The winter version looks surprisingly awesome.  I do agree with kirye that the excessive snowfall is perhaps a bit much, also with the light coming in from the left, but overall I feel the snow theme is a much better match with the dampened colours, and I think this really fits the wolf theme. As a concept, this is definitely heads and shoulders above the official WIP.
Also, interesting find with the Justicar standing in the snow.

nah, the falling snow is ok, great even. it's the clearly really strong sun lightning that makes it look bizzare. though maybe lighten it up a bit? snowfall i mean

While snow scenario looks awesome, I think falling snow make town screen non-fuctionable - you hardly can see buildings, not to mention recongnize one from another.
What reminds me:
And yes, falling snow was present here too. Moreover your quest was to find, why it's still falling and stop it.

Now, this fanart brings us all the way back to the neat but abandoned little idea that was present in H4. Changeable terrain in townscreens. Maybe we will see its comeback sometime in the future?
That snow nails it when it comes to my vision of this slightly "new" look/feel of the (Wolfy) Haven faction...
And seeing how Game of Thrones is popular nowadays, for couple of people it would score some points probably...

I don't know if I should interrupt the haven townscreen discussion but I'd like you to share something with you.
I think this picture could be a great inspiration art for Sylvan townscreen. Just replace the sun with the moon, change the day to the night, change the building style, less blue more green and so on. Even the music fits perfectly in my opinion.
What do you think of it?

Galaad i think the snow storm one was better. But that's just my opinion.
Ps. Sylvan was japanese themed? I thought only the Sanctuary was East Asian themed, Academy is middle eastern, Haven is eastern Europe, Sylvan/Dungeon is Central Germanic, Fortress is Nordic, Stronghold, American, Necropolis is Gothic and Inferno is...Hell?(even tho in HoMM3 they where aliens)

This feels completely "frozen" now, that's the word that summarizes it best for me. The other one was much better, the snow didn't seem so abundant, it was as if it just begun snowing some moments ago. That also made different colors possible and not just an entire sea of white. More colors, more variation, more distinguishable features, and it's easier on the eyes.

yeah, those slanted roofs, houses on stilts, sliding paper doors and pagoda for magic guild is clearly not japanese. where did i get that idea from  ?
anyway, snowing with little snow on the ground was definetely better, though mostly because it retained some coulour or it at least made sense not having them, with the sun being obstructed and all. new one is just frozen and lifeless but would look really good if the reds could shine through.

Actualy, that picture Findan posted is much more Chinese, than Japanese ... just saying. And H3 town screen always felt Korean to me ... idk why...
