For me, boarding on a ship then losing movement is making the game longer and I want to skip this repetitive feature.

However, unlike music playing, the movement for boarding/leaving ship had a very significant strategic impact. Not only did it make you think twice about going in an out of boat just to take up something, it also prevented you from doing sneak attacks by sea (sail -> unboard -> attack town) and prevented you from escaping an enemy hero by summoning a boat and fleeing over water - both of which can be seen as good and bad, depending on individual taste.

I agree but why you think water maps are almost never played?

What is the ratio of water vs land based maps, 0.00001?

For the sake of playability the water could be considered as every other terrain because otherwise you have to come with a damn good and original idea to make the players sudden like it.

Losing movement when boarding a ship is the single greatest thing that keeps me from playing island maps. It's extremely annoying, and I'd like it removed.

While I could cope, even consider having a system where you loose some mvt points -system depending on army's size sounds good to me- I really find it utterly crappy that you don't loose a single one !! ... Also, of the greatest things I like in the Heroes NWC era is its universe and I really can't play Turbospeed

Because before HotA there was almost nothing in the water area ?

Exactly. One more reason to not lose your movement points, while going into Oblivion.

#4: option lose all/none in ini file. Everybody happy.

When will they learn to make games?

I agree, heroes need more customization, but it should be more user-friendly, like the WoG options panel

Yes, this, more options in advanced setup panel when starting game please.

As for poll, I'd say loose some unless having navigation skill/perk.

Another good idea. Loosing all without navigation, and some depending on navigation skill level.

But the customization in this case is also good idea.

Exactly, then Expert Navigation becomes a better skill by giving such advantage.

That's another solution, but I still think it makes water maps very unfriendly and frustating for heroes without navigation

Maybe for a water map you can actually pick Navigation ? We all know there are other ways to cross a short river or not so far away lands in one day too...

only losing SOME movement points make sense. unless your army is in the thousands. then, it DOES make sense, to take a day to board, unboard...

I think I like the Idea of Navigation reducing the cost of boarding boats... But I'm not sure if this should be a general atribute of this skill (Basic 75% of movement, Advanced 50, Expert 25). Or if it should be a perk connected to this abilitie.
Or in skillwheel system a sub-perk under logistick and navigation

To much skill otherwise, you'll need one more level just for this. The navigation is just Logistics at sea (or more like Pathfinding), and its not the most attractive skill. This will makes it slightly better.

As a perk of Logistic skill would be the best option, imo.

Have you ever considered how many boats you would need in reallife to transport an army that goes in the thousands?

In fact, Frederik Barbarossa had his army move on Jerusalem over land during the crusades, while Philips the Second and Richard Lionheart came by boat, simply because the Holy Roman army was too large. Cities like Venice couldn't supply enough boats to transport the army by water.

But then also compare it to traversing Magic Portals; why wouldn't that take longer, with increasing army size? After all, such Portals have limited size ... .

In Heroes games, movement on land and sea is a lot different. In absolute distance you could always travel further by boat than you could on land. Navigation or special buildings could increase this distance significantly. I like the sacrifice of using the rest of your movement points one day, to be able to cross a greater distance in the next turn(s). If you just add a movement penalty, I think you should make the travel distance on land and sea the same. You would also need a conversion between the two types of travel. That could be a little complicated with logistics and/or navigation.
