Well not excactly, they created all the beastmen if I remember right? But only them I think, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Academy created only beast-men (half men, half animals), like minotaurs, centaurs, harpies, rakshasas, sharkmen (lol, blizzardboy, your name for them is much better) and gnolls. On the contrary, all the animal hybrids were created when normal animals were exposed to dragon veins. These hybirds are griffins (half lions, half eagles), manticoras (one third lions, one third bats, one third scorpions) and some other, wich I either don't remember or don't know of. It's not hard to imagine hippogriffs in Ashan being half horses, half eagles, and pegasi being half horses, half doves or something.

LOL @ mvassilev

Phoenix, teach me how to make that pretty flyer! Pixie image is especially wonderful. Where is it from?

TBH I wouldn't mind that lineup, just swap the druidess with the nasty looking tiger. If a Dire Wolf has downgraded to core, Tiger should too, heehee. Pegasi Archers please. Like in Master of Magic!

best possible lineup for Sylvan:

I didn't include Druids because they'd be better off as heroes.
Heroes would be:
1. Druid
2. Ranger
3. Beastking - druids focus on plants while these bad boys focus on animals.
4. ???

I like more the line of PhoenixMK. I'll love to see pegasus back in the game.

And this line will be perfect just if we remove the tiger and put there there the dwarf with the hammer.

Werewolf mmm. It would be nice to see how would the devs explain them loreewise. They are usually affinited with "bad"...

Well, easy enough. Let's make them like in Warcraft universe: Druids possessed by wolf spirits. Then maybe a shape-shifter unit? In elven form: archers and in close combat melee fighters. Strategically speaking it would be a really interesting unit...

@PheonixMK: That's one interesting lineup! I especially love the good old HoMM4-style tiger. The only unit I don't like in your lineup is a pegasi rider. Two horses in a row (pegasus and unicorn) is a bit redudant. That was my only complain about HoMM3 rampart.
@JeremiahEmo: This lineup is also interesting. Satyr could be a beastman with a similair backstory to the minotaurus (wizards gave them to elves as a present, than elves granted satyrs freedom, but satyrs decided to stay with their new masters). Werewolf is also interesting. I say replace blade dancer with something - and the lineup will be perfect.

Enough of these green / gold / emerald dragons. A giant feathered serpent called Quetzalcoatl could be an excellent champion creature for Sylvan.

Who cares about names? Factions in "HoMM" have always been a compilation of mythical creatures that belong to different cultures. Quetzalcoatl is a deity of nature, and that's the point that makes it fit the faction.

*I* care about names.
One of my personal criteria is that names should be easily pronounceable for an English speaking person.

There are no mentions in myths about the colours of its feathers. This artwork just illustrates the main idea of the creature's appearance.

Quetzalcoatl would be an interesting unit. But the thing is, Quetzalcoatl is more suited to the tropics, like Pao islands, while Irollan is clearly situated in a temperate forest. That means this flying serpent would be out of place in the elven armies.
