Poll Question:
Hero races

Should heroes be limited to one race only that corresponds their faction?

or maybe should be a secondary race for every faction
(ex. Minotaurs for Dungeon, Djinns for Academy)?

or even multiple races ?

That's a tricky question personaly, I think most heroes should be humanoids riding something, but there should be 3-4 heroes per faction with unique models, like angel for Haven, rakshasa for Academy, etc etc...

If the faction can pull it off, multiple races. Though with some factions that's harder then others.

Multiple races, like in the h3-h4! We had plenty of heroes races back then

Dungeon: Minotaurs, Troglodytes(h3), Efreets(h4), Orcs(h4), Humans, Dragons (Mutare )
Necropolis: Liches, Vampires, Zombies, Humans
Inferno: Efreets, Devils, Imps (Ignatius if he counts ), Undefined demons and humans
Rampart: Dwarves, Elves and Humans
Tower/Academy: Humans, Genies, Halflings(h4), Dwarves(h4)
Conflux: All elementals , humans and one dwarf
Fortress: Gnolls, Lizardmen and Humans
Stronghold: Orcs, Goblins, Ogres, Humans

It's boring to have only one race as heroes and it also feels weird and makes other races/creatures look inferior, H5 was awful at heroes, H6 changed it somehow, but still not enough

Yeah i agree multiple races is better like in H3 + H4. Just having one race per faction is boring.

Seeing factions with all heroes being of the same race is boring (except Haven, maybe).

this does not make sense for all factions, but the current approach of only one race does not make sense everywhere either
basically it's just about striking a balance and using common sense lol

the Dungeon should have some minotaurs as tavern heroes, the Academy should have some genies, the Stronghold should have orcs, the Sanctuary should have some lizardmen,
and there should be a few odd ones out, like Maximus for Haven and Yog for Stronghold who were cool

H6 insisted on mostly having humans only everywhere except the campaigns, and it felt racist, forced and really sucked
like come on, what was with all the random humans leading the orcs and nagas, wtf

i don't give a flying **** about needing to have unique character models for heroes of other races, just use the exact same humanoid model for everyone like in H3-5, the model is just a symbol and it's fine

I wouldn't consider succubus as appart from vanilla demon when taking inferno heroes to be honest.

Personally, I'm a bit divided here. To be honest I don't have a problem with having 1 race for each race to represent the heroes and even prefer it that way, as they're supposed to be the ones forming the "society" there. Most of the creatures on each faction not belonging to the main race are either monsters or affiliates. For example, I think minotaur heroes made some sense pre-ashan, but here I don't like that idea so much.

And stuff like a Cyclops as hero... like... for real?

I voted for "1 race" I wouldn't be mad if we get a couple of mixed heroes here and there, but overal I like that way, specially since some cases won't fith with the models.

Haven: Humans on horses only. No need for anything else, although I guess Seraphs could be heroes.

Inferno: Giant demon lords on foot and humanoid demon cultists on nightmares. Also Succubi? Efreet? There could just be so many different variations here, I feel like Inferno should have the most different models.

Dungeon: Elves, Minotaurs, all mounted on lizards.

Stronghold: Orcs mounted on oxen, goblins on big flying birds (like what the harpies are made from), and maybe humans on horses.

Academy: Humans on elephants or camels, genies flying.

Sylvan: Elves on unicorns (since unicorns aren't units this time). No other races make sense as heroes.

In the event of Fortress returning, dwarves on mammoth and maybe giants on foot.

Please bring back race specific mounts.

We did? I haven't actually played H6 - I'm watching a Let's Play playthrough on Youtube and haven't gotten to the Stronghold campaign. Image link or a name to look up?

Yes, we have Acamas, the Bloody* Cyclops.

*only if you chose blood path in Stronghold campaing (he is hero in DoC too where he's riding Oliphant)

As for Heroes in HoMM7 I chose multiply races. I would like to see:

1. Haven: well... Humans and 2-3 Angels, who else? Demons? Maybe Maximus too (Orc)
2. Academy: Wizards, Djinns and maybe 1 Golem or Titan (they are constructs, yes, but who knows if they didn't developed some consciousness after many years, especially titans with bound souls)
3. Necropolis: Vampire Lords, 1-2 Ghosts, Bone Dragon (see titan example above and Clash of Heroes' Talon)
4. Stronghold: Orcs, Goblins/Gnolls, 1-2 Harpy and maybe 1 Cyclops
5. Sylvan: Elves, maybe 1 Treant (I know it would be illogical, but on the other hand it would be funny to see Treant riding Unicorn )
6. Dungeon: Elves again , 1-2 Faceless, Minotaurs (Calibar from H6 and Darkstorm from H3-4)
7. Inferno: Succubi and Incubi, possesed/corrupted Humans/Elves and Djinns (Demons can't survive on Ashan without host, excluding Eclipse times).

They can have as many as the devs can develop properly. I personally miss my djinn heroes.
Given that we now have magic and might heroes a greater number of heroes per faction is needed so there is plenty of room.

But you can't just have two symbols standing there, talking to each other. Not in this day and age.
No, they need an excessive amount of detail to make them stand out, so we can use them for cutscenes.

Moar races makes moar interesting fantasy! Sylvan could have a Dryad easily as a Hero, and Rakshashas for Academy.
