"Quetzalcoatl" isn't difficult to pronounce at all.
Rule 2: It should sound good in English.

What would the upgrade be, BTW?

Assuming my usual role of Buzz Killington:
Quetzacoatls for Sylvan would very likely conflict with the Serpentflies, which since DoC, have been connected with Sanctuary.

Faerie Dragon would make more sense, imo.

It would. As far as I am aware, Faerie Dragons have yet to be defined in Ashan. And I loved their incarnation in HeroesIV.

Quetzalcoatl would be an interesting unit. But the thing is, Quetzalcoatl is more suited to the tropics, like Pao islands, while Irollan is clearly situated in a temperate forest. That means this flying serpent would be out of place in the elven armies.

That makes sense. "HVI" Stronghold could have more creatures inspired by this culture, not only Jaguar Warrior and Shaman.

Rule 2: It should sound good in English.

What's the origin of these rules?..
Creature's original name is a part of its cultural aspect. Abandoning it just because it's unusual for English-speaking people is absolutely worthless, IMO.

Quetzalcoatl could be an upgraded version. The base one could be named "Deep Serpent" or "Pao Serpent", for instance.

These creatures are completely different.
And Serpent Flies were neutral in "DoC".

Dragons, dragons, dragons... Faerie dragons... Boring.
But Alex_Yakub convinced me that Quetzalcoatl is more suitable for Pao Stronghold. So, dragons for Sylvan once again.

But they have to be "Sylanna's children" so it's simpler to give spellcasting features to the Green/Emerald Dragon, no?

Sooo, a dragon is boring, yet a feathered flying serpent is not? Hmm...

Maybe a dragon like this then:

Not really, precisely Faerie Dragons stand out because they are very different from the standard dragons, they're not just 'another flame throwing winged beast', they shine in combat thanks to their magic & spells.

Not to mention Ubisoft seems to have turned down the number of Dragons since H6.

Yep. Quetzalcoatl is an original creature with its individual characteristics described in myths. Painting dragons in different colours or giving them new abilities is just a placeholder-like decision in situations like "a tier 7 / champion creature is needed, but we're out of ideas", IMO.

And when did Faerie Dragons were a 'painted dragon in a different color' in HoM&M? They always differed in design from classic dragons.

It actually referred to Green / Red / Black / Gold / Emerald dragons.

Well, you really can call a creature from myths "original" because every one of them are the sum of beliefs, real-life animals, and interpretations of various phenomena. I know what you're trying to say: I want sth not cliched and Quetzal seems to be a nice choice. But like I say, a dragon with an "original" (read: interesting) design is just as good.

Then why do you bring that to the discussion if we are discussing Faerie dragons?

I mean, it certainly can't be an argument against them...

dragons are the obvious easy choice. i want a treant remastered into a champion unit! ok faery dragon sounds good.
what i liked about ashan was that the champion units were not dragons (till the fans OVERREACTED and demanded a black dragon that did not make sense in ashan when the other factions did not have dragons, and took the spot from the faceless who was perfect for champion unit, being a counterpart to an angel) and they had to get creative and give us other beasts instead.

They needn't be.
Making them Sylanna's Children would indeed make them another form of Green/Emerald/Crystal Dragon. Which would be boring.

Supposing we take the route of emphasising the Faerie instead of the Dragon.
Make them more akin to the Pixies, Dryads and Treants, according to the current lore, and make them forrest-spirits with plant elements.

I like the alternative of Treant/Dragon (Faerie would be sweet indeed) as champion. Or does it sounds too familiar with already Haven & Academy having each one flying and ground champion to choose from ?

BTW we can have some original creature ideas, but mostly, from what I can see, fans are not that fond of new creatures. Of course a nice unit has a chance of becoming quite popular (like Rakshasa), yet many fans whine about things like "were is my Griffin!" or "what happened to Behemoths? There are also creatures which didn't become popular: Frenzied Gnasher, Sea Monster and Mermaid (well H4 is probably the leader in this subject ) being only a few...

I don't need that many dragons, but like Storm said, there seems to be a regression of them, and H6 had some of the worst dragon designs if you ask me (only Kirin was somewhat nice)...

Well it depends if creatures are cool enough I guess.. About mermaids I recall that I liked them as neutral and liked their siren songs and wave abilities..

Colour decisions is not the case of Faerie Dragons. You missed this:

It's just a "let's implement a dragon that can cast spells!" decision. According to this logic, we can come up with Faerie Centaurs, Behemoths, Cyclops, Hydras etc. Nevertheless, "HIV" made those creatures more interesting by introducing an ability to mirror magic.
