I had an idea about how to fix Ashan, with (amongst others) new and (interesting) twists on familiar factions, but all was sadly lost when my external hard drive broke down. As of now, I have not been yet to fix it.

But, actually, you're right. In 3DO Heroes we had different factions and various continents. We also had an interesting and varied mythology with different monsters and giant potential. Now, we've got nothing. Ubisoft has created such great things with Watch_Dogs and Assassins Creed. Why can't they just bother for once ?

H4 might not have had good balance, but at least it didn't hang or run slow very often, which IIRC was one of the myriad issues with first-release H6.

Well, everybody hears what he wants to hear IMO... But I won't say it's not a possibility
Btw, do "we" hate Ashan, the storylines or all of them together? If it's storylines (oh horrible H5) we need the writers to blame ^^

@Galaad Are you trying to hypnotise me? Hey, I have skull-face, those things don't work on Necromancers.

Let's hear what the man says about Necromancers, dear Sandro400:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ickt5_QM9mM#t=15m

Erwan le Breton said:
We don’t want necromancers to be like in many many other fantaisy worlds, just guys who have been molested when children, and now hate the human … Humanity as a whole and just want to turn everyone into zombies. You know that’s … We don’t want that.
So instead we wanted them to have something to fight for, and we said they would be on the side of Order (still speaking about necromancers), so they would be totally opposed to the demons (think I totally nailed it there).
That’s also a, radical change: they’re not bad guys that sometimes ally with demons like in h4 for instance (yeah let’s bash on h4), they would be really their antagonist. So that’s one change.

The second change we wanted was hum, let’s consider them to be Buddhist (Whaaaaaaaaaat????).
That may come as a surprise but, Buddhist in the way that, they consider that reality is an illusion and it’s, erm, it’s not here to last, you know it’s eeeh, ephemeral. Eeeem, so they’re afraid of this world which is changing all the time, especially people aging, getting sick, yeah what they search is perfection, eternal perfection and, eeem, the fear of death, basically, so that’s why they want to become immortal (dude you lost me already), that’s why they study death magic, they wanna be in changing, perfect, absolute, they don’t wanna feel something like the Buddhist because they know that if you love someone, some day you will, suffer grief, because they will be sick or they will die, they will quit you they will leave you, and so eeeem, they kill they hearts,  by becoming undead (but of course!!!), they become Alabaster statues , the Vampires, it’s their highest form, they never age, they never change, they don’t have any feeling anymore, so they consider themselves, not dead, eternal, immortal, but eeeeeeeeee, away from any kind of suffering.

So we call them the Morbid Buddhists, and they’re a little bit on the zen side, they’re ascetics etc, so that was one thing.

The other thing was [spider talk][...][/spider talk]

So we had all these images converging, number eight being sacred to her, eeeeeeerm, so it’s the number of Order in our world, it looks like a web (consistency +1 LOL), so all these symbols converged we said OK, they love her death aspect obviously, that’s what they worship, these death aspects would be better represented by a spider [spider talk][...][/spider talk]

Then we imagined the story about eeh the fact that they have to drink, the venom of the spiders, to kill themselves internally so, eeeee, basically, they they die in the process, the venom is magical, it flows within their veins, mix to the blood, I mean, it makes them super powerful (hardcore stuff!!!).
So if they have only little portions of the venom, they just, age slower, and they gain some kind of powers, they’ll become what we call the Lich (wait, what was that?), if they really take, a huge quantity of venom, through specific rituals, they reall die and are reborn again, but this time as vampires so it’s, … super powerful.

(WOW)

So all this converge together (huh, no it doesn't), we said OK:  Spiders + Necromancers + Buddhists = the concept for this faction.

[spider talk][…][/spider talk]

Then I kindly remind him he didn’t answer Stevie’s question, which was about how they dealt with the negative feedback about all this concept.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ickt5_QM9mM#t=20m24s

Erwan le Breton said:
So we had a, negative feedback which were expressed on the forums, on certain websites etc, that’s, that’s true, eeeeeeeerm, now we ... Eeeerm, our reaction to that, was the fact that it was eee, contradiction of creative vision.
So we totally accept the fan feedback when it comes to eeeem, making the experience better for them in terms of eeee playstyle and having a Heroes game which is as close as possible to the original formula (ORLY?), because we ourselves admit that we have failed to deliver some features, it’s eem, especially true for Heroes 6, which had a lot of eeerm, let’s say, that was NOT AS GOOD as we wanted to be on its release [Heroes 6 talk][...][/Heroes 6 talk]

Erm, when it comes to, erm, “we don’t like your world because the spiders and the undead for us make no sense”, our only answer is to say for us it make a lot of sense and we just like it and eee, so, our team is behind it and that’s the way it is (so **** off)

So yeah, I think I fully agree with Lizard Warrior here.

