They already said that they use the Unreal Engine 3 and not the Heroes 6 engine (whatever that engine was called).

Well...

Heroes 6 did not use the Unreal Engine.

Apart from this they specially said, that they switched to the Unreal Engine 3 because the H6 engine was too complicated for all the things they want to do with Heroes 7 and because of their negative experiences with H6. Erwan himself said in the twitch livestream today that you had to be a coder to make any changes in the game, which makes any modifications difficult and bears the risk that you break many other things in the game while you change something.

The Unreal Engine however makes sure that they can focus more on the design of the game and more importantly gives them powerful development tools.
For us this means the chances of a more stable game client are higher than with previous Heroes titles (though not guaranteed) because the Unreal Engine is widely tested.
Additionally we get things like modding support from the day of the release, which can prolong the lifetime of a game tremendously.

H6 was made on a proprietary engine owned and maintained by Black Hole, and because Ubisoft managed to kill off Black Hole, they couldn't reuse it if they wanted to lol

I loved the screens I saw from Heroes VII while I hated the H VI ones.
And I really miss a proper editor, specially one that can work completly without coding and at the same time give u some (to plently) coding options, like in Heroes IV. But I truly doubt we will be so lucky.
On the other hand, if Ubi aknowledged how many copies of Heroes III have bought over the years and how I didn't even bother to reinstall my pirated copies of Heroes V and VI they would probably re-think their aproach...

About graphics I remember to say this to friend: I prefer to play chess with plastic pieces then checkers with ivory ones.

Graphically, I'm impressed. Out of the 3 iterations Ubi published, Heroes VII has by far the best ones. And not because they're the best technology, but because they're very well designed. Compared to Heroes 6 where the contrast was through the roof, this kind of grey, rugged look really fits the medieval fantasy theme that the game has to have. Shining lights and very brightly colored objects ruin my immersion. Those should be exceptions (a magical creature attacking or smth), not the rule.

Looks like a fantasy RPG, which Heroes isn't

It still looks more realistic.

To look at it another way, H6 is 'How to Train Your Dragon', while H7 is 'The Hobbit'.

Love the new look and appearance of H7, it is mature, medieval, and somewhat mysterious. H6 looks too bright and colorful.

I need a STRATEGY game, that is, gameplay is the thing which matters, not graphics. My computer is also not strong enough to handle the poor H6.

Again: gameplay >> graphics

Well if it can't handle H6, H7 will be way beyond its capabilities.

H6 is simulatenously both generic and exaggerated in design.
H7 just looks generic.

I really like graphic style of sixth part of Heroes saga and this is the ultimate reason why I am so concern about quality of it in 7th part. For now it looks... not-good, not bad but just not-good, plain "nothing special". I realise that H7 is in a early stage of development but it looks like Ubi wants to "downgrade" instead of "upgrading" graphics.

I hope H7 will at least keep the same quality H6 established.

Oh please, H6 looked like it had been made by Pixar or Dreamworks, while H7 as it is at the moment looks like they at least tried to inject some realism into it.

Fact: Quality of graphics of H6 is so far much higher than in H7.
The style is closer to H2 than to H3, but still much darker than H5. That was a good choice.

Anyway, I haven's seen guy on the moon nor Pizza Planet Car in the game .

Quality is not smth that can be changed by point of view. I am not talking about style, only about execution. Look at the trees and say which one has more details and where number of polygons seems to be higher.

For me the graphics of "VI" is much better than the one of "VII". The only problem of the game's style is its aggressive colours that make it look childish and exaggerated, IMO. Making colours subdued solves this issue.

Heroes game must have vivid picture to me, colors of magic ...
Look at Heroes 3 it's colorful too.
Heroes 7 in terms of visual betrays tradition.

Heroes 3 picture

Realism is not always good thing, it's good in Battlefield 4, were American soldiers shoot bad guys.  From other side Borderland 2 self shading vivid picture is nice and have original look. Realism is boring !

By the way it's not fact they try to look realistic, maybe they just found some free 3d objects, textures, trees and just put them in the game. Look at the town screen, it's vivid as was before, town assault battle site is vivid too ...

P.S. After look at H5 screens ... Even H5 in some aspects wins over current h7 visuals. Let's take a look ...

Fields in H5 have more vegetation variation - flowers, scarecrows, mushrooms  etc .. Windmill have more details. Trees - more variation, better execution.

You're judging what will be or not in H7 just by looking at a map that was supposed to pinpoint game features for the GamesCom ? Who says there won't be any scarecrow or mushroom in H7 ?

In Watch Dogs game show UBI put more things compared to game release. Let's hope they will add things not remove like in case of Watch Dogs. Imagine - no windmills at all after release

Darkem didn't mean artistic tastes (notice there are no words like "beautiful" or "amazing" in his post), he spoke of a quality that isn't doubtable in this case. Map objects in "VI" are more complex than the ones in "VII". And it's a fact that will be proven finally after the release of "VII".

Quite frankly your logic fails completely when comparing the two games. On a general level an increase in the number of polygons leads to an increase of assets quality; however, another problem is concerned with optimalization - game developers need to decide what is the optimal number of polygons for each game asset. The price of increased quality is lower performance, thus you need to decide how low on a particular asset can you go, sustaining acceptable visual quality, to make the game run smooth on a casual gamer's PC.

Heroes VI environment assets might seem more detailed and of higher quality, which is very hard to argue, but on the other hand they cover a larger portion of the screen. The trees is Heroes VII are significantly smaller in size than the trees in Heroes VI for example, so it's only natural that they don't need to be as complicated. Even more so, the whole art direction shifted towards a more iconic feel, whereas Heroes VI applied an almost realistic Adventure Map in terms of asset proportion. Comparing the two makes little sense really, apart from expressing personal opinion. Same goes for the color scheme: Heroes VI uses a more vivid, lush color scheme, similar to Heroes II, whereas Heroes VII is more reminiscent of Heroes III, with a slightly darker setting. Whether you like it or not is your personal opinion and taste.
