What I've always wanted but there never was

When you were just a small child and played for the first time on heroes 1-2-3 felt more fantastic, now all other heroes games are lacking that "thing" that captured the minds of the players, and here write down what you wanted but there never was:

More lore and fantasy, more feeling of the game rather than boring walk around map / fight random fights / pursue goal. Of course campaigns are somehow better than random scenarios but something still feels too random and lore too simple and boring.

Nowadays games are too plain & simple that in fact if it wasn't for the new high-end technology to create great graphics no one would even play any.

I start with this:

What I've always wanted but there never was, is 3 stage castle siege fight:

First you fight along walls and outer towers defending your castle against the enemy or besiege the walls if you're the attacker.

Second part of the fight you have to defend inside the castle dungeons, inner towers and other main structures from all sides the enemies come, strategically put traps and defensive augmentations all over or find your way trough (more mini fights rather than one big fight) if you're the attacker.

Third and final part, fight in the castle throne room in the main hall of your castle or conquer the other king if you're the attacker.

I've had a similar idea once...

and I think it should exist, but just in campaigns etc. or if placed especially by the map editor- otherwise siege battles would just drag and drag on...

What I always wanted ???
Enough time to play , so I can fall in love with the new game as well.
I think this is a bit part of the problem nowadays. Maybe if I would play H5 as much as H3, I'd love it...

Anyway, what I always wanted was weather. It can give you a nice feel - I'm not sure if we will have it. It would be nice to have rain, with lightning and snowfall (even you can't see the clouds)

Well, too be perfectly honest, I think that one of the strengths of Heroes III is it's simplicity. The UI is very simple in use, the rules of the game are simple, yet it's the strategic deepness and the overall atmosphere that make the game shine. I think that adding 3D made the franchise a tad more complicated. Still, I think that even with H5 (which I treat as inferior to H3) and far worse H6 we still get one of the best fantasy TBS games on the market. Lately I'm looking for some alternatives, but after trying many games I don't find anything at least half as engaging as this franchise. Hey, but that's just me

It can work, but its not fair. It gives much more advantage to the defender. You'll lose huge part of your army in this attack.

i liked your idea, both in terms of originallity and freshness. but i think 3 will be too much, or the game should grant some bonus to attacker side, since 3 times battle and traps included will be much more harder than our current classic town siege battles.

but the feels it will give will be glorius!

i like your courage. lets be open minded about series and try to invent new, fresh ideas!

I'd say keep it to one battlefield, but expand the battlefield to have two walls (creatures start between the inner and outer walls) and at least 4-6 towers, so to win you have to destroy all creatures and towers, and breach both walls.

More lore and fantasy...

If there's anything this series needs, it's less lore. To hell with all the lore! "In Ashan, Phoenixes are blue." "In Ashan, there's no swamp town." "In Ashan, there's no Sulfur." "In Ashan, Vampires don't say BLEH." Etc. etc. etc. All this lore nonsense just adds limitations and puts constraints on what can be done, and what positive effect does it have on final product? As good as zero!

That's an issue of badly written lore, not too much (or too little) lore.

Well I don't think it's about the quality of the writing, so I wouldn't say it's because it's badly written lore. You could say it's because it's bad lore. Or maybe it's because they mistook lore for law. But my point is, why do we have to have something that's essentially not gameplay relevant to influence gameplay decisions?

I don't hold a grudge against them for having only one type of rare resource in H6, it was a design decision, it was made for some specific reasons (which I didn't agree with, but that's not the point here). However, once they realize that this didn't work well (because it made game less good, or just because fans didn't like it), don't come pull such nonsense as "we can't put sulfur back in because it says in the lore that people don't know how to use it at this time". It's not like it's some law of nature that can't be changed, if you want to undo the decision you made for H6, just undo it. And that's why I want less lore, or at least less micro-detailed-managing-lore.

That was a joke, you know. It was never meant to be taken seriously.
