes to the vampire I prefer the Victorian count with the cape to the Nosferatu style of H3 but both will do. No armor or sword for sure, a vampire should attack with its fangs, fly as a bat and since units will have spells now, may transform into a wolf or better hypnotize like in Wog.

Making everything Victorian may appear too modern for a medieval game though. The Zombies and Skeletons should be medieval soldiers like in H3.  And when we have the rest, there is no place or need for a worm... I guess some people think both the wraith and the ghost will be repetitive, well, I still prefer a screaming banshee or a mummy to a worm. I think the worm would classify as a beast rather than undead.
