Well as I see it, you're sort of contradicting yourself here. If there is a dark side of Ashan but it just doesn't come out in the games, that's effectively the same as there being no dark side at all. It's a fantasy world, so it only actually exists in the way it manifests itself in the games, so if games doesn't show no dark side, it effectively doesn't have a dark side.

Oh, that means I can keep saying that Sauron had no personality. Good.

well Sauron's personality is mainly fleshed out in The Silmarillion, which is part of the story of that series, so not really lol

Ashan's story is fleshed out in the Ashan Compendium.

Lord of the Rings is obviously a book series, and Heroes is obviously a game series, nobody in their right mind goes around citing Lord of the Rings games as evidence that Lord of the Rings has an awesome plot lol

Actually, now I think about it...No. Why not ? Despite all of its flaws (which is has in the dozens) it has one thing that is better and could be exploited-evolution of races we have. In the original games, we had centuries of the same, boring, medieval setting.  This was, BTW, a problem of one of the other biggest, non-major setting-Bionicle, where the culture also had no evolution for thousands of years and the jokes being made about how the story-teller designed it all are of a far greater caliber than you guys and Erwin. If, let's say, the next game moves a few centuries after the events of HoMM 5 and DM, we are fine. Just utilize the good ending and here ya go. Imagine a continent teared up by its own wars, because, well, there are no Demons left and there is no-one to fight. Each campaign of this game will be focused on how to destroy and politically damage your enemies faction and how to make a short-lived alliance with an other faction. Hell, you could even go the full MMORPG way and have your hero to be a assassin or a seducer, only to then go back to commanding your armies. Changed  factions, which have been turned unrecognizable by the centuries that have passed. A new lore, since several of the Factions do no longer believe in their Dragon Deities. A new story-line, with us having a real, grand influence on what is going on. Better town screens. A mix with M&M, in which you (like I said before) actually control your hero in first person and even can visit the city you build. Better graphics. A new faction, based on the concept of the free cities (could even be this universe version of Fortress (the original one, not the dwarf one). Better graphics.A multi-media campaign with comic-books, books and short films being based in the M&M universe. Ubisoft (I will not call it Stubisoft for once), can do it, if they want to. Most of their games-pure gold. So, why can't they do the same for HoMM. There are so many ways this could be explored and still they stand still. Someone, give the rights back to JVC or let someone with an experience in strategy games (2K,f.e) do the work. And leave the M&M games to yourself, since you are the man in first-person action games in strange and fantastic universes. They will give us a good HoMM.

I dont think that people should stop believing on the Dragon Gods per se, since even if they "detached" themselves even more from the world, their existence is still very palpable through the 6 elder races and the orcs existance. Their attitudes could change ofc, but not to that point, imo.

Well, not really. The grey thing is very much in effect. Just that we have been playing with the good sides of the respectives factions.

Not playing the dark side for the most part doesnt mean it's not coming out or that it's not there. Gerhart, Ludmilla, Miranda, the whole Angelic host scheme. And even then on the playable side we have a knight templar, a fatricide, a rape victim and an illegetimate child (which kinda wants to snow his half sister)

Actually, a devastating enough war could bring the end of worship of the Dragon Gods. IIrc, during the Ancient Age, the world has pretty much forgotten about Asha and Urgash, the Primordial Dragons - they would only become known again after Sar-Elam's ascention to Dragonhood.

I don't think people would be likely to stop worshiping the Dragon Gods - but losing all knowledge about them is something that is quite possible.

Old heroes universe has a unique atmosphere, possibly from various sources, a combination of Fantasy (low and high), Faery Tale, Mythology (Greek, Egyptian, Norse, Chinese, middle east), Folklore, Medieval (dark age, high medieval, gothic, tudor), Barbarian (Conan),  Vampires (dracula), Science fiction (star war), Steam punk,  Cyber punk , Aliens, Pirates all mix together like  ensamble  far from boring
New universe ashan most sources  from high  fantasy, tolkien, warcraft or another video games