Firstly, you didn't exactly have to type all the "em"s. These are not a part of actual interview and frankly, I'm a bit resentful of the manner in which you typed it, as its less of an actual quotation and more of a pointless mockery. Not to mention that you kinda failed on the punctuation, but let's put that aside.

I already mentioned that, too.

Sligneris said:
How did you expect him to act? He defended his own creation, it's something natural. Do you expect him to start believing that the world he created is garbage that should be disposed of, just because a bunch of guys on the internet say so?

I actually admire that he handles it this well. He doesn't get put down too easily, despite people outright hating him. I... wouldn't take it that lightly, should I be in his situation, quite honestly.

Ubisoft is being continuously accused of 'disgracing the franchise', while they saved its very existance, taking it from a bankrupt company. People who dare to like Erwan's work in any way are branded as 'tasteless, brainwashed casuals with low standards' and you cannot be a 'true fan' if you're amongst those...

Yes, in HC, there is a majority (60% according to this thread) who thinks Ashan is something bad for the brand.
The toxicity you are right mentioning does not come from these lands, but from the dev blog.
Around several pages back I was saying I blamed Ashan for being a business machine, let’s have a closer look to what is being told to people at the Shadow Council (who got selected for going to the fan day), let’s take Dungeon vs Inferno voting example.

MMH7 dev blog said:
We are nearing the end of our census! Cast your votes, convince your fellow councilors to change their minds (by any means you deem necessary) and we will meet up once again in a week time to announce the results of this vote. Both factions have something to bring to Heroes VII adventure, but only one can join...

Or let’s not forget the advertising Fortress received back in the early days of the Shadow Council.

Quote:
It is time for you councilors to fight for your favorite faction and prove its supremacy!

Precisely what I’ve been doing during the votings. To me Undead Sorcerer was only the closest model to a what I consider to be a true Lich since it was based on the fanart from Negativland and I used caps locks to prove its supremacy.
And is my perfect right to consider anyone thinking otherwise is a heretic who should be burnt at stake.

But this is not all, here is what all the “early birds” read.

https://mmh7.ubi.com/en/blog/post/view/what-is-the-shadow-council

Quote:
The Shadow Council give you the possibility to make your voice count, especially through different votes that will be proposed along the months but also the ability to comment and exchange on all website pages! Furthermore, you will be able to follow the progress of Might & Magic® Heroes VII game development, obtain insights about the upcoming features, the team and more, and way more!

MMH7 dev blog said:

What kind of atmosphere can you expect during the votings, when Ubisoft is telling you himself to act in the horrendously despicable manner you describe, even encouraging cheating, then blaming community for “giving them headaches” (as Kimmundi said before he left Ubisoft) recounting the ballots?

I honestly do not believe it is developers from Limbic who asks councilors to behave as such, they are far too busy working on the game.

And since
Who is behind this website said:
We are the Might & Magic® team, a tasty mix of Limbic Entertainement and Ubisoft team members

No need to ask yourself which are the people revealing irrelevant infos like how a faction should be played when what you are actually voting for is lore and flavor.

_
So, please stop derailing the Heroes 7 discussion thread (or any other thread) which is already as bad as it is, by defending Ubisoft’s horrid practices of milking the franchise each chance you get, this will only bring to these -meant to be peaceful- lands the rotten atmosphere which has always been down that very dev blog.

You know, I feel like the fact that you choose to interpret the quotes from the blog in such an absurd manner does not in any way justify this kind of behavior - especially when you conveniently ignore the fact that words like "convince" or "prove" are used in both of these cases. Caps lock is hardly any proof, convincing others does not mean insulting them.

I absolutely agree, but with the NeverStoppingFlooding system which is implemented, when you have more than two thousands members registered going berserk after what I call a brainwashing session, you simply can forget about being constructive in the sightliest.

I had the suit on all the time, but except for the mask which I removed most of the times because with it I couldn't see ****.

Even though is my belief the suit protected me to some extent from the Great Erwinian Pendulum of Hypnosis which is enchanting all Ubi HQ, my initiative was still lowered by -20 or so.

That is very true, often random, irrelevant things got tons of upvotes, while meaningful comments were unnoticed and that's why Galaad's spamming doesn't bother me, it's not his foult that this comment section was designed that way

Terrible excuse. Next you're going to say that it's not his fault that he acts his way? He calls the atmosphere of the blog rotten, while it is him who made it so. He should be mature enough not to act like this, rather than complain about something that he's doing the most himself.

His whole criticism of the blog to me feels more like a reflection of his personal grudges, imo. Should it not be Ubi that created such a blog during the development, but NWC for example, it would be widely praised, even sickeningly so. Not that it changes anything, though.
